Man rām nām kar āsā.
O mortal, place your hopes in the Name of the Lord,
ਭਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਬਿਨਾਸਾ ॥
भाउ दूजा बिनसि बिनासा ॥
Bẖā▫o ḏūjā binas bināsā.
and your love of duality shall simply vanish.
ਵਿਚਿ ਆਸਾ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਰਾਸੀ ॥
विचि आसा होइ निरासी ॥
vicẖ āsā ho▫e nirāsī.
One who, in hope, remains unattached to hope,
ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਸੀ ॥
सो जनु मिलिआ हरि पासी ॥
So jan mili▫ā har pāsī.
such a humble being meets with his Lord.

कोई राम नाम गुन गावनो ॥

ਪੜਤਾਲ = {पटहताल। पटह = ਪਟਹ, ਢੋਲ} ਉਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਭਰਵਾਂ ਤਾਲ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਢੋਲ ਉਤੇ ਡਗੇ ਨਾਲ ਚੋਟ ਲਾਈਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਰਾਗ ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ, ਘਰ ੧੩ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ 'ਪੜਤਾਲ'।

ਹੇ ਵੀਰ! ਤੂੰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰ ਜੋ ਪਾਪੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਈਆ = ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਤਿਤ = ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਡਿੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ, ਵਿਕਾਰੀ। ਪਾਵਨੋ = ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ, ਜੋ ਵਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਬਣਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤ ਭਗਤ ਤਾਰਨੋ ॥

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਲੂਆਂ ਦਾ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਾਰਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਾਰਨੋ = ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ।
ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਿ ਭਰਿਪੁਰੇ ਰਹਿਆ ॥
Har bẖaripure rahi▫ā.
ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਰੀਪੂਰਨ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਰਿਪੁਰੇ = ਭਰਪੂਰ, ਨਕਾਨਕ, ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ।
ਜੋ (ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ।
ਜਲਿ ਥਲੇ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
Jal thale rām nām.
ਸਾਈਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ।
ਜਲਿ = ਜਲ ਵਿਚ। ਥਲੇ = ਥਲਿ, ਥਲ ਵਿਚ।
ਜੋ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ,
ਨਿਤ ਗਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਦੂਖ ਬਿਸਾਰਨੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰ, ਜੋ ਦੁੱਖੜੇ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
ਦੂਖ ਬਿਸਾਰਨੋ = ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ॥੧॥
ਜੋ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਸਦਾ ਗਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਹਰਿ ਕੀਆ ਹੈ ਸਫਲ ਜਨਮੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥

ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਫਲਦਾਇਕ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਫਲ = ਕਾਮਯਾਬ।
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਦੂਖ ਬਿਸਾਰਨਹਾਰਾ ॥

(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਿਆ ਹਾਂ, ਜੋ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।

ਮੈਂ ਮੌਖਸ਼ਸ਼ ਦੇਣਹਾਰ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹਾਂ।
ਭੇਟਿਆ = ਮਿਲਿਆ। ਮੁਕਤਿ ਦਾਤਾ = (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ। ਕੀਈ = ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਿਵਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ,
ਹਰਿ ਕੀਈ ਹਮਾਰੀ ਸਫਲ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
Har kī▫ī hamārī safal jāṯā.
ਸਾਈਂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਯਾਤ੍ਰਾ ਲਾਭਦਾਇਕ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਜਾਤਾ = ਜਾਤ੍ਰਾ, ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਜਾਤ੍ਰਾ, ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਣਾ।
(ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜਾਤ੍ਰਾ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਗਤੀ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਨੋ ॥੧॥
Mil sangṯī gun gāvno. ||1||
ਸਤਿ ਸੰਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਮਿਲਿ = ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ॥੧॥
(ਹੁਣ) ਮੈਂ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥

ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਉਤੇ ਹੀ ਡੋਰੀ ਰੱਖ,
ਭਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਬਿਨਾਸਾ ॥
Bẖā▫o ḏūjā binas bināsā.
ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੋਰਸ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ।
ਭਾਉ = ਪਿਆਰ। ਭਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ = ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ।
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਨ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ (ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮੁਕਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਵਿਚਿ ਆਸਾ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਰਾਸੀ ॥
vicẖ āsā ho▫e nirāsī.
ਜੋ ਉਮੈਦ ਅੰਦਰ ਬੇ-ਉਮੈਦ ਵਿਚਰਦਾ ਹੈ;

ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ-ਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਸੀ ॥
So jan mili▫ā har pāsī.
ਉਹ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੋ ਜਨੁ = ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ। ਪਾਸੀ = ਪਾਸਿ, ਨੇੜੇ, ਨਾਲ।
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
