Sing the Glorious Praises of the Perfect, Imperishable Lord, and the poison of sexual desire and anger shall be burnt away. You shall cross over the awesome, arduous ocean of fire, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. || 1 || The Perfect Guru has dispelled the darkness of doubt. Remember God with love and devotion; He is near at hand. || Pause || Drink in the sublime essence, the treasure of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, and your mind and body shall remain satisfied. The Transcendent Lord is totally permeating and pervading everywhere; where would He come from, and where would He go? || 2 || One whose mind is filled with the Lord, is a person of meditation, penance, self-restraint and spiritual wisdom, and a knower of reality. The Gurmukh obtains the jewel of the Naam; his efforts come to perfect fruition. || 3 || All his struggles, sufferings and pains are dispelled, and the noose of death is cut away from him. ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਬਿਖੁ ਜਾਰੇ ॥
गुण गावहु पूरन अबिनासी काम क्रोध बिखु जारे ॥
Guṇ gāvhu pūran abẖināsī kām kroḏẖ bikẖ jāre.

ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਅਗਨਿ ਕੋ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਉਧਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
महा बिखमु अगनि को सागरु साधू संगि उधारे ॥१॥
Mahā bikẖam agan ko sāgar sāḏẖū sang uḏẖāre. ||1||

ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਟਿਓ ਭਰਮੁ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ॥
पूरै गुरि मेटिओ भरमु अंधेरा ॥
Pūrai gur meti▫o bẖaram anḏẖerā.
The Perfect Guru has dispelled the darkness of doubt.
ਭਜੁ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨੇਰਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
भजु प्रेम भगति प्रभु नेरा ॥ रहाउ ॥
Bẖaj parem bẖagaṯ parabẖ nerā. Rahā▫o.
Remember God with love and devotion; He is near at hand. ||Pause||
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਆ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਰਹੇ ਅਘਾਈ ॥
हरि हरि नामु निधान रसु पीआ मन तन रहे अघाई ॥
Har har nām niḏẖān ras pī▫ā man ṯan rahe agẖā▫ī.
Drink in the sublime essence, the treasure of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, and your mind and body shall remain satisfied.
ਜਤ ਕਤ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਕਤ ਆਵੈ ਕਤ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥
जत कत पूरि रहिओ परमेसरु कत आवै कत जाई ॥२॥
Jaṯ kaṯ pūr rahi▫o parmesar kaṯ āvai kaṯ jā▫ī. ||2||
The Transcendent Lord is totally permeating and pervading everywhere; where would He come from, and where would He go? ||2||
ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਗਿਆਨ ਤਤ ਬੇਤਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਗਪਾਲਾ ॥
जप तप संजम गिआन तत बेता जिसु मनि वसै गोपाला ॥
Jap ṯap sanjam gi▫ān ṯaṯ beṯā jis man vasai gopālā.
One whose mind is filled with the Lord, is a person of meditation, penance, self-restraint and spiritual wisdom, and a knower of reality.
ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਘਾਲਾ ॥੩॥
नामु रतनु जिनि गुरमुखि पाइआ ता की पूरन घाला ॥३॥
Nām raṯan jin gurmukẖ pā▫i▫ā ṯā kī pūran gẖālā. ||3||
The Gurmukh obtains the jewel of the Naam; his efforts come to perfect fruition. ||3||
ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਮਿਟੇ ਦੁਖ ਸਗਲੇ ਕਾਟੀ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸਾ ॥
कलि कलेस मिटे दुख सगले काटी जम की फासा ॥
Kal kales mite ḏukẖ sagle kātī jam kī fāsā.
All his struggles, sufferings and pains are dispelled, and the noose of death is cut away from him.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਭਏ ਬਿਗਾਸਾ ॥੪॥੧੨॥੨੩॥
कहु नानक प्रभि किरपा धारी मन तन भए बिगासा ॥४॥१२॥२३॥
Kaho Nānak parabẖ kirpā ḏẖārī man ṯan bẖa▫e bigāsā. ||4||12||23||
Says Nanak, God has extended His Mercy, and so his mind and body blossom forth. ||4||12||23||

ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਬਿਖੁ ਜਾਰੇ ॥ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਅਗਨਿ ਕੋ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਉਧਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
ਸੋਰਠਿ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ। ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਅਤੇ ਅਮਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ-ਭੋਗ ਅਤੇ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਸੜ ਜਾਵੇ। ਸਤਿਸੰਗਤ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਅੱਗ ਦਾ ਪਰਮ ਕਠਨ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਪਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਖੁ = ਜ਼ਹਰ। ਜਾਰੇ = ਸਾੜ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਬਿਖਮੁ = ਔਖਾ। ਕੋ = ਦਾ। ਅਗਨਿ ਕੋ ਸਾਗਰੁ = ਅੱਗ ਦਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ। ਸੰਗਿ = ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ। ਉਧਾਰੇ = ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਨਾਸ-ਰਹਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰ। (ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ) ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ (ਆਦਿਕ ਦੀ) ਜ਼ਹਰ ਸਾੜ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਅੱਗ ਦਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ (ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣਾ) ਬਹੁਤ ਕਠਨ ਹੈ (ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਰੱਖ ਕੇ, ਇਸ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।
ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਟਿਓ ਭਰਮੁ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ॥ ਭਜੁ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨੇਰਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਵਹਿਮ ਦਾ ਅਨ੍ਹੇਰਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਪਿਆਰ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਰਧਾ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ, ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਹੈ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
ਗੁਰਿ = ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ। ਭਰਮੁ = ਭਟਕਣ। ਅੰਧੇਰਾ = (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ) ਹਨੇਰਾ। ਭਜੁ = ਸਿਮਰ। ਨੇਰਾ = ਨੇੜੇ, ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ।ਰਹਾਉ।
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਉ। ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਭਰਮ ਮਿਟਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ, (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ) ਹਨੇਰਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਭਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ, (ਤੈਨੂੰ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ (ਦਿੱਸ ਪਏਗਾ)।ਰਹਾਉ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਆ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਰਹੇ ਅਘਾਈ ॥ ਜਤ ਕਤ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਕਤ ਆਵੈ ਕਤ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥
ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੇ ਖਜਾਨੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਆਤਮਾ ਤੇ ਦੇਹ ਰੱਜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਸ਼ਰੋਮਣੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਪਰੀਪੂਰਨ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਨਾਂ ਕਿਤੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਕਿਤੋਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ?
ਨਿਧਾਨ = ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ। ਰਹੇ ਅਘਾਈ = ਰੱਜ ਗਏ, ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤ ਹੋ ਗਏ। ਜਤ ਕਤ = ਜਿੱਥੇ ਕਿੱਥੇ, ਹਰ ਥਾਂ।੨।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਸਾਰੇ ਰਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਇਸ) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਤਨ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਰਸਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਫਿਰ ਨਾਹ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ।੨।
ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਗਿਆਨ ਤਤ ਬੇਤਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਗਪਾਲਾ ॥ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਘਾਲਾ ॥੩॥
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਰਿਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਿਮਰਨ, ਤਪੱਸਿਆ, ਸਵੈ-ਜਬਤ ਅਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ-ਬੇਧ ਵਾਲਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਸਫਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਹੀਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬੇਤਾ = ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ। ਤਤ ਬੇਤਾ = ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਦਾ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ। ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨਿ = ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ। ਗਪਾਲਾ = {ਅੱਖਰ 'ਗ' ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਦੋ ਲਗਾਂ ਹਨ: ੋ, ਅਤੇ ੁ। ਅਸਲ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਗੋਪਾਲਾ' ਹੈ, ਇਥੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ 'ਗੁਪਾਲਾ' ਪੜ੍ਹਨਾ ਹੈ}। ਜਿਨਿ = ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ। ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ = ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ। ਘਾਲਾ = ਮੇਹਨਤ।੩।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਰਤਨ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ, ਉਸ ਦੀ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੀ) ਮੇਹਨਤ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਹੋ ਗਈ। (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਪਾਲਣ-ਹਾਰ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਸਲੀ ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਦਾ ਭੇਤ ਸਮਝਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਤਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੩।
ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਮਿਟੇ ਦੁਖ ਸਗਲੇ ਕਾਟੀ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸਾ ॥ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਭਏ ਬਿਗਾਸਾ ॥੪॥੧੨॥੨੩॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਝਗੜੇ, ਤਕਲੀਫਾਂ ਤੇ ਦਰਦਾਂ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਕੱਟੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਾਹਿਬ ਉਸ ਉਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਹਿਮਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਤੇ ਦੇਹ ਪ੍ਰਫੁਲਤ ਹੋ ਵੰਞਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਕਲਿ = ਝਗੜੇ। ਸਗਲੇ = ਸਾਰੇ। ਫਾਸਾ = ਫਾਹੀ। ਪ੍ਰਭਿ = ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ। ਬਿਗਾਸਾ = ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ।੪।
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ-ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕੀਤੀ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਤੇ) ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਤਨ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਫੁਲਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਜਮਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਕੱਟੀ ਗਈ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗਲੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਕੱਟੀ ਗਈ ਜੋ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆ ਕੇ ਜਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਪਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ), ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ।੪।੧੨।੨੩।
