The One who creates and dissolves the world — that Lord and Master Waheguru Ji alone knows His creative power. Do not search for the True Lord Waheguru Ji far away; recognize the Word of His Shabad in each and every heart. Recognize the True Word of the Shabad, and do not think that the Lord Waheguru Ji is far away; He created this creation. Meditating on the Naam, Waheguru Ji, the Name of the Lord, peace is obtained; without the Naam, Waheguru Ji, it is a losing game. The One who established the Universe — He alone knows the Way; what can anyone say? The One who established the world cast the net over it; accept Him as your Lord and Master Waheguru Ji . || 1 || O Baba, they have come, and now they must get up and depart; this world is only a way-station. Upon each and every head, the True Lord writes their destiny of pain and pleasure, according to their past actions. He bestows pain and pleasure, according to the deeds done; the record of these actions stays with the soul. They do those deeds which the Creator Lord causes them to do; they attempt no other actions. The Lord Himself is detached, while the world is entangled in conflict; by His Command, He emancipates it. They may put this off today, but tomorrow they are seized by death; in love with duality, they practice corruption. || 2 || The path of death is dark and dismal; the way cannot be seen. There is no water, no quilt or mattress, and no food there. There is no food there, no honor or water, no clothes or decorations. The chain is put around one’s neck, and the Messenger of Death standing over his head strikes him; he cannot see the door of his home. The seeds planted on this path do not sprout; bearing the load of sin on his head, he regrets and repents. Without the True Lord, no one is his friend; reflect upon this as true. || 3 || O Baba, they alone are known to weep and wail, who meet together and weep, chanting the Praises of the Lord. Defrauded by Maya and worldly affairs, the weepers weep. They weep for the sake of worldly affairs, and they do not wash off their own filth; the world is a dream. Like the juggler, deceiving by his tricks, one is deluded by egotism, falsehood and illusion. The Lord Himself reveals the Path; He Himself is the Doer of deeds. Those who are imbued with the Naam Waheguru Ji are protected by My Perfect Guru Ji. O Nanak, they merge in celestial bliss. || 4 || 4 ||

Wadahans, First Mehl:
ਜਿਨਿ ਜਗੁ ਸਿਰਜਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ਸੋ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਜਾਣੋਵਾ ॥
जिनि जगु सिरजि समाइआ सो साहिबु कुदरति जाणोवा ॥
Jin jag siraj samā▫i▫ā so sāhib kuḏraṯ jāṇovā.
The One who creates and dissolves the world - that Lord and Master alone knows His creative power.
ਸਚੜਾ ਦੂਰਿ ਨ ਭਾਲੀਐ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣੋਵਾ ॥
सचड़ा दूरि न भालीऐ घटि घटि सबदु पछाणोवा ॥
Sacẖṛā ḏūr na bẖālī▫ai gẖat gẖat sabaḏ pacẖẖāṇovā.
Do not search for the True Lord far away; recognize the Word of the Shabad in each and every heart.
ਸਚੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣਹੁ ਦੂਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਹੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਏਹ ਰਚਨਾ ਰਾਚੀ ॥
सचु सबदु पछाणहु दूरि न जाणहु जिनि एह रचना राची ॥
Sacẖ sabaḏ pacẖẖāṇhu ḏūr na jāṇhu jin eh racẖnā rācẖī.
Recognize the Shabad, and do not think that the Lord is far away; He created this creation.
ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਤਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਪਿੜ ਕਾਚੀ ॥
नामु धिआए ता सुखु पाए बिनु नावै पिड़ काची ॥
Nām ḏẖi▫ā▫e ṯā sukẖ pā▫e bin nāvai piṛ kācẖī.
Meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, one obtains peace; without the Naam, he plays a losing game.
ਜਿਨਿ ਥਾਪੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਸੋਈ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਕਹੈ ਵਖਾਣੋ ॥
जिनि थापी बिधि जाणै सोई किआ को कहै वखाणो ॥
Jin thāpī biḏẖ jāṇai so▫ī ki▫ā ko kahai vakẖāṇo.
The One who established the Universe, He alone knows the Way; what can anyone say?
ਜਿਨਿ ਜਗੁ ਥਾਪਿ ਵਤਾਇਆ ਜਾਲ ਸੋ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੋ ॥੧॥
जिनि जगु थापि वताइआ जालो सो साहिबु परवाणो ॥१॥
Jin jag thāp vaṯā▫i▫ā jālo so sāhib parvāṇo. ||1||
The One who established the world cast the net of Maya over it; accept Him as your Lord and Master. ||1||
ਬਾਬਾ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਠਿ ਚਲਣਾ ਅਧ ਪੰਧੈ ਹੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੋਵਾ ॥
बाबा आइआ है उठि चलणा अध पंधै है संसारोवा ॥
Bābā ā▫i▫ā hai uṯẖ cẖalṇā aḏẖ panḏẖai hai sansārovā.
O Baba, he has come, and now he must get up and depart; this world is only a way-station.
ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਚੜੈ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਪੁਰਬਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੋਵਾ ॥
सिरि सिरि सचड़ै लिखिआ दुखु सुखु पुरबि वीचारोवा ॥
Sir sir sacẖṛai likẖi▫ā ḏukẖ sukẖ purab vīcẖārovā.
Upon each and every head, the True Lord writes their destiny of pain and pleasure, according to their past actions.
ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਦੀਆ ਜੇਹਾ ਕੀਆ ਸੋ ਨਿਬਹੈ ਜੀਅ ਨਾਲੇ ॥
दुखु सुखु दीआ जेहा कीआ सो निबहै जीअ नाले ॥
Ḏukẖ sukẖ ḏī▫ā jehā kī▫ā so nibhai jī▫a nāle.
He bestows pain and pleasure, according to the deeds done; the record of these deeds stays with the soul.
ਜੇਹੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਦੂਜੀ ਕਾਰ ਨ ਭਾਲੇ ॥
जेहे करम कराए करता दूजी कार न भाले ॥
Jehe karam karā▫e karṯā ḏūjī kār na bẖāle.
He does those deeds which the Creator Lord causes him to do; he attempts no other actions.
ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰਾਲਮੁ ਧੰਧੈ ਬਾਧੀ ਕਰਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਛਡਾਵਣਹਾਰੋ ॥
आपि निरालमु धंधै बाधी करि हुकमु छडावणहारो ॥
Āp nirālam ḏẖanḏẖai bāḏẖī kar hukam cẖẖadāvaṇhāro.
The Lord Himself is detached, while the world is entangled in conflict; by His Command, He emancipates it.
ਅਜੁ ਕਲਿ ਕਰਦਿਆ ਕਾਲੁ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਵਿਕਾਰੋ ॥੨॥
अजु कलि करदिआ कालु बिआपै दूजै भाइ विकारो ॥२॥
Aj kal karḏi▫ā kāl bi▫āpai ḏūjai bẖā▫e vikāro. ||2||
He may put this off today, but tomorrow he is seized by death; in love with duality, he practices corruption. ||2||
ਜਮ ਮਾਰਗ ਪੰਥੁ ਨ ਸੁਝਈ ਉਝੜੁ ਅੰਧ ਗੁਬਾਰੋਵਾ ॥
जम मारग पंथु न सुझई उझड़ु अंध गुबारोवा ॥
Jam mārag panth na sujẖ▫ī ujẖaṛ anḏẖ gubārovā.
The path of death is dark and dismal; the way cannot be seen.
ਨਾ ਜਲੁ ਲੇਫ ਤੁਲਾਈਆ ਨਾ ਭੋਜਨ ਪਰਕਾਰੋਵਾ ॥
ना जलु लेफ तुलाईआ ना भोजन परकारोवा ॥
Nā jal lef ṯulā▫ī▫ā nā bẖojan parkārovā.
There is no water, no quilt or mattress, and no food there.
ਭੋਜਨ ਭਾਉ ਨ ਠੰਢਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾ ਕਾਪੜੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੋ ॥
भोजन भाउ न ठंढा पाणी ना कापड़ु सीगारो ॥
Bẖojan bẖā▫o na ṯẖandẖā pāṇī nā kāpaṛ sīgāro.
He receives no food there, no honor or water, no clothes or decorations.
ਗਲਿ ਸੰਗਲੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਮਾਰੇ ਊਭੌ ਨਾ ਦੀਸੈ ਘਰ ਬਾਰੋ ॥
गलि संगलु सिरि मारे ऊभौ ना दीसै घर बारो ॥
Gal sangal sir māre ūbẖou nā ḏīsai gẖar bāro.
The chain is put around his neck, and the Messenger of Death standing over his head strikes him; he cannot see the door of his home.
ਇਬ ਕੇ ਰਾਹੇ ਜੰਮਨਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਪਛੁਤਾਣੇ ਸਿਰਿ ਭਾਰੋ ॥
इब के राहे जमनि नाही पछुताणे सिरि भारो ॥
Ib ke rāhe jamman nāhī pacẖẖuṯāṇe sir bẖāro.
The seeds planted on this path do not sprout; bearing the weight of his sins upon his head, he regrets and repents.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੋ ਬੇਲੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਾਚਾ ਏਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੋ ॥੩॥
बिनु साचे को बेली नाही साचा एहु बीचारो ॥३॥
Bin sācẖe ko belī nāhī sācẖā ehu bīcẖāro. ||3||
Without the True Lord, no one is his friend; reflect upon this as true. ||3||
ਬਾਬਾ ਰੋਵਹਿ ਰਵਹਿ ਸੁ ਜਾਣੀਅਹਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਰੋਵੈ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰੇਵਾ ॥
बाबा रोवहि रवहि सु जाणीअहि मिलि रोवै गुण सारेवा ॥
Bābā rovėh ravėh so jāṇī▫ahi mil rovai guṇ sārevā.
O Baba, they alone are known to truly weep and wail, who meet together and weep, chanting the Praises of the Lord.
ਰੋਵੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੁਠੜੀ ਧੰਧੜਾ ਰੋਵਣਹਾਰੇਵਾ ॥
रोवै माइआ मुठड़ी धंधड़ा रोवणहारेवा ॥
Rovai mā▫i▫ā muṯẖ▫ṛī ḏẖanḏẖ▫ṛā rovaṇhārevā.
Defrauded by Maya and worldly affairs, the weepers weep.
ਧੰਧਾ ਰੋਵੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਧੋਵੈ ਸੁਪਨੰਤਰੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੋ ॥
धंधा रोवै मैलु न धोवै सुपनंतरु संसारो ॥
Ḏẖanḏẖā rovai mail na ḏẖovai supnanṯar sansāro.
They weep for the sake of worldly affairs, and they do not wash off their own filth; the world is merely a dream.
ਜਿਉ ਬਾਜੀਗਰੁ ਭਰਮੈ ਭੂਲੈ ਝੂਠਿ ਮੁਠੀ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੋ ॥
जिउ बाजीगरु भरमै भूलै झूठि मुठी अहंकारो ॥
Ji▫o bājīgar bẖarmai bẖūlai jẖūṯẖ muṯẖī ahankāro.
Like the juggler, deceiving by his tricks, one is deluded by egotism, falsehood and illusion.
ਆਪੇ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਵਣਹਾਰਾ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਏ ॥
आपे मारगि पावणहारा आपे करम कमाए ॥
Āpe mārag pāvaṇhārā āpe karam kamā▫e.
The Lord Himself reveals the Path; He Himself is the Doer of deeds.
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਰਾਖੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥੪॥੪॥
नामि रते गुरि पूरै राखे नानक सहजि सुभाए ॥४॥४॥
Nām raṯe gur pūrai rākẖe Nānak sahj subẖā▫e. ||4||4||
Those who are imbued with the Naam, are protected by the Perfect Guru, O Nanak; they merge in celestial bliss. ||4||4||

ਵਡਹੰਸ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ। ਜੋ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਜਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮਿਸਮਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੇਵਲ ਉਹ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਅਪਾਰ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਤਿਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਦੁਰੇਡੇ ਖੋਜ-ਭਾਲ ਨਾਂ ਕਰ, ਤੂੰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਿਞਾਣ। ਤੂੰ ਸੱਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਰੇਡੇ ਖਿਆਲ ਨਾਂ ਕਰ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਾਜਿਆ ਹੈ। ਜਦ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਚਿੰਤਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦ ਉਹ ਆਰਾਮ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਉਹ ਹਾਰ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਖੇਡ ਖੇਡਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜੋ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਅਸਥਾਪਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਓਹੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਦੇਣ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕੋਈ ਕੀ ਆਖ ਤੇ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਾਜਿਆ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਇਸ ਉਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਫੰਧਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਸਵੀਕਾਰ ਕਰ।
ਜਿਨਿ = ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ। ਸਿਰਜਿ = ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ। ਸਮਾਇਆ = (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਵਿਚ) ਲੀਨ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ। ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਜਾਣੋ = ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਜਾਣੁ (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!)। ਸਚੜਾ = ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ। ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ = ਹਰੇਕ ਘਟ ਵਿਚ। ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣੋ = (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਪਛਾਣ। ਸਬਦੁ = ਹੁਕਮ। ਸਚੁ = ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ। ਜਿਨਿ = ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ। ਰਾਚੀ = ਰਚੀ, ਬਣਾਈ। ਪਿੜ ਕਾਚੀ = ਪਿੜ ਦੀ ਕੱਚੀ, ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ ਜਿੱਤਣ ਤੋਂ ਅਸਮਰਥ। ਬਿਧਿ = ਤਰੀਕਾ। ਵਖਾਣੋ = ਵਖਾਣੁ, ਉਪਦੇਸ਼। ਵਤਾਇਆ = ਵਿਛਾਇਆ। ਜਾਲ = (ਅਸਲ ਪਾਠ 'ਜਾਲੁ' ਹੈ, ਇਥੇ 'ਜਾਲੋ' ਪੜ੍ਹਨਾ ਹੈ)।੧।
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਜਗਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਭੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਾਸ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਸਮਝ। (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ (ਰਚੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਤੋਂ) ਦੂਰ (ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਥਾਂ) ਲੱਭਣ ਦਾ ਜਤਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ। ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਉਸੇ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਪਛਾਣ। (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਰਚਨਾ ਰਚੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਰ (ਕਿਤੇ ਵੱਖਰਾ) ਨਾਹ ਸਮਝੋ, (ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ) ਉਸ ਦਾ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਪਛਾਣੋ। ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਭੀ ਇਸ ਉਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ, ਪਰ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ ਜਿੱਤਣ ਤੋਂ ਅਸਮਰਥ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਰਚਨਾ ਰਚੀ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਦੀ ਵਿਧੀ ਭੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਉਲਟ) ਕੋਈ (ਹੋਰ) ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ। ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਜਗਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਇਸ ਦੇ ਉਪਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ) ਜਾਲ ਵਿਛਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਮੰਨਿਆ-ਪ੍ਰਮੰਨਿਆ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਉਹੀ ਇਸ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਣ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੈ)।੧।
ਬਾਬਾ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਠਿ ਚਲਣਾ ਅਧ ਪੰਧੈ ਹੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੋਵਾ ॥ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਚੜੈ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਪੁਰਬਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੋਵਾ ॥ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਦੀਆ ਜੇਹਾ ਕੀਆ ਸੋ ਨਿਬਹੈ ਜੀਅ ਨਾਲੇ ॥ ਜੇਹੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਦੂਜੀ ਕਾਰ ਨ ਭਾਲੇ ॥ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰਾਲਮੁ ਧੰਧੈ ਬਾਧੀ ਕਰਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਛਡਾਵਣਹਾਰੋ ॥ ਅਜੁ ਕਲਿ ਕਰਦਿਆ ਕਾਲੁ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਵਿਕਾਰੋ ॥੨॥
O Baba, he has come, and now he must get up and depart; this world is only a way-station. Upon each and every head, the True Lord writes their destiny of pain and pleasure, according to their past actions. He bestows pain and pleasure, according to the deeds done; the record of these deeds stays with the soul. He does those deeds which the Creator Lord causes him to do; he attempts no other actions. The Lord Himself is detached, while the world is entangled in conflict; by His Command, He emancipates it. He may put this off today, but tomorrow he is seized by death; in love with duality, he practices corruption. ||2||
ਹੇ ਪਿਤਾ! ਏਥੇ ਆ ਕੇ, ਬੰਦੇ ਨੇ ਟੁਰ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਇਕ ਨਿਰਾ ਅੱਧ-ਵਾਟੇ ਦਾ ਪੜਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੂਰਬਲੇ ਕਰਮਾ ਦਾ ਖਿਆਲ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸੱਚਾ ਸਾਈਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਗਮੀ ਤੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਲਿਖ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਅਮਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤਕਲੀਫ ਤੇ ਆਰਾਮ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਐਹੋ ਜੇਹੇ ਕੰਮ-ਕਾਜ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਉਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਕਰਵਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰਸ ਕੰਮ ਦੀ ਤਲਾਸ਼ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ। ਖੁਦ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਹੈ, ਮਗਰ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਪੁਆੜਿਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਫਾਬਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜਾ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਦ-ਖਲਾਸ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਦਵੈਤ-ਭਾਵ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਹ ਪਾਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਜ-ਆਥਣ ਜਾਂ ਕਲ੍ਹ ਤਾਂਈਂ ਮੁਲਤਵੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਆ ਪਕੜਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਬਾਬਾ = ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਅਧ ਪੰਧੈ = ਅੱਧ ਵਾਟੇ, ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਵਿਚ। ਸੰਸਾਰੋ = ਸੰਸਾਰ, ਜਗਤ। ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ = ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ। ਸਚੜੈ = ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ। ਪੁਰਬਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੋ = ਪੁਰਬਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ, ਪੂਰਬਲੇ ਸਮੇ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਿਚਾਰ। ਜੇਹਾ ਕੀਆ = ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਕਰਮ ਕੀਤਾ। ਦੂਜੀ = ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ। ਨਿਰਾਲਮੁ = ਨਿਰਲੇਪ। ਬਾਧੀ = ਬੱਝੀ ਹੋਈ। ਕਾਲੁ ਵਿਆਪੈ = ਮੌਤ ਆ ਦਬਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਭਾਇ = ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ। ਵਿਕਾਰੋ = ਵਿਕਾਰੁ, ਵਿਅਰਥ ਕੰਮ।੨।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜਨਮ ਲੈ ਕੇ) ਆਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ (ਇਥੋਂ) ਚਲੇ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ (ਜੀਵ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ ਇਥੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਵਿਹਾਝਣ। ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਜਗਤ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪੂਰਬਲੇ ਸਮੇ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਦੁੱਖ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਖ (ਭੋਗਣ) ਦੇ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ। ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਕਰਮ ਜੀਵ ਨੇ ਕੀਤਾ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਮੂਹ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਨਿਭਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਪਰ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਭੀ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ?) ਕਰਤਾਰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਕਰਮ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਕਰਮ ਜੀਵ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ) ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਤੋਂ ਲਾਂਭੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਤਾਂ (ਕਰਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਹੈ, ਲੁਕਾਈ (ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਆਹਰ ਵਿਚ ਬੱਝੀ ਪਈ ਹੈ। (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਭੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੁਕਮ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਛੁਡਾਣ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੈ। (ਜੀਵ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਆਲਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਅੱਜ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਭਲਕੇ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ (ਇਹੀ ਟਾਲ-ਮਟੋਲੇ) ਕਰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਆ ਦਬਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਕੇ) ਹੋਰ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।੨।
ਜਮ ਮਾਰਗ ਪੰਥੁ ਨ ਸੁਝਈ ਉਝੜੁ ਅੰਧ ਗੁਬਾਰੋਵਾ ॥ ਨਾ ਜਲੁ ਲੇਫ ਤੁਲਾਈਆ ਨਾ ਭੋਜਨ ਪਰਕਾਰੋਵਾ ॥ ਭੋਜਨ ਭਾਉ ਨ ਠੰਢਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾ ਕਾਪੜੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੋ ॥ ਗਲਿ ਸੰਗਲੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਮਾਰੇ ਊਭੌ ਨਾ ਦੀਸੈ ਘਰ ਬਾਰੋ ॥ ਇਬ ਕੇ ਰਾਹੇ ਜੰਮਨਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਪਛੁਤਾਣੇ ਸਿਰਿ ਭਾਰੋ ॥ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੋ ਬੇਲੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਾਚਾ ਏਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੋ ॥੩॥
The path of death is dark and dismal; the way cannot be seen. There is no water, no quilt or mattress, and no food there. He receives no food there, no honor or water, no clothes or decorations. The chain is put around his neck, and the Messenger of Death standing over his head strikes him; he cannot see the door of his home. The seeds planted on this path do not sprout; bearing the weight of his sins upon his head, he regrets and repents. Without the True Lord, no one is his friend; reflect upon this as true. ||3||
ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ, ਸੁੰਨਸਾਨ ਤੇ ਪਰਮ ਕਾਲਾ-ਬੋਲਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਹ ਦਿਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ। ਨਾਂ ਪਾਣੀ, ਰਜ਼ਾਈ ਤੇ ਗਦੇਲਾ ਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਰੰਗ ਬਰੰਗੇ ਖਾਣ ਉਥੇ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਥੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਖੁਰਾਕ, ਪਿਆਰ ਦੇ ਸੀਤਲ ਜੱਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਖੁਸ਼ਨਮਾ ਪੁਸ਼ਾਕ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੀ ਗਰਦਨ ਜ਼ੰਗੀਰ ਨਾਲ ਜਕੜੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਮਦੂਤ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਖੜੋਤਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਆਰਾਮ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਦਾ ਬੂਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿਸਦਾ)। ਇਸ ਰਸਤੇ ਦੇ ਬੀਜੇ ਹੋਏ ਦਾਣੇ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਬੋਝ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਲਈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਅਫਸੋਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸੱਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਹੀ ਸੱਚੀ ਸੋਚ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਹੈ।
ਮਾਰਗੁ = ਰਸਤਾ। ਪੰਥੁ = ਰਸਤਾ। ਉਝੜੁ = ਉਜਾੜ। ਅੰਧ ਗੁਬਾਰੋ = ਅੰਧ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ, ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰਾ। ਪਰਕਾਰੋ = ਪਰਕਾਰ, ਕਿਸਮ। ਨਾ ਭੋਜਨ ਪਰਕਾਰੋ = ਨਾਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਭੋਜਨ। ਗਲਿ = ਗਲ ਵਿਚ। ਸਿਰਿ = ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ। ਊਭੌ = ਖਲੋਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ। ਘਰ ਬਾਰ = ਘਰ ਘਾਟ, ਕੋਈ ਆਸਰਾ। ਇਬ ਕੇ ਰਾਹੇ = ਹੁਣ ਦੇ ਬੀਜੇ ਹੋਏ। ਜੰਮਨਿ ਨਾਹੀ = ਨਹੀਂ ਉੱਗਦੇ।੩।
(ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਦੌੜ-ਭੱਜ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਭੁਲਾਣ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਮੌਤ ਆਉਣ ਤੇ) ਜੀਵ ਜਮ ਵਾਲਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਫੜਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜੇਹੜਾ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਭਾ ਦਾ) ਉਜਾੜ ਹੀ ਉਜਾੜ ਹੈ ਜਿਥੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁੱਝਦਾ (ਕਿ ਇਸ ਬਿਪਤਾ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਨਿਕਲਾਂ)। (ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ, ਪਰ ਜਮ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਪਏ ਨੂੰ) ਨਾਹ ਪਾਣੀ, ਨਾਹ ਲੇਫ, ਨਾਹ ਤੁਲਾਈ ਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਭੋਜਨ, ਨਾਹ ਠੰਢਾ ਪਾਣੀ, ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਕੱਪੜਾ (ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਮੌਤ ਨੇ ਖੋਹ ਲਏ, ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਧਰੇ ਰਹਿ ਗਏ)। ਜਮਰਾਜ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਗਲ ਵਿਚ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ) ਸੰਗਲ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਖਲੋਤਾ ਚੋਟਾਂ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਚੋਟਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਲਈ) ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ। (ਜਦੋਂ ਜਮਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਚੋਟਾਂ ਪੈ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ) ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਦੇ ਬੀਜੇ ਹੋਏ (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਸੇਵਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ ਬੀਜ) ਉੱਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ। ਤਦੋਂ ਪਛੁਤਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੀਤੇ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਭਾਰ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ (ਜੋ ਲਹਿ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ)। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਸ ਅਟੱਲ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਰੱਖੋ ਕਿ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਸਾਥੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦਾ।੩।
ਬਾਬਾ ਰੋਵਹਿ ਰਵਹਿ ਸੁ ਜਾਣੀਅਹਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਰੋਵੈ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰੇਵਾ ॥ ਰੋਵੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੁਠੜੀ ਧੰਧੜਾ ਰੋਵਣਹਾਰੇਵਾ ॥ ਧੰਧਾ ਰੋਵੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਧੋਵੈ ਸੁਪਨੰਤਰੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੋ ॥ ਜਿਉ ਬਾਜੀਗਰੁ ਭਰਮੈ ਭੂਲੈ ਝੂਠਿ ਮੁਠੀ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੋ ॥ ਆਪੇ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਵਣਹਾਰਾ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਏ ॥ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਰਾਖੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥੪॥੪॥
O Baba, they alone are known to truly weep and wail, who meet together and weep, chanting the Praises of the Lord. Defrauded by Maya and worldly affairs, the weepers weep. They weep for the sake of worldly affairs, and they do not wash off their own filth; the world is merely a dream. Like the juggler, deceiving by his tricks, one is deluded by egotism, falsehood and illusion. The Lord Himself reveals the Path; He Himself is the Doer of deeds. Those who are imbued with the Naam, are protected by the Perfect Guru, O Nanak; they merge in celestial bliss. ||4||4||
ਹੇ ਪਿਤਾ! ਅਸਲ ਵਿੱਚ (ਵੈਰਾਗਮਈ ਹੋ) ਕੇਵਲ ਉਹੀ ਰੌਦੇ ਤੇ ਵਿਰਲਾਪ ਕਰਦੇ ਜਾਣੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਇਕੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ, ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੰਝੂ ਕੇਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਧਨ-ਦੌਲਤ ਦੇ ਠੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਖਾਤਿਰ ਰੋਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਰੋਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਸੁਫਨੇ ਵਰਗੇ ਜਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਹ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਰੋਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਾਪ-ਮੈਲ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਧੋਂਦੇ। ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਦਾਰੀ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਭਰੀ ਖੇਡ ਅੰਦਰ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਏਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਆਦਮੀ ਕੂੜ ਤੇ ਕਪਟ ਦੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਗ੍ਰਹਸਤ ਹੈ। ਸੁਆਮੀ ਖੁਦ ਰਸਤਾ ਦਿਖਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ। ਨਾਨਕ, ਜੋ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਜੇ ਹਨ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੁਰਨ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਸੁਭਾਵਕ ਹੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਬਾਬਾ = ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਰੋਵਹਿ = ਜੋ ਵੈਰਾਗ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਰਵਹਿ = ਜੋ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਸੁ = ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ। ਜਾਣੀਅਹਿ = ਆਦਰ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਮਿਲਿ = (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿਲ ਕੇ। ਰੋਵੈ = ਜੋ ਵੈਰਾਗਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਾਰੇ = ਸੰਭਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਰੋਵੈ = ਦੁੱਖੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮੁਠੜੀ = ਲੁੱਟੀ ਹੋਈ। ਸੁਪਨੰਤਰੁ = ਸੁਪਨ-ਅੰਤਰੁ, ਇਕ ਹੋਰ ਸੁਪਨਾ। ਮਾਰਗਿ = ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ। ਨਾਮਿ = ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ। ਗੁਰਿ = ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ। ਸਹਜਿ = ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ। ਸੁਭਾਏ = ਸੁਭਾਇ, ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ।੪।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਵੈਰਾਗਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਆਦਰ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਵੈਰਾਗਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਆਦਰ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)। ਪਰ ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਨੇ ਲੁੱਟ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਦੁੱਖੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। (ਮੋਹ-ਫਾਥੇ ਜੀਵ ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ) ਧੰਧਾ ਹੀ ਪਿੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਦੁੱਖੀ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜੇਹੜਾ ਜੀਵ (ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਆਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੀ ਦੁੱਖੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਕਦੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਧੋਂਦਾ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਾਰੀ ਹੀ ਉਮਰ) ਇਕ ਸੁਪਨਾ ਹੀ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਿਹਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਥੋਂ ਖੱਟਿਆ ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਨਾਹ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਦੌੜ-ਭੱਜ ਤਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਜਾਗ ਆਉਣ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪੱਲੇ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ)। ਜਿਵੇਂ ਬਾਜ਼ੀਗਰ (ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਵੇਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਚ ਰੁੱਝਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਕੂੜੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਠਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਈ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਕੂੜੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ) ਮਾਣ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ। (ਪਰ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ?) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤੇ ਤੇ ਪਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਕਰਮ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।੪।੪।
