As the king is entangled in kingly affairs, and the egotist in his own egotism, and the greedy man is enticed by greed, so is the spiritually enlightened being absorbed in the Love of the Lord Waheguru Ji. || 1 || This is what befits the Lord’s servant. ਰਾਜਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਜਾ ਉਰਝਾਇਓ ਮਾਨਨ ਮਹਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ॥
राजन महि राजा उरझाइओ मानन महि अभिमानी ॥
Rājan mėh rājā urjẖā▫i▫o mānan mėh abẖimānī.
As the king is entangled in kingly affairs, and the egotist in his own egotism,
ਲੋਭਨ ਮਹਿ ਲੋਭੀ ਲੋਭਾਇਓ ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਚੇ ਗਿਆਨੀ ॥੧॥
लोभन महि लोभी लोभाइओ तिउ हरि रंगि रचे गिआनी ॥१॥
Lobẖan mėh lobẖī lobẖā▫i▫o ṯi▫o har rang racẖe gi▫ānī. ||1||
and the greedy man is enticed by greed, so is the spiritually enlightened being absorbed in the Love of the Lord. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਇਹੀ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ॥
हरि जन कउ इही सुहावै ॥
Har jan ka▫o ihī suhāvai.
This is what befits the Lord's servant.
ਪੇਖਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨਿ ਹੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਵੈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
पेखि निकटि करि सेवा सतिगुर हरि कीरतनि ही त्रिपतावै ॥ रहाउ ॥
Pekẖ nikat kar sevā saṯgur har kīrṯan hī ṯaripṯāvai. Rahā▫o.
Beholding the Lord near at hand, he serves the True Guru, and he is satisfied through the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises. ||Pause||
ਅਮਲਨ ਸਿਉ ਅਮਲੀ ਲਪਟਾਇਓ ਭੂਮਨ ਭੂਮਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥
अमलन सिउ अमली लपटाइओ भूमन भूमि पिआरी ॥
Amlan si▫o amlī laptā▫i▫o bẖūman bẖūm pi▫ārī.
The addict is addicted to his drug, and the landlord is in love with his land.
ਖੀਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਬਾਰਿਕੁ ਹੈ ਲੀਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੰਤ ਐਸੇ ਹਿਤਕਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
खीर संगि बारिकु है लीना प्रभ संत ऐसे हितकारी ॥२॥
Kẖīr sang bārik hai līnā parabẖ sanṯ aise hiṯkārī. ||2||
As the baby is attached to his milk, so the Saint is in love with God. ||2||
ਬਿਦਿਆ ਮਹਿ ਬਿਦੁਅੰਸੀ ਰਚਿਆ ਨੈਨ ਦੇਖਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥
बिदिआ महि बिदुअंसी रचिआ नैन देखि सुखु पावहि ॥
Biḏi▫ā mėh biḏu▫ansī racẖi▫ā nain ḏekẖ sukẖ pāvahi.
The scholar is absorbed in scholarship, and the eyes are happy to see.
ਜੈਸੇ ਰਸਨਾ ਸਾਦਿ ਲੁਭਾਨੀ ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ॥੩॥
जैसे रसना सादि लुभानी तिउ हरि जन हरि गुण गावहि ॥३॥
Jaise rasnā sāḏ lubẖānī ṯi▫o har jan har guṇ gāvahi. ||3||
As the tongue savors the tastes, so does the humble servant of the Lord sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||3||
ਜੈਸੀ ਭੂਖ ਤੈਸੀ ਕਾ ਪੂਰਕੁ ਸਗਲ ਘਟਾ ਕਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
जैसी भूख तैसी का पूरकु सगल घटा का सुआमी ॥
Jaisī bẖūkẖ ṯaisī kā pūrak sagal gẖatā kā su▫āmī.
As is the hunger, so is the fulfiller; He is the Lord and Master of all hearts.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪਿਆਸ ਲਗੀ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੬॥
नानक पिआस लगी दरसन की प्रभु मिलिआ अंतरजामी ॥४॥५॥१६॥
Nānak pi▫ās lagī ḏarsan kī parabẖ mili▫ā anṯarjāmī. ||4||5||16||
Nanak thirsts for the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan; he has met God, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts. ||4||5||16||
ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ ਰਾਜਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਜਾ ਉਰਝਾਇਓ ਮਾਨਨ ਮਹਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ॥ ਲੋਭਨ ਮਹਿ ਲੋਭੀ ਲੋਭਾਇਓ ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਚੇ ਗਿਆਨੀ ॥੧॥
ਸੋਰਠਿ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ। ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ, ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਧੰਦਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਫਾਬਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ, ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਕ ਲਾਲਚੀ ਬੰਦਾ ਲਾਲਚ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੋਹਿਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਏਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਬੇਤਾ (ਗਿਆਨਵਾਨ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੈ।
ਰਾਜਨ ਮਹਿ = ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ। ਉਰਝਾਇਓ = ਮਗਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮਾਨਨ ਮਹਿ = ਮਾਣ ਵਧਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ। ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ = ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ, ਮਾਣ ਦਾ ਭੁੱਖਾ। ਲੋਭਨ ਮਹਿ = ਲਾਲਚ ਵਧਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਆਹਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ। ਗਿਆਨੀ = ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ।੧।
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰਾਜਾ ਮਗਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮਾਣ ਵਧਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਦਰ-ਮਾਣ ਦਾ ਭੁੱਖਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਲਾਲਚੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਲਾਲਚ ਵਧਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਆਹਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।
ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਇਹੀ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ॥ ਪੇਖਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨਿ ਹੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਵੈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਇਹੋ ਕੁੱਛ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੋਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਫਬਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਾਈਂ ਨੂੰ ਨੇੜੇ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾ ਨਾਲ ਅਨੰਦ-ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
ਸੁਹਾਵੈ = ਸੁਖਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਪੇਖਿ = ਵੇਖ ਕੇ। ਨਿਕਟਿ = ਨੇੜੇ, ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ। ਕੀਰਤਨਿ = ਕੀਰਤਨ ਵਿਚ। ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਵੈ = ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।ਰਹਾਉ।
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਇਹੀ ਕਾਰ ਚੰਗੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ। (ਭਗਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ) ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ, ਤੇ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।ਰਹਾਉ।
ਅਮਲਨ ਸਿਉ ਅਮਲੀ ਲਪਟਾਇਓ ਭੂਮਨ ਭੂਮਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥ ਖੀਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਬਾਰਿਕੁ ਹੈ ਲੀਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੰਤ ਐਸੇ ਹਿਤਕਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
ਇਕ ਨਸ਼ਈ, ਨਸ਼ੀਲੀਆਂ ਵਾਸਤੂਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ਿਮੀਦਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਹੈ। ਦੁੱਧ ਨਾਲ ਬਾਲਕ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਏਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਸਾਧੂ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਆਸ਼ਕ।
ਅਮਲਨ ਸਿਉ = ਨਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ। ਅਮਲੀ = ਨਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੀ। ਭੂਮਨ = ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ। ਭੂਮਿ = ਜ਼ਮੀਨ। ਖੀਰ = ਦੁੱਧ। ਬਾਰਿਕੁ = ਬੱਚਾ। ਹਿਤਕਾਰੀ = ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ।੨।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਨਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਚੰਬੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ, ਬੱਚਾ ਦੁੱਧ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।੨।
ਬਿਦਿਆ ਮਹਿ ਬਿਦੁਅੰਸੀ ਰਚਿਆ ਨੈਨ ਦੇਖਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥ ਜੈਸੇ ਰਸਨਾ ਸਾਦਿ ਲੁਭਾਨੀ ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ॥੩॥
ਇਲਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਸਮਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਅੱਖੀਆਂ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜੀਭ੍ਹ ਸੁਆਦਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੁਭਾਇਮਾਨ ਹੈ, ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੀਬਰ ਰੁਚੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਦੁਅੰਸੀ = ਵਿਦਵਾਨ। ਰਚਿਆ = ਮਸਤ। ਨੈਨ = ਅੱਖਾਂ। ਦੇਖਿ = ਵੇਖ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ। ਸਾਦਿ = ਸੁਆਦਿ ਵਿਚ। ਲੁਭਾਨੀ = ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।੩।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਿੱਦਿਆ (ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਪੜਾਣ) ਵਿਚ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅੱਖਾਂ (ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਵੇਖ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਜੀਭ (ਸੁਆਦਲੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸੁਆਦ (ਚੱਖਣ) ਵਿਚ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।੩।
ਜੈਸੀ ਭੂਖ ਤੈਸੀ ਕਾ ਪੂਰਕੁ ਸਗਲ ਘਟਾ ਕਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਿਆਸ ਲਗੀ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੬॥
ਜੇਹੋ ਜੇਹੀ ਖੁਦਿਆ (ਖਾਹਿਸ਼) ਹੈ, ਉਹੋ ਜੇਹੀ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ। ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰੇਹ (ਖਿੱਚ) ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਜਾਨਣਹਾਰ ਮਾਲਕ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਭੂਖ = ਲੋੜ, ਲਾਲਸਾ। ਪੂਰਕੁ = ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ। ਘਟ = ਸਰੀਰ। ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ = ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ।੪।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਰੇ ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਜੀਵ ਦੀ ਲਾਲਸਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਹੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਆਪ) ਆ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।੪।੫।੧੬।
