ਧੂਰਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਾਇ ॥
धूरि संतन की मसतकि लाइ ॥
Ḏẖūr sanṯan kī masṯak lā▫e.
Apply the dust of the feet of the Saints to your forehead,
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਲੁ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
जनम जनम की दुरमति मलु जाइ ॥१॥
Janam janam kī ḏurmaṯ mal jā▫e. ||1||
and the filthy evil-mindedness of countless incarnations will be washed off. ||1||
ਜਿਸੁ ਭੇਟਤ ਮਿਟੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
जिसु भेटत मिटै अभिमानु ॥
Jis bẖetaṯ mitai abẖimān.
Meeting Him, egotistical pride is eradicated,
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਸਭੁ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਵੈ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਗਵਾਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
पारब्रहमु सभु नदरी आवै करि किरपा पूरन भगवान ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Pārbarahm sabẖ naḏrī āvai kar kirpā pūran bẖagvān. ||1|| rahā▫o.
and you will come to see the Supreme Lord God in all. The Perfect Lord God has showered His Mercy. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥
गुर की कीरति जपीऐ हरि नाउ ॥
Gur kī kīraṯ japī▫ai har nā▫o.
This is the Guru's Praise, to chant the Name of the Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥
गुर की भगति सदा गुण गाउ ॥
Gur kī bẖagaṯ saḏā guṇ gā▫o.
This is devotion to the Guru, to sing forever the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨੁ ॥
गुर की सुरति निकटि करि जानु ॥
Gur kī suraṯ nikat kar jān.
This is contemplation upon the Guru, to know that the Lord is close at hand.
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੨॥
गुर का सबदु सति करि मानु ॥२॥
Gur kā sabaḏ saṯ kar mān. ||2||
Accept the Word of the Guru's Shabad as Truth. ||2||
ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਸਮਸਰਿ ਸੁਖ ਦੂਖ ॥
गुर बचनी समसरि सुख दूख ॥
Gur bacẖnī samsar sukẖ ḏūkẖ.
Through the Word of the Guru's Teachings, look upon pleasure and pain as one and the same.
ਕਦੇ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਭੂਖ ॥
कदे न बिआपै त्रिसना भूख ॥
Kaḏe na bi▫āpai ṯarisnā bẖūkẖ.
Hunger and thirst shall never afflict you.
ਮਨਿ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਗੁਰ ਰਾਜੇ ॥
मनि संतोखु सबदि गुर राजे ॥
Man sanṯokẖ sabaḏ gur rāje.
The mind becomes content and satisfied through the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਜਪਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ਪੜਦੇ ਸਭਿ ਕਾਜੇ ॥੩॥
जपि गोबिंदु पड़दे सभि काजे ॥३॥
Jap gobinḏ paṛ▫ḏe sabẖ kāje. ||3||
Meditate on the Lord of the Universe, and He will cover all your faults. ||3||
ਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ॥
गुरु परमेसरु गुरु गोविंदु ॥
Gur parmesar gur govinḏ.
The Guru is the Supreme Lord God; the Guru is the Lord of the Universe.
ਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਦਇਆਲ ਬਖਸਿੰਦੁ ॥
गुरु दाता दइआल बखसिंदु ॥
Gur ḏāṯā ḏa▫i▫āl bakẖsinḏ.
The Guru is the Great Giver, merciful and forgiving.
ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨੀ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
गुर चरनी जा का मनु लागा ॥
Gur cẖarnī jā kā man lāgā.
One whose mind is attached to the Guru's feet,
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਤਿਸੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਾਗਾ ॥੪॥੩੬॥੪੭॥
नानक दास तिसु पूरन भागा ॥४॥३६॥४७॥

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਕਰ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਧਰਿ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥

ਆਪਣੇ ਰਿਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਬਿਰਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਕੰਵਲ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜ।
ਹਿਰਦੈ = ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ। ਧਰਿ = ਧਰ ਕੇ।
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਧਰ ਕੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ)।
ਧੂਰਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਾਇ ॥

ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਮਲ,
ਸੰਤ = ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਦੇ ਸਤਸੰਗੀ। ਮਸਤਕਿ = ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ।
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ) ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਲਾਇਆ ਕਰ,
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਲੁ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥

ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਖੋਟੀ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਦੀ ਮਲੀਣਤਾ ਧੋਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ।
ਦੁਰਮਤਿ = ਖੋਟੀ ਮਤਿ। ਜਾਇ = ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਖੋਟੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਜਿਸੁ ਭੇਟਤ ਮਿਟੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
जिसु भेटत मिटै अभिमानु ॥

ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਦੀ ਸਵੈ-ਹੰਗਤਾ ਨਵਿਰਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਸੁ ਭੇਟਤੁ = ਜਿਸ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ।
ਜਿਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ (ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਸਭੁ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਵੈ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਗਵਾਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਐਸੇ ਹਨ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਜੀ, ਪਰਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਦਿਸ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਕੀਰਤੀਮਾਨ ਮਾਲਕ ਬੰਦੇ ਉਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਹਿਮਤ ਨਿਛਾਵਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਓ।
ਸਭੁ = ਹਰ ਥਾਂ। ਭਗਵਾਨ = ਹੇ ਭਗਵਾਨ ॥੧॥
ਅਤੇ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਸਭ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਭਗਵਾਨ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ॥

ਇਹ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਸਤਤੀ ਕਿ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕੀਰਤਿ = ਸੋਭਾ। ਜਪੀਐ = ਜਪਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ-ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੋਭਾ (ਕਰਨੀ)।

ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਜਾਣ-ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਨਾ।

ਸਮਸਰਿ = ਬਰਾਬਰ, ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹੇ। ਬਚਨੀ = ਬਚਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ, ਬਚਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆ।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਸਾਰੇ) ਸੁਖ ਦੁਖ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਜਾਪਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਕਦੇ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਭੂਖ ॥

ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ = ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭੁੱਖ ਕਦੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਮਨਿ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਗੁਰ ਰਾਜੇ ॥

ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਮਨ) ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਸਭਿ = ਸਾਰੇ। ਕਾਜੇ = ਕੱਜੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪੜਦੇ ਕੱਜੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ) ॥੩॥

गुर चरनी जा का मनु लागा ॥
Gur cẖarnī jā kā man lāgā.
One whose mind is attached to the Guru's feet,
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਚਰਨੀ = ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ। ਜਾ ਕਾ = ਜਿਸ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਦਾ।
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਤਿਸੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਾਗਾ ॥੪॥੩੬॥੪੭॥
नानक दास तिसु पूरन भागा ॥४॥३६॥४७॥
Nānak ḏās ṯis pūran bẖāgā. ||4||36||47||
O slave Nanak, is blessed with perfect destiny. ||4||36||47||
