I am filthy and polluted, proud and egotistical; receiving the Word of the Shabad, my filth is taken away. || 1 || O Saints, the Gurmukhs are saved through the Naam, the Name of the Lord. The True Name abides deep within their hearts. The Creator Himself embellishes them. || 1 || Pause || Touching the philosopher’s stone, they themselves become the philosopher’s stone; the Dear Lord Himself blesses them with His Mercy. || 2 || Some wear religious robes, and wander around in pride; they lose their life in the gamble. || 3 || Some worship the Lord in devotion, night and day; day and night, they keep the Lord’s Name enshrined in their hearts. || 4 || Those who are imbued with Him night and day, are spontaneously intoxicated with Him; they intuitively conquer their ego. || 5 || Without the Fear of God, devotional worship is never performed; through the Love and the Fear of God, devotional worship is embellished. || 6 || The Shabad burns away emotional attachment to Maya, and then one contemplates the essence of spiritual wisdom. || 7 || The Creator Himself inspires us to act; He Himself blesses us with His treasure. || 8 || The limits of His virtues cannot be found; I sing His Praises and contemplate the Word of the Shabad. || 9 || I chant the Lord’s Name, and praise my Dear Lord; egotism is eradicated from within me. || 10 || The treasure of the Naam is obtained from the Guru; the treasures of the True Lord are inexhaustible. || 11 || He Himself is pleased with His devotees; by His Grace, He infuses His strength within them. || 12 || They always feel hunger for the True Name; they sing and contemplate the Shabad. || 13 || Soul, body and everything are His; it is so difficult to speak of, and contemplate Him. || 14 || Those humble beings who are attached to the Shabad are saved; they cross over the terrifying world-ocean. || 15 || Without the True Lord, no one can cross over; how rare are those who contemplate and understand this. || 16 || We obtain only that which is pre-ordained; receiving the Lord’s Shabad, we are embellished. || 17 || Imbued with the Shabad, the body becomes golden, and loves only the True Name. || 18 || The body is then filled to overflowing with Ambrosial Nectar, obtained by contemplating the Shabad. || 19 || Those who seek God, find Him; others burst and die from their own egotism. || 20 || The debaters waste away, while the servants serve, with love and affection for the Guru. || 21 || He alone is a Yogi, who contemplates the essence of spiritual wisdom, and conquers egotism and thirsty desire. || 22 || The True Guru, the Great Giver, is revealed to those upon whom You bestow Your Grace, O Lord. || 23 || Those who do not serve the True Guru, and who are attached to Maya, are drowned; they die in their own egotism. || 24 || As long as there is breath within you, so long you should serve the Lord; then, you will go and meet the Lord. || 25 || Night and day, she remains awake and aware, day and night; she is the darling bride of her Beloved Husband Lord. || 26 || I offer my body and mind in sacrifice to my Guru; I am a sacrifice to Him. || 27 || Attachment to Maya will end and go away; only by contemplating the Shabad will you be saved. || 28 || They are awake and aware, whom the Lord Himself awakens; so contemplate the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. || 29 || O Nanak, those who do not remember the Naam are dead. The devotees live in contemplative meditation. || 30 || 4 || 13 ||

ਹਮ ਕੁਚਲ ਕੁਚੀਲ ਅਤਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਬਦੇ ਮੈਲੁ ਉਤਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
हम कुचल कुचील अति अभिमानी मिलि सबदे मैलु उतारी ॥१॥
Ham kucẖal kucẖīl aṯ abẖimānī mil sabḏe mail uṯārī. ||1||
I am filthy and polluted, proud and egotistical; receiving the Word of the Shabad, my filth is taken away. ||1||
ਸੰਤਹੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੀ ॥
संतहु गुरमुखि नामि निसतारी ॥
Sanṯahu gurmukẖ nām nisṯārī.
O Saints, the Gurmukhs are saved through the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਸਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
सचा नामु वसिआ घट अंतरि करतै आपि सवारी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Sacẖā nām vasi▫ā gẖat anṯar karṯai āp savārī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
The True Name abides deep within their hearts. The Creator Himself embellishes them. ||1||Pause||
ਪਾਰਸ ਪਰਸੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਾਰਸੁ ਹੋਏ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਅਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
पारस परसे फिरि पारसु होए हरि जीउ अपणी किरपा धारी ॥२॥
Pāras parse fir pāras ho▫e har jī▫o apṇī kirpā ḏẖārī. ||2||
Touching the philosopher's stone, they themselves become the philosopher's stone; the Dear Lord Himself blesses them with His Mercy. ||2||
ਇਕਿ ਭੇਖ ਕਰਹਿ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ਤਿਨ ਜੂਐ ਬਾਜੀ ਹਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
इकि भेख करहि फिरहि अभिमानी तिन जूऐ बाजी हारी ॥३॥
Ik bẖekẖ karahi firėh abẖimānī ṯin jū▫ai bājī hārī. ||3||
Some wear religious robes, and wander around in pride; they lose their life in the gamble. ||3||
ਇਕਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੀ ॥੪॥
इकि अनदिनु भगति करहि दिनु राती राम नामु उरि धारी ॥४॥
Ik an▫ḏin bẖagaṯ karahi ḏin rāṯī rām nām ur ḏẖārī. ||4||
Some worship the Lord in devotion, night and day; day and night, they keep the Lord's Name enshrined in their hearts. ||4||
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੇ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਾਤੇ ਸਹਜੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀ ॥੫॥
अनदिनु राते सहजे माते सहजे हउमै मारी ॥५॥
An▫ḏin rāṯe sėhje māṯe sėhje ha▫umai mārī. ||5||
Those who are imbued with Him night and day, are spontaneously intoxicated with Him; they intuitively conquer their ego. ||5||
ਭੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਕਬ ਹੀ ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥੬॥
भै बिनु भगति न होई कब ही भै भाइ भगति सवारी ॥६॥
Bẖai bin bẖagaṯ na ho▫ī kab hī bẖai bẖā▫e bẖagaṯ savārī. ||6||
Without the Fear of God, devotional worship is never performed; through the Love and the Fear of God, devotional worship is embellished. ||6||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਇਆ ਗਿਆਨਿ ਤਤਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੭॥
माइआ मोहु सबदि जलाइआ गिआनि तति बीचारी ॥७॥
Mā▫i▫ā moh sabaḏ jalā▫i▫ā gi▫ān ṯaṯ bīcẖārī. ||7||
The Shabad burns away emotional attachment to Maya, and then one contemplates the essence of spiritual wisdom. ||7||
ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਭੰਡਾਰੀ ॥੮॥
आपे आपि कराए करता आपे बखसि भंडारी ॥८॥
Āpe āp karā▫e karṯā āpe bakẖas bẖandārī. ||8||
The Creator Himself inspires us to act; He Himself blesses us with His treasure. ||8||
ਤਿਸ ਕਿਆ ਗੁਣਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਉ ਗਾਵਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੯॥
तिस किआ गुणा का अंतु न पाइआ हउ गावा सबदि वीचारी ॥९॥
Ŧis ki▫ā guṇā kā anṯ na pā▫i▫ā ha▫o gāvā sabaḏ vīcẖārī. ||9||
The limits of His virtues cannot be found; I sing His Praises and contemplate the Word of the Shabad. ||9||
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਜਪੀ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ॥੧੦॥
हरि जीउ जपी हरि जीउ सालाही विचहु आपु निवारी ॥१०॥
Har jī▫o japī har jī▫o sālāhī vicẖahu āp nivārī. ||10||
I chant the Lord's Name, and praise my Dear Lord; egotism is eradicated from within me. ||10||
ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਖੁਟ ਸਚੇ ਭੰਡਾਰੀ ॥੧੧॥
नामु पदारथु गुर ते पाइआ अखुट सचे भंडारी ॥११॥
Nām paḏārath gur ṯe pā▫i▫ā akẖut sacẖe bẖandārī. ||11||
The treasure of the Naam is obtained from the Guru; the treasures of the True Lord are inexhaustible. ||11||
ਅਪਣਿਆ ਭਗਤਾ ਨੋ ਆਪੇ ਤੁਠਾ ਅਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਲ ਧਾਰੀ ॥੧੨॥
अपणिआ भगता नो आपे तुठा अपणी किरपा करि कल धारी ॥१२॥
Apṇi▫ā bẖagṯā no āpe ṯuṯẖā apṇī kirpā kar kal ḏẖārī. ||12||
He Himself is pleased with His devotees; by His Grace, He infuses His strength within them. ||12||
ਤਿਨ ਸਾਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਸਦਾ ਭੁਖ ਲਾਗੀ ਗਾਵਨਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੧੩॥
तिन साचे नाम की सदा भुख लागी गावनि सबदि वीचारी ॥१३॥
Ŧin sācẖe nām kī saḏā bẖukẖ lāgī gāvan sabaḏ vīcẖārī. ||13||
They always feel hunger for the True Name; they sing and contemplate the Shabad. ||13||
ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਆਖਣੁ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੧੪॥
जीउ पिंडु सभु किछु है तिस का आखणु बिखमु बीचारी ॥१४॥
Jī▫o pind sabẖ kicẖẖ hai ṯis kā ākẖaṇ bikẖam bīcẖārī. ||14||
Soul, body and everything are His; it is so difficult to speak of, and contemplate Him. ||14||
ਸਬਦਿ ਲਗੇ ਸੇਈ ਜਨ ਨਿਸਤਰੇ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੀ ॥੧੫॥
सबदि लगे सेई जन निसतरे भउजलु पारि उतारी ॥१५॥
Sabaḏ lage se▫ī jan nisṯare bẖa▫ojal pār uṯārī. ||15||
Those humble beings who are attached to the Shabad are saved; they cross over the terrifying world-ocean. ||15||
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੋ ਪਾਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੧੬॥
बिनु हरि साचे को पारि न पावै बूझै को वीचारी ॥१६॥
Bin har sācẖe ko pār na pāvai būjẖai ko vīcẖārī. ||16||
Without the True Lord, no one can cross over; how rare are those who contemplate and understand this. ||16||
ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੋਈ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥੧੭॥
जो धुरि लिखिआ सोई पाइआ मिलि हरि सबदि सवारी ॥१७॥
Jo ḏẖur likẖi▫ā so▫ī pā▫i▫ā mil har sabaḏ savārī. ||17||
We obtain only that which is pre-ordained; receiving the Lord's Shabad, we are embellished. ||17||
ਕਾਇਆ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਰਾਤੀ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥੧੮॥
काइआ कंचनु सबदे राती साचै नाइ पिआरी ॥१८॥
Kā▫i▫ā kancẖan sabḏe rāṯī sācẖai nā▫e pi▫ārī. ||18||
Imbued with the Shabad, the body becomes golden, and loves only the True Name. ||18||
ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਰਹੀ ਭਰਪੂਰੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੧੯॥
काइआ अम्रिति रही भरपूरे पाईऐ सबदि वीचारी ॥१९॥
Kā▫i▫ā amriṯ rahī bẖarpūre pā▫ī▫ai sabaḏ vīcẖārī. ||19||
The body is then filled to overflowing with Ambrosial Nectar, obtained by contemplating the Shabad. ||19||
ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਖੋਜਹਿ ਸੇਈ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਹੋਰਿ ਫੂਟਿ ਮੂਏ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥੨੦॥
जो प्रभु खोजहि सेई पावहि होरि फूटि मूए अहंकारी ॥२०॥
Jo parabẖ kẖojėh se▫ī pāvahi hor fūt mū▫e ahaʼnkārī. ||20||
Those who seek God, find Him; others burst and die from their own egotism. ||20||
ਬਾਦੀ ਬਿਨਸਹਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥੨੧॥
बादी बिनसहि सेवक सेवहि गुर कै हेति पिआरी ॥२१॥
Bāḏī binsahi sevak sevėh gur kai heṯ pi▫ārī. ||21||
The debaters waste away, while the servants serve, with love and affection for the Guru. ||21||
ਸੋ ਜੋਗੀ ਤਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਮਾਰੀ ॥੨੨॥
सो जोगी ततु गिआनु बीचारे हउमै त्रिसना मारी ॥२२॥
So jogī ṯaṯ gi▫ān bīcẖāre ha▫umai ṯarisnā mārī. ||22||
He alone is a Yogi, who contemplates the essence of spiritual wisdom, and conquers egotism and thirsty desire. ||22||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਤਿਨੈ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥੨੩॥
सतिगुरु दाता तिनै पछाता जिस नो क्रिपा तुमारी ॥२३॥
Saṯgur ḏāṯā ṯinai pacẖẖāṯā jis no kirpā ṯumārī. ||23||
The True Guru, the Great Giver, is revealed to those upon whom You bestow Your Grace, O Lord. ||23||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਲਾਗੇ ਡੂਬਿ ਮੂਏ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥੨੪॥
सतिगुरु न सेवहि माइआ लागे डूबि मूए अहंकारी ॥२४॥
Saṯgur na sevėh mā▫i▫ā lāge dūb mū▫e ahaʼnkārī. ||24||
Those who do not serve the True Guru, and who are attached to Maya, are drowned; they die in their own egotism. ||24||
ਜਿਚਰੁ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਾਸੁ ਤਿਚਰੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਚੈ ਜਾਇ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਰਾਮ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥੨੫॥
जिचरु अंदरि सासु तिचरु सेवा कीचै जाइ मिलीऐ राम मुरारी ॥२५॥
Jicẖar anḏar sās ṯicẖar sevā kīcẖai jā▫e milī▫ai rām murārī. ||25||
As long as there is breath within you, so long you should serve the Lord; then, you will go and meet the Lord. ||25||
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗਤ ਰਹੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਅਪਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥੨੬॥
अनदिनु जागत रहै दिनु राती अपने प्रिअ प्रीति पिआरी ॥२६॥
An▫ḏin jāgaṯ rahai ḏin rāṯī apne pari▫a parīṯ pi▫ārī. ||26||
Night and day, she remains awake and aware, day and night; she is the darling bride of her Beloved Husband Lord. ||26||
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਵਾਰੀ ਵਾਰਿ ਘੁਮਾਈ ਅਪਨੇ ਗੁਰ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ॥੨੭॥
तनु मनु वारी वारि घुमाई अपने गुर विटहु बलिहारी ॥२७॥
Ŧan man vārī vār gẖumā▫ī apne gur vitahu balihārī. ||27||
I offer my body and mind in sacrifice to my Guru; I am a sacrifice to Him. ||27||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਇਗਾ ਉਬਰੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੨੮॥
माइआ मोहु बिनसि जाइगा उबरे सबदि वीचारी ॥२८॥
Mā▫i▫ā moh binas jā▫igā ubre sabaḏ vīcẖārī. ||28||
Attachment to Maya will end and go away; only by contemplating the Shabad will you be saved. ||28||
ਆਪਿ ਜਗਾਏ ਸੇਈ ਜਾਗੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੨੯॥
आपि जगाए सेई जागे गुर कै सबदि वीचारी ॥२९॥
Āp jagā▫e se▫ī jāge gur kai sabaḏ vīcẖārī. ||29||
They are awake and aware, whom the Lord Himself awakens; so contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||29||
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇਈ ਮੂਏ ਜਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਭਗਤ ਜੀਵੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੩੦॥੪॥੧੩॥
नानक सेई मूए जि नामु न चेतहि भगत जीवे वीचारी ॥३०॥४॥१३॥
Nānak se▫ī mū▫e jė nām na cẖīṯėh bẖagaṯ jīve vīcẖārī. ||30||4||13||
O Nanak, those who do not remember the Naam are dead. The devotees live in contemplative meditation. ||30||4||13||

ਮੈਂ, ਗੰਦਾ ਮਲੀਨ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮ ਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਹਾਂ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਪਾ ਕੇ, ਮੇਰੀ ਮੈਲ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
ਹਮ = ਅਸੀਂ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਜੀਵ। ਕੁਚਲ = ਕੁਚੱਲਣੇ, ਕੋਝੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਚਾਲ ਵਾਲੇ। ਕੁਚੀਲ = ਗੰਦੇ। ਮਿਲਿ = ਮਿਲ ਕੇ। ਸਬਦੇ = ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਅਸੀਂ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ-ਜੀਵ (ਆਮ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ) ਕੁਚੱਲਣੇ ਗੰਦੇ ਆਚਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਹੋਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ। (ਕਿਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਨੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਉਤਾਰੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸੰਤਹੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੀ ॥

ਹੇ ਸਾਧੂਓ! ਗੁਰੂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਾਰਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੰਤਹੁ = ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ = ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਿਹਾਂ। ਨਾਮਿ = ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ। ਨਿਸਤਾਰੀ = ਪਾਰ-ਉਤਾਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ-ਉਤਾਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
The True Name abides deep within their hearts. The Creator Himself embellishes them. ||1||Pause||
ਸੱਚਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਸ਼ੋਭਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਓ।
ਸਚਾ = ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ। ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ = ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ। ਕਰਤੈ = ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ। ਸਵਾਰੀ = ਪੈਜ ਰੱਖ ਲਈ ॥੧॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਸਮਝੋ) ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਰੱਖ ਲਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਪਾਰਸ ਪਰਸੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਾਰਸੁ ਹੋਏ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਅਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
Touching the philosopher's stone, they themselves become the philosopher's stone; the Dear Lord Himself blesses them with His Mercy. ||2||
ਰਸਾਇਣ ਨਾਲ ਛੂਹ ਕੇ, ਉਹ ਖੁਦ ਓੜਕ ਨੂੰ ਰਸਾਇਣ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਪੂਜਯ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਹਿਮਤ ਧਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪਾਰਸ = ਲੋਹੇ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਨਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਪੱਥਰੀ, ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਮਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਰਸ। ਪਰਸੇ = ਪਰਸਿ, ਛੁਹ ਕੇ ॥੨॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ-ਪਾਰਸ ਨੂੰ ਛੁਹ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਭੀ ਪਾਰਸ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਇਕਿ ਭੇਖ ਕਰਹਿ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ਤਿਨ ਜੂਐ ਬਾਜੀ ਹਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
Some wear religious robes, and wander around in pride; they lose their life in the gamble. ||3||
ਕਈ ਸੰਪਰਦਾਈ ਲਿਬਾਸ ਪਹਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਖੇਡ ਨੂੰ ਜੂਏ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਾਰ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਇਕਿ = {ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਇਕ' ਤੋਂ ਬਹੁ-ਵਚਨ}। ਤਿਨ = ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ। ਜੂਐ = ਜੂਏ ਵਿਚ ॥੩॥
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਜਿਹੜੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੀਵ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਬਾਣਾ ਪਾਈ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਭੇਖ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਹੋਏ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਦੀ ਖੇਡ ਜੂਏ ਵਿਚ ਹਾਰ ਲਈ (ਜਾਣੋ) ॥੩॥
ਇਕਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੀ ॥੪॥
Some worship the Lord in devotion, night and day; day and night, they keep the Lord's Name enshrined in their hearts. ||4||
ਕਈ ਰੈਣ ਦਿਹੁੰ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਨਾਲ ਲਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ = ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼। ਉਰਿ = ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ॥੪॥
ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਕਈ ਬੰਦੇ ਐਸੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੇ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਾਤੇ ਸਹਜੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀ ॥੫॥
Those who are imbued with Him night and day, are spontaneously intoxicated with Him; they intuitively conquer their ego. ||5||
ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਉਹ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਮਤਵਾਲੇ ਵਿਚਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਖੈਨ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਵੈ-ਹੰਗਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਰਾਤੇ = ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ। ਸਹਜੇ = ਸਹਿਜ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ। ਮਾਤੇ = ਮਸਤ ॥੫॥
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੫॥
ਭੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਕਬ ਹੀ ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥੬॥
Without the Fear of God, devotional worship is never performed; through the Love and the Fear of God, devotional worship is embellished. ||6||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਮਈ ਸੇਵਾ, ਕਦਾਚਿਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਡਰ ਵਾਲੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਉਪਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਚਾਰ ਚੰਨ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਭੈ ਬਿਨੁ = ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਰੱਖਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ। ਕਬ ਹੀ = ਕਦੇ ਭੀ। ਭੈ = ਡਰ ਵਿਚ। ਭਾਇ = ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ॥੬॥
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਡਰ-ਅਦਬ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ। ਡਰ-ਅਦਬ, ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਅਤੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਬਣਾ ਲਈ ॥੬॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਇਆ ਗਿਆਨਿ ਤਤਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੭॥
The Shabad burns away emotional attachment to Maya, and then one contemplates the essence of spiritual wisdom. ||7||
ਸਾਈਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਲਗਨ ਸੜ ਬਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਦੀ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਸੋਚਦਾ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਬਦਿ = ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ। ਗਿਆਨਿ = ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਨਾਲ। ਤਤਿ = ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮੂਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ। ਬੀਚਾਰੀ = ਵਿਚਾਰਵਾਨ ॥੭॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਵਿਚਾਰਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਗਏ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਸਾੜ ਲਿਆ ॥੭॥
ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਭੰਡਾਰੀ ॥੮॥
The Creator Himself inspires us to act; He Himself blesses us with His treasure. ||8||
ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਖੁਦ ਬੰਦੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਵਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਖਜਾਨਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ = ਆਪ ਹੀ। ਕਰਤਾ = ਕਰਤਾਰ। ਬਖਸਿ = ਬਖਸੇ, ਬਖ਼ਸਦਾ ਹੈ। ਭੰਡਾਰੀ = ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ॥੮॥
ਪਰ ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਆਪਣੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
ਤਿਸ ਕਿਆ ਗੁਣਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਉ ਗਾਵਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੯॥
The limits of His virtues cannot be found; I sing His Praises and contemplate the Word of the Shabad. ||9||
ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਨੇਕੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਮੈਂ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ। ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਚਿੰਤਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਤਿਸ ਕਿਆ ਗੁਣਾ ਕਾ = ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ {ਸੰਬੰਧਕ 'ਕਿਆ' ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਤਿਸੁ' ਦਾ ੁ ਉੱਡ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ}। ਹਉ = ਮੈਂ। ਗਾਵਾ = ਗਾਵਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੯॥
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ। (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ) ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ) ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੯॥
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਜਪੀ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ॥੧੦॥
I chant the Lord's Name, and praise my Dear Lord; egotism is eradicated from within me. ||10||
ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹੰਗਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਟ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਪੂਜਯ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਲਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਜਪੀ = ਜਪੀਂ, ਮੈਂ ਜਪਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਸਾਲਾਹੀ = ਸਾਲਾਹੀਂ, ਮੈਂ ਸਲਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਆਪੁ = ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ॥੧੦॥
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ) ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧੦॥
ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਖੁਟ ਸਚੇ ਭੰਡਾਰੀ ॥੧੧॥
The treasure of the Naam is obtained from the Guru; the treasures of the True Lord are inexhaustible. ||11||
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਅਮੁੱਕ ਹਨ ਸੱਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਖਜ਼ਾਨੇ।
ਪਦਾਰਥੁ = ਕੀਮਤੀ ਵਸਤ। ਤੇ = ਤੋਂ, ਪਾਸੋਂ। ਅਖੁਟ = ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹ ਮੁੱਕਣ ਵਾਲੇ। ਸਚੇ = ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ॥੧੧॥
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਕਦੇ ਮੁੱਕਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੧॥
ਅਪਣਿਆ ਭਗਤਾ ਨੋ ਆਪੇ ਤੁਠਾ ਅਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਲ ਧਾਰੀ ॥੧੨॥
He Himself is pleased with His devotees; by His Grace, He infuses His strength within them. ||12||
ਮਾਲਕ ਖੁਦ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਉਪਰ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਹੈ। ਆਪਣੀ ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੱਤਿਆ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਸਥਾਪਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨੋ = ਨੂੰ। ਤੁਠਾ = ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕਰਿ = ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ। ਕਲ = ਸੱਤਾ। ਧਾਰੀ = ਟਿਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੨॥
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਦੀ) ਸੱਤਿਆ ਟਿਕਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੨॥
ਤਿਨ ਸਾਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਸਦਾ ਭੁਖ ਲਾਗੀ ਗਾਵਨਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੧੩॥
They always feel hunger for the True Name; they sing and contemplate the Shabad. ||13||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਭੁੱਖ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਤੇ ਸੋਚਦੇ ਬੀਚਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗਾਵਨਿ = ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਸਬਦਿ = ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ। ਵੀਚਾਰੀ = ਵਿਚਾਰਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ॥੧੩॥
(ਇਸ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਟਾ ਇਹ ਨਿਕਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਉਹਨਾਂ (ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ ਭੁੱਖ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉੱਚੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਬੰਦੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧੩॥
ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਆਖਣੁ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੧੪॥
Soul, body and everything are His; it is so difficult to speak of, and contemplate Him. ||14||
ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੜੀ ਅਤੇ ਦੇਹ ਸਮੂਹ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਲਕੀਅਤ ਹਨ, ਔਖਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਵਰਣਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ।
ਜੀਉ = ਜਿੰਦ। ਪਿੰਡੁ = ਸਰੀਰ। ਤਿਸ ਕਾ = ਉਸ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਦਾ {ਸੰਬੰਧਕ 'ਕਾ' ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਤਿਸੁ' ਦਾ ੁ ਉੱਡ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ}। ਬਿਖਮੁ = ਔਖਾ, ਕਠਨ। ਆਖਣੁ = ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਨਾ ॥੧੪॥
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ਾਂ ਦਾ) ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਨਾ ਤੇ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਨਾ (ਬਹੁਤ) ਔਖਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੪॥
ਸਬਦਿ ਲਗੇ ਸੇਈ ਜਨ ਨਿਸਤਰੇ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੀ ॥੧੫॥
Those humble beings who are attached to the Shabad are saved; they cross over the terrifying world-ocean. ||15||
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਨੂੰ ਤਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਬਦਿ = ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ। ਸੇਈ = ਉਹ (ਬੰਦੇ)। ਨਿਸਤਰੇ = ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਗਏ। ਭਉਜਲੁ = ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ॥੧੫॥
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਤਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧੫॥
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੋ ਪਾਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੧੬॥
Without the True Lord, no one can cross over; how rare are those who contemplate and understand this. ||16||
ਸੱਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਸਾਗਰ ਨੂੰ ਤਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ। ਕੇਵਲ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਵਿਚਾਰਵਾਨ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਚੇ = ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ। ਕੋ = ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ। ਵੀਚਾਰੀ = ਵਿਚਾਰਵਾਨ ॥੧੬॥
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਵਿਚਾਰਵਾਨ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ (ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੰਘਾ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧੬॥
ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੋਈ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥੧੭॥
We obtain only that which is pre-ordained; receiving the Lord's Shabad, we are embellished. ||17||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕੁਝ ਬੰਦੇ ਲਈ ਮੁੱਢ ਤੋਂ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਕੇਵਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ, ਉਹ ਸ਼ਸ਼ੋਭਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਧੁਰਿ = ਧੁਰ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ। ਮਿਲਿ = ਮਿਲ ਕੇ। ਸਬਦਿ = ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ। ਸਵਾਰੀ = ਸੰਵਾਰ ਲਈ ॥੧੭॥
(ਪਰ ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਦੀ ਖੇਡ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ) ਧੁਰ-ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਉਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਜੀਵ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੰਵਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੭॥
ਕਾਇਆ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਰਾਤੀ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥੧੮॥
Imbued with the Shabad, the body becomes golden, and loves only the True Name. ||18||
ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਜ ਕੇ, ਦੇਹ ਸੋਨੇ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਚਮਕਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕੇਵਲ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਕਾਇਆ = ਸਰੀਰ। ਕੰਚਨੁ = ਸੋਨਾ। ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ = ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ॥੧੮॥
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਸੁੱਧ ਸੋਨੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਵਿਕਾਰ-ਰਹਿਤ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੧੮॥
ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਰਹੀ ਭਰਪੂਰੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੧੯॥
The body is then filled to overflowing with Ambrosial Nectar, obtained by contemplating the Shabad. ||19||
ਨਾਮ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਦੇਹ ਪਰੀਪੂਰਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਸੋਚ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ = ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ ਜਲ ਨਾਲ ॥੧੯॥
(ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਉਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ) ਜਿਹੜਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਨਾਲ ਨਕਾ-ਨਕ ਭਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੯॥
ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਖੋਜਹਿ ਸੇਈ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਹੋਰਿ ਫੂਟਿ ਮੂਏ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥੨੦॥
Those who seek God, find Him; others burst and die from their own egotism. ||20||
ਜੋ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਢੂੰਡ ਭਾਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੋਰ ਆਪਣੀ ਨਿੱਜ ਦੀ ਸਵੈ-ਹੰਗਤਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਾਟ ਕੇ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਖੋਜਹਿ = ਲੱਭਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੋਰਿ = ਹੋਰ ਬੰਦੇ। ਫੂਟਿ ਮੂਏ = ਆਫਰ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰ ਗਏ ਹਨ ॥੨੦॥
(ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ!) ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣੇ ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਸਰੀਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਭਾਲਣ ਵਾਲੇ) ਹੋਰ ਬੰਦੇ (ਭੇਖ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ) ਮਾਣ ਵਿਚ ਆਫਰ ਆਫਰ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨੦॥
ਬਾਦੀ ਬਿਨਸਹਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥੨੧॥
The debaters waste away, while the servants serve, with love and affection for the Guru. ||21||
ਝਗੜਾਲੂ ਬਰਬਾਦ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਗੋਲੇ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਅਤੇ ਪਿਰਹੜੀ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਬਾਦੀ = {ਵਾਦੁ = ਝਗੜਾ, ਬਹਿਸ, ਚਰਚਾ} ਨਿਰੀ ਚਰਚਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ। ਬਿਨਸਹਿ = ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਸੇਵਹਿ = ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ = ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ (ਦਿੱਤੇ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ। ਪਿਆਰੀ = ਪਿਆਰਿ, ਪਿਆਰ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ॥੨੧॥
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਨਿਰੀਆਂ ਫੋਕੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਭਗਤ ਜਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਿਲੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨੧॥
ਸੋ ਜੋਗੀ ਤਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਮਾਰੀ ॥੨੨॥
He alone is a Yogi, who contemplates the essence of spiritual wisdom, and conquers egotism and thirsty desire. ||22||
ਕੇਵਲ ਉਹ ਹੀ ਯੋਗੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ-ਵੀਚਾਰ ਦੀ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਚਦਾ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਵੈ-ਹੰਗਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਖਾਹਿਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਮੁਕਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਤੁ = ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ। ਗਿਆਨੁ = ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ। ਮਾਰੀ = ਮਾਰਿ, ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ॥੨੨॥
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੋਗੀ ਹੈ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ) ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉੱਚੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮੂਲ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਚਾਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨੨॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਤਿਨੈ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥੨੩॥
The True Guru, the Great Giver, is revealed to those upon whom You bestow Your Grace, O Lord. ||23||
ਕੇਵਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਹਿਮਤ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!
ਦਾਤਾ = (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ। ਤਿਨੈ = ਤਿਨਿ ਹੀ, ਉਸੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਨੇ। ਜਿਸ ਨੋ = {ਸੰਬੰਧਕ 'ਨੋ' ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਜਿਸੁ' ਦਾ ੁ ਉੱਡ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ} ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ॥੨੩॥
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਦਇਆ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸਮਝੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ (ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੨੩॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਲਾਗੇ ਡੂਬਿ ਮੂਏ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥੨੪॥
Those who do not serve the True Guru, and who are attached to Maya, are drowned; they die in their own egotism. ||24||
ਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਜੋ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਧਨ ਦੌਲਤ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਡੁੱਬ ਕੇ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨ ਸੇਵਹਿ = ਸੇਵਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੇ। ਡੂਬਿ = (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ) ਡੁੱਬ ਕੇ। ਮੂਏ = ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜ ਬੈਠੇ ॥੨੪॥
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੱਲਦੇ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ (ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਹੋਏ ਹੋਏ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ) ਡੁੱਬ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨੪॥
ਜਿਚਰੁ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਾਸੁ ਤਿਚਰੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਚੈ ਜਾਇ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਰਾਮ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥੨੫॥
As long as there is breath within you, so long you should serve the Lord; then, you will go and meet the Lord. ||25||
ਜਿੰਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੁਆਸ ਹੈ ਓਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਟਹਿਲ ਕਮਾ। ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਮੁਰ ਰਾਖਸ਼ ਦੇ ਮਾਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਵੇਗਾਂ।
ਜਿਚਰੁ = ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ। ਕੀਚੈ = ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ। ਮੁਰਾਰੀ = {ਮੁਰ-ਅਰਿ। 'ਮੁਰ' ਦੈਂਤ ਦਾ ਵੈਰੀ। ਸ੍ਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ} ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ॥੨੫॥
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਹ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਉਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾ ਮਿਲੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨੫॥
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗਤ ਰਹੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਅਪਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥੨੬॥
Night and day, she remains awake and aware, day and night; she is the darling bride of her Beloved Husband Lord. ||26||
ਲਾਡਲੀ ਪਤਨੀ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਹੈ, ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹੀ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਖਬਰਦਾਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ = {अनुदिनं} ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼। ਪ੍ਰਿਅ = ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦੀ। ਪਿਆਰੀ = ਪਿਆਰਿ, ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ॥੨੬॥
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ-ਪਿਆਰ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਵੇਲੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਹੱਲਿਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨੬॥
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਵਾਰੀ ਵਾਰਿ ਘੁਮਾਈ ਅਪਨੇ ਗੁਰ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ॥੨੭॥
I offer my body and mind in sacrifice to my Guru; I am a sacrifice to Him. ||27||
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਦੇਹ ਅਤੇ ਜਿੰਦੜੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ, ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਸਦਕੜੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉਤੋਂ ਖੰਨੀਏ ਵੰਞਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਵਾਰੀ = ਵਾਰੀਂ, ਮੈਂ ਵਾਰ ਦਿਆਂ। ਵਾਰਿ ਘੁਮਾਈ = ਵਾਰਿ ਘੁਮਾਈਂ, ਵਾਰ ਕੇ ਸਦਕੇ ਕਰ ਦਿਆਂ। ਵਿਟਹੁ = ਤੋਂ ॥੨੭॥
(ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਤਾਹੀਏਂ) ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਤਨ ਮਨ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਘੋਲਿ ਘੁਮਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੨੭॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਇਗਾ ਉਬਰੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੨੮॥
Attachment to Maya will end and go away; only by contemplating the Shabad will you be saved. ||28||
ਧਨ-ਦੌਲਤ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਲਗਨ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਗੇ। ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹੀ ਬੰਦਾ ਬੰਦਖਲਾਸ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਉਬਰੇ = ਬਚ ਗਏ। ਸਬਦਿ = ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ। ਵੀਚਾਰੀ = ਵੀਚਾਰਿ, (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ) ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ॥੨੮॥
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚ ਨਿਕਲਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਜਿਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗਾ ॥੨੮॥
ਆਪਿ ਜਗਾਏ ਸੇਈ ਜਾਗੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੨੯॥
They are awake and aware, whom the Lord Himself awakens; so contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||29||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਈਂ ਖੁਦ ਜਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੇਵਲ ਉਹ ਹੀ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਸੋਚ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਜਾਗਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸੋਈ = ਉਹੀ ਬੰਦੇ। ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ = ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ। ਵੀਚਾਰੀ = ਵਿਚਾਰਵਾਨ ॥੨੯॥
(ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਇਹ ਕੋਈ ਸੌਖੀ ਖੇਡ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਾਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਜਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਜਿਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਚਾਰਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨੯॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇਈ ਮੂਏ ਜਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਭਗਤ ਜੀਵੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੩੦॥੪॥੧੩॥
O Nanak, those who do not remember the Naam are dead. The devotees live in contemplative meditation. ||30||4||13||
ਨਾਨਕ, ਕੇਵਲ ਉਹ ਹੀ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ। ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਭਜਨ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸੰਤ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਜੀਉਂਦੇ ਜਾਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਿ = ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ। ਜੀਵੇ = ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ ॥੩੦॥੪॥੧੩॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ!) ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ, ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਮਰੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਦਾ ਸਦਕਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ ॥੩੦॥੪॥੧੩॥
