मेरै हीअरै रतनु नामु हरि बसिआ गुरि हाथु धरिओ मेरै माथा ॥
Merai hī▫arai raṯan nām har basi▫ā gur hāth ḏẖari▫o merai māthā.

ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਦੁਖ ਉਤਰੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਓ ਰਿਨੁ ਲਾਥਾ ॥੧॥
जनम जनम के किलबिख दुख उतरे गुरि नामु दीओ रिनु लाथा ॥१॥
Janam janam ke kilbikẖ ḏukẖ uṯre gur nām ḏī▫o rin lāthā. ||1||
The sins and pains of countless incarnations have been cast out. The Guru has blessed me with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and my debt has been paid off. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਭਜੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਭਿ ਅਰਥਾ ॥
मेरे मन भजु राम नामु सभि अरथा ॥
Mere man bẖaj rām nām sabẖ arthā.
O my mind, vibrate the Lord's Name, and all your affairs shall be resolved.
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
गुरि पूरै हरि नामु द्रिड़ाइआ बिनु नावै जीवनु बिरथा ॥ रहाउ ॥
Gur pūrai har nām driṛ▫ā▫i▫ā bin nāvai jīvan birthā. Rahā▫o.
The Perfect Guru has implanted the Lord's Name within me; without the Name, life is useless. ||Pause||
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੂੜ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਮੋਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਿਤ ਫਾਥਾ ॥
बिनु गुर मूड़ भए है मनमुख ते मोह माइआ नित फाथा ॥
Bin gur mūṛ bẖa▫e hai manmukẖ ṯe moh mā▫i▫ā niṯ fāthā.
Without the Guru, the self-willed manmukhs are foolish and ignorant; they are forever entangled in emotional attachment to Maya.
ਤਿਨ ਸਾਧੂ ਚਰਣ ਨ ਸੇਵੇ ਕਬਹੂ ਤਿਨ ਸਭੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਅਕਾਥਾ ॥੨॥
तिन साधू चरण न सेवे कबहू तिन सभु जनमु अकाथा ॥२॥
Ŧin sāḏẖū cẖaraṇ na seve kabhū ṯin sabẖ janam akāthā. ||2||
They never serve the feet of the Holy; their lives are totally useless. ||2||
ਜਿਨ ਸਾਧੂ ਚਰਣ ਸਾਧ ਪਗ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਿਨ ਸਫਲਿਓ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਨਾਥਾ ॥
जिन साधू चरण साध पग सेवे तिन सफलिओ जनमु सनाथा ॥
Jin sāḏẖū cẖaraṇ sāḏẖ pag seve ṯin safli▫o janam sanāthā.
Those who serve at the feet of the Holy, the feet of the Holy, their lives are made fruitful, and they belong to the Lord.
ਮੋ ਕਉ ਕੀਜੈ ਦਾਸੁ ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸਨ ਕੋ ਹਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰਿ ਜਗੰਨਾਥਾ ॥੩॥
मो कउ कीजै दासु दास दासन को हरि दइआ धारि जगंनाथा ॥३॥
Mo ka▫o kījai ḏās ḏās ḏāsan ko har ḏa▫i▫ā ḏẖār jagannāthā. ||3||
Make me the slave of the slave of the slaves of the Lord; bless me with Your Mercy, O Lord of the Universe. ||3||
ਹਮ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਗਿਆਨਹੀਨ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਿਉ ਚਾਲਹ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪੰਥਾ ॥
हम अंधुले गिआनहीन अगिआनी किउ चालह मारगि पंथा ॥
Ham anḏẖule gi▫ānhīn agi▫ānī ki▫o cẖālah mārag panthā.
I am blind, ignorant and totally without wisdom; how can I walk on the Path?
ਹਮ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਕਉ ਗੁਰ ਅੰਚਲੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਚਲਹ ਮਿਲੰਥਾ ॥੪॥੧॥
हम अंधुले कउ गुर अंचलु दीजै जन नानक चलह मिलंथा ॥४॥१॥
Ham anḏẖule ka▫o gur ancẖal ḏījai jan Nānak cẖalah milanthā. ||4||1||
I am blind - O Guru, please let me grasp the hem of Your robe, so that servant Nanak may walk in harmony with You. ||4||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਹੀਰਾ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਆਪਦਾ ਹੱਥ ਟੇਕਿਆ ਹੈ। ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਤੇ ਦੁਖਡੇ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਬਖਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਰਜਾ ਲੱਥ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਹੀਅਰੈ = ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ। ਗੁਰਿ = ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ। ਮੇਰੈ ਮਾਥਾ = ਮੇਰੈ ਮਾਥੈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ। ਕਿਲਬਿਖ = ਪਾਪ। ਰਿਨੁ = ਕਰਜ਼ਾ, ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਭਾਰ।੧।
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦੋਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਰੱਖਿਆ, ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਰਤਨ (ਵਰਗਾ ਕੀਮਤੀ) ਨਾਮ ਆ ਵੱਸਿਆ। (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਰੋਂ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦਾ) ਕਰਜ਼ਾ ਉਤਰ ਗਿਆ।੧।
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਭਜੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਭਿ ਅਰਥਾ ॥ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੜੀਏ! ਤੂੰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਰਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਗੇ। ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪੱਕਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੈ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
ਮਨ = ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਸਭਿ = ਸਾਰੇ। ਅਰਥਾ = ਪਦਾਰਥ। ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ = ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਬਿਰਥਾ = ਵਿਅਰਥ।ਰਹਾਉ।
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! (ਸਦਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ, (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ (ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ)। (ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹੁ) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਹੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪੱਕਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਤੇ, ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਚਲੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।ਰਹਾਉ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੂੜ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਮੋਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਿਤ ਫਾਥਾ ॥ ਤਿਨ ਸਾਧੂ ਚਰਣ ਨ ਸੇਵੇ ਕਬਹੂ ਤਿਨ ਸਭੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਅਕਾਥਾ ॥੨॥
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕੂਲ ਮੂਰਖ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਧਨ-ਦੌਲਤ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿੰਚ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਲਈ ਘੱਸ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਮਰਾਉਂਦੇ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਜੀਵਨ।
ਮੂੜ = ਮੂਰਖ। ਮਨਮੁਖ = ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ। ਤੇ = ਉਹ {ਬਹੁ-ਵਚਨ}। ਸਾਧੂ = ਗੁਰੂ। ਅਕਥਾ = ਨਿਸਫਲ, ਅਕਾਰਥ।੨।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ (ਦੀ ਸਰਨ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੂਰਖ ਹੋਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਿਆ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੨।
ਜਿਨ ਸਾਧੂ ਚਰਣ ਸਾਧ ਪਗ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਿਨ ਸਫਲਿਓ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਨਾਥਾ ॥ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਕੀਜੈ ਦਾਸੁ ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸਨ ਕੋ ਹਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰਿ ਜਗੰਨਾਥਾ ॥੩॥
ਜੋ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ, ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਟਹਿਲ ਕਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ; ਫਲਦਾਇਕ ਹੈ ਉਲ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਤਰਸ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਦੇ ਗੋਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਗੋਲੇ ਦਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਬਣਾ ਦੇ।
ਪਗ = ਪੈਰ, ਚਰਨ। ਸਫਲਿਓ = ਕਾਮਯਾਬ। ਸਨਾਥਾ = ਖਸਮ ਵਾਲੇ। ਮੋ ਕਉ = ਮੈਨੂੰ। ਕਉ = ਨੂੰ। ਕੀਜੈ = ਬਣਾ ਲੈ। ਜਗੰਨਾਥਾ = ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਨਾਥ!।੩।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਖਸਮ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਨਾਥ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਬਣਾ ਲੈ।੩।
ਹਮ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਗਿਆਨਹੀਨ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਿਉ ਚਾਲਹ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪੰਥਾ ॥ ਹਮ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਕਉ ਗੁਰ ਅੰਚਲੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਚਲਹ ਮਿਲੰਥਾ ॥੪॥੧॥
ਮੈਂ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ, ਬੇਸਮਝ ਅਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਤੋਂ ਸੰਖਣਾ ਹਾਂ। ਤੇਰੇ ਰਾਹੇ ਅਤੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਟੁਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ? ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਮੈਂ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਪਕੜਾ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਗੋਲਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਇਕ ਸੁਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਟੁਰੇ।
ਕਿਉ = ਕਿਵੇਂ? ਚਾਲਹ = ਅਸੀਂ ਚੱਲੀਏ। ਮਾਰਗਿ = ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ। ਪੰਥਾ = ਪੰਥਿ, ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ। ਗੁਰ = ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਅੰਚਲੁ = ਪੱਲਾ। ਮਿਲੰਥਾ = ਮਿਲ ਕੇ।੪।
ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਅਸੀਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ, ਅਸੀਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੇ ਹਾਂ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਅਸੀਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ। ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਸਾਨੂੰ ਅੰਨਿ੍ਹਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜਾ, ਤਾਂ ਕਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਪੱਲੇ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਸਕੀਏ।੪।੧।
