Soohee, First Mehl:
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਭਾਂਡੈ ਭਾਉ ਤਿਨਾ ਸਵਾਰਸੀ ॥
जिन कउ भांडै भाउ तिना सवारसी ॥
Jin ka▫o bẖāʼndai bẖā▫o ṯinā savārasī.
Those whose minds are filled with love of the Lord, Waheguru Ji, are blessed and exalted.
ਸੂਖੀ ਕਰੈ ਪਸਾਉ ਦੂਖ ਵਿਸਾਰਸੀ ॥
सूखी करै पसाउ दूख विसारसी ॥
Sūkẖī karai pasā▫o ḏūkẖ visārasī.
They are blessed with peace, and their pains are forgotten.
ਸਹਸਾ ਮੂਲੇ ਨਾਹਿ ਸਰਪਰ ਤਾਰਸੀ ॥੧॥
सहसा मूले नाहि सरपर तारसी ॥१॥
Sahsā mūle nāhi sarpar ṯārsī. ||1||
He will undoubtedly, certainly save them. ||1||
ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਆਇ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਲੀਖਿਆ ॥
तिन्हा मिलिआ गुरु आइ जिन कउ लीखिआ ॥
Ŧinĥā mili▫ā gur ā▫e jin ka▫o līkẖi▫ā.
My Guru Ji comes to meet those whose destiny is so pre-ordained.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ਦੇਵੈ ਦੀਖਿਆ ॥
अम्रितु हरि का नाउ देवै दीखिआ ॥
Amriṯ har kā nā▫o ḏevai ḏīkẖi▫ā.
He blesses them with the Teachings of the Ambrosial Name of the Lord, Waheguru Ji.
ਚਾਲਹਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ਭਵਹਿ ਨ ਭੀਖਿਆ ॥੨॥
चालहि सतिगुर भाइ भवहि न भीखिआ ॥२॥
Cẖālėh saṯgur bẖā▫e bẖavėh na bẖīkẖi▫ā. ||2||
Those who walk in the Will of the My True Guru Ji, never wander begging. ||2||
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਮਹਲੁ ਹਜੂਰਿ ਦੂਜੇ ਨਿਵੈ ਕਿਸੁ ॥
जा कउ महलु हजूरि दूजे निवै किसु ॥
Jā ka▫o mahal hajūr ḏūje nivai kis.
And one who lives in the Mansion of the Lord, Waheguru Ji's Presence, why should he bow down to any other?
ਦਰਿ ਦਰਵਾਣੀ ਨਾਹਿ ਮੂਲੇ ਪੁਛ ਤਿਸੁ ॥
दरि दरवाणी नाहि मूले पुछ तिसु ॥
Ḏar ḏarvāṇī nāhi mūle pucẖẖ ṯis.
The gate-keeper at the Lord, Waheguru Ji's Gate shall not stop him to ask any questions.
ਛੁਟੈ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਬੋਲਿ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨਦਰਿ ਜਿਸੁ ॥੩॥
छुटै ता कै बोलि साहिब नदरि जिसु ॥३॥
Cẖẖutai ṯā kai bol sāhib naḏar jis. ||3||
And one who is blessed with the Lord, Waheguru Ji's Glance of Grace - by his words, others are emancipated as well. ||3||
ਘਲੇ ਆਣੇ ਆਪਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਦੂਜਾ ਮਤੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
घले आणे आपि जिसु नाही दूजा मतै कोइ ॥
Gẖale āṇe āp jis nāhī ḏūjā maṯai ko▫e.
The Lord, Waheguru Ji Himself sends out, and recalls the mortal beings; no one else gives Him advice.
ਢਾਹਿ ਉਸਾਰੇ ਸਾਜਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਭ ਸੋਇ ॥
ढाहि उसारे साजि जाणै सभ सोइ ॥
Dẖāhi usāre sāj jāṇai sabẖ so▫e.
He Himself demolishes, constructs and creates; He knows everything.
ਨਾਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਖਸੀਸ ਨਦਰੀ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੩॥੫॥
नाउ नानक बखसीस नदरी करमु होइ ॥४॥३॥५॥
Nā▫o Nānak bakẖsīs naḏrī karam ho▫e. ||4||3||5||
O Nanak, the Naam, Waheguru, the Name of the Lord, Waheguru Ji is the blessing, given to those who receive His Mercy, and His Grace. ||4||3||5||

ਸੂਹੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ। ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾ ਦੇ ਬਰਤਨ (ਮਨ) ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਹੈ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਰੂਹਾਨੀ-ਜੀਵਨ ਬਖਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਠੰਢ ਚੈਨ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਕਲੀਫ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅਸਲੋਂ ਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਨਿਸਚਿਤ ਹੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਾਰਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ।
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ = ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ (ਜੀਵਾਂ) ਨੂੰ। ਭਾਂਡੈ = ਭਾਂਡੇ ਵਿਚ, ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ। ਭਾਉ = ਪ੍ਰੇਮ। ਸਵਾਰਸੀ = ਸਵਾਰੇਗਾ, ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾਏਗਾ। ਸੂਖੀ = ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ। ਪਸਾਉ = ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦੁ, ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼। ਵਿਸਾਰਸੀ = ਵਿਸਾਰ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ, ਭੁਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਹਸਾ = ਸਹਿਮ, ਸ਼ੱਕ। ਸਰਪਰ = ਜ਼ਰੂਰ।੧।
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ (ਜੀਵਾਂ) ਨੂੰ (ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਰੂਪ) ਭਾਂਡੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ (ਦੀ ਭਿੱਛਿਆ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ), (ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਭੁਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਵਿਚ ਰਤਾ ਭੀ ਸ਼ੱਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿ ਅਜੇਹੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।
ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਆਇ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਲੀਖਿਆ ॥ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ਦੇਵੈ ਦੀਖਿਆ ॥ ਚਾਲਹਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ਭਵਹਿ ਨ ਭੀਖਿਆ ॥੨॥
ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆ ਕੇ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਲਭਧ ਲਿਖੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਮਈ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਟੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਕਦਾਚਿਤ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਪਿੰਨਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਫਿਰਦੇ।
ਲੀਖਿਆ = (ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਦਾ) ਲੇਖਾ। ਦੀਖਿਆ = ਸਿੱਖਿਆ। ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ = ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ। ਭੀਖਿਆ = ਭਿੱਖਿਆ ਵਾਸਤੇ।੨।
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਧੁਰੋਂ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਦਾ) ਲੇਖ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਆ ਕੇ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਵਜੋਂ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ (ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ (ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਪਾਸੇ) ਭਟਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਫਿਰਦੇ।੨।
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਮਹਲੁ ਹਜੂਰਿ ਦੂਜੇ ਨਿਵੈ ਕਿਸੁ ॥ ਦਰਿ ਦਰਵਾਣੀ ਨਾਹਿ ਮੂਲੇ ਪੁਛ ਤਿਸੁ ॥ ਛੁਟੈ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਬੋਲਿ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨਦਰਿ ਜਿਸੁ ॥੩॥
ਜੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹੋਰਸ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਕਸਕਾਰ ਕਰੇ? ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਰੇ ਦਾ ਦੁਆਰਪਾਲ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਸਲੋਂ ਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਸੁਆਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੁੱਛਦਾ। ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਆਖਣ ਤੇ ਬੰਦਖਲਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਹਿਮਤ ਹੈ।
ਮਹਲੁ = ਟਿਕਾਣਾ। ਹਜੂਰਿ = ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ। ਦਰਿ = ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ੇ ਤੇ। ਦਰਵਾਣੀ = ਦਰਬਾਨਾਂ ਦੀ। ਨਾਹਿ ਮੂਲੇ = ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਨਹੀਂ। ਤਾ ਕੈ ਬੋਲਿ = ਉਸ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ।੩।
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਾਹ ਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ) ਜਿਸ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਥਾਂ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਤਰਲੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ; ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ੇ ਤੇ (ਪਹੁੰਚੇ ਹੋਏ ਨੂੰ ਜਮ ਆਦਿਕ) ਦਰਬਾਨਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਪੁੱਛ-ਗਿੱਛ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਜਿਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਉਤੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਵਿਚ (ਚੱਲ ਕੇ) ਉਹ ਬੰਦਾ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੩।
ਘਲੇ ਆਣੇ ਆਪਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਦੂਜਾ ਮਤੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ ਢਾਹਿ ਉਸਾਰੇ ਸਾਜਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਭ ਸੋਇ ॥ ਨਾਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਖਸੀਸ ਨਦਰੀ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੩॥੫॥
ਸਾਹਿਬ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਪਸ ਬੁਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਸ਼ਵਰਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ। ਉਹ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਢਾਹ ਢੇਰੀ ਕਰਦਾ, ਬਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਜਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਾਰਾ ਕੁਛ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ। ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਇਕ ਦਾਤ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਮਾਲਕ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਹਿਮਤ ਧਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਣੇ = ਲਿਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਵਾਪਸ ਬੁਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋਇ ਮਤੈ ਨਾਹਿ = ਕੋਈ ਦੂਜਾ ਮੱਤਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇ ਸਕਦਾ। ਸਾਜਿ ਜਾਣੈ = ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨੇ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕਰਮੁ = ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼। ਨਦਰੀ = ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ।੪।
ਜਿਸ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋਈ ਮੱਤਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਭੇਜਦਾ ਹੈ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਵਾਪਸ ਸੱਦ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ-ਰਚਨਾ ਢਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਵਜੋਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।੪।੩।੫।
