O Nanak, the blind, ignorant fools do not remember the Naam, the Name of the Lord; they involve themselves in other activities. They are bound and gagged at the door of the Messenger of Death; they are punished, and in the end, they rot away in manure. || 1 || THIRD MEHL: O Nanak, those humble beings are true and approved, who serve their True Guru. They remain absorbed in the Name of the Lord, and their comings and goings cease. || 2 || PAUREE: Gathering the wealth and property of Maya, brings only pain in the end. Homes, mansions and adorned palaces will not go with anyone. He may breed horses of various colors, but these will not be of any use to him. O human, link your consciousness to the Lord’s Name, and in the end, it shall be your companion and helper. Servant Nanak meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord; the Gurmukh is blessed with peace. || 15 ||

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਨੀ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਅਵਰੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥
नानक नामु न चेतनी अगिआनी अंधुले अवरे करम कमाहि ॥
Nānak nām na cẖeṯnī agi▫ānī anḏẖule avre karam kamāhi.
O Nanak, the blind, ignorant fools do not remember the Naam, the Name of the Lord; they involve themselves in other activities.
ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਬਧੇ ਮਾਰੀਅਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਵਿਸਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਪਚਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
जम दरि बधे मारीअहि फिरि विसटा माहि पचाहि ॥१॥
Jam ḏar baḏẖe mārī▫ah fir vistā māhi pacẖāhi. ||1||

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਚੇ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
नानक सतिगुरु सेवहि आपणा से जन सचे परवाणु ॥
Nānak saṯgur sevėh āpṇā se jan sacẖe parvāṇ.
O Nanak, those humble beings are true and approved, who serve their True Guru.
ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਇ ਸਮਾਇ ਰਹੇ ਚੂਕਾ ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੨॥
हरि कै नाइ समाइ रहे चूका आवणु जाणु ॥२॥
Har kai nā▫e samā▫e rahe cẖūkā āvaṇ jāṇ. ||2||
They remain absorbed in the Name of the Lord, and their comings and goings cease. ||2||

ਧਨੁ ਸੰਪੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਸੰਚੀਐ ਅੰਤੇ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ॥
धनु स्मपै माइआ संचीऐ अंते दुखदाई ॥
Ḏẖan sampai mā▫i▫ā sancẖī▫ai anṯe ḏukẖ▫ḏā▫ī.
Gathering the wealth and property of Maya, brings only pain in the end.
ਘਰ ਮੰਦਰ ਮਹਲ ਸਵਾਰੀਅਹਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
घर मंदर महल सवारीअहि किछु साथि न जाई ॥
Gẖar manḏar mahal savārī▫ah kicẖẖ sāth na jā▫ī.
Homes, mansions and adorned palaces will not go with anyone.
ਹਰ ਰੰਗੀ ਤੁਰੇ ਨਿਤ ਪਾਲੀਅਹਿ ਕਿਤੈ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਈ ॥
हर रंगी तुरे नित पालीअहि कितै कामि न आई ॥
Har rangī ṯure niṯ pālī▫ah kiṯai kām na ā▫ī.
He may breed horses of various colors, but these will not be of any use to him.
ਜਨ ਲਾਵਹੁ ਚਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਉ ਅੰਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਸਖਾਈ ॥
जन लावहु चितु हरि नाम सिउ अंति होइ सखाई ॥
Jan lāvhu cẖiṯ har nām si▫o anṯ ho▫e sakẖā▫ī.
O human, link your consciousness to the Lord's Name, and in the end, it shall be your companion and helper.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੧੫॥
जन नानक नामु धिआइआ गुरमुखि सुखु पाई ॥१५॥
Jan Nānak nām ḏẖi▫ā▫i▫ā gurmukẖ sukẖ pā▫ī. ||15||
Servant Nanak meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord; the Gurmukh is blessed with peace. ||15||

ਸਲੋਕ ਤੀਜੀ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ। ਨਾਨਕ, ਬੇਸਮਝ, ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਕੰਮ ਕਾਜ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਦੂਤ ਦੇ ਬੂਹੇ ਤੇ ਬੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਹੋਏ ਉਹ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਗੰਦਗੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਸਿੱਟਾ ਇਹ ਨਿਕਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿ) ਜਮ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਬੱਧੇ ਮਾਰ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਫਿਰ (ਵਿਕਾਰ-ਰੂਪ) ਵਿਸ਼ਟੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੜਦੇ ਹਨ।੧।

ਤੀਜੀ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ। ਨਾਨਕ, ਸੱਚੇ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਣੀਕ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਪੁਰਸ਼, ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਘਾਲ ਕਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਲੀਨ ਹੋਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਜਨਮ ਤੇ ਮਰਨ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਇ = ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ।੨।
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੱਚੇ ਤੇ ਕਬੂਲ ਹਨ; ਉਹ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੰਮਣਾ ਮਰਣਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੨।
ਪਉੜੀ ॥ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਪੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਸੰਚੀਐ ਅੰਤੇ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ॥ ਘਰ ਮੰਦਰ ਮਹਲ ਸਵਾਰੀਅਹਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ ਹਰ ਰੰਗੀ ਤੁਰੇ ਨਿਤ ਪਾਲੀਅਹਿ ਕਿਤੈ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਈ ॥ ਜਨ ਲਾਵਹੁ ਚਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਉ ਅੰਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਸਖਾਈ ॥ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੧੫॥
ਪਉੜੀ। ਦੌਲਤ, ਜਾਇਦਾਦ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਲ-ਮਿਲਖ ਦਾ ਇਕੱਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਨਾ ਅਖੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਤਕਲੀਫ-ਦਿਹ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸ਼ਿੰਗਾਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਕਾਨ, ਰਾਜਭਵਨ ਅਤੇ ਮਹਿਲ-ਮਾੜੀਆਂ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ। ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ, ਸਦਾ, ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਰੰਗਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਘੋੜੇ ਹੀ ਪਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੇ। ਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜ ਅਤੇ ਅਖੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਹਾਇਕ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਸਕਦਾ, ਗੋਲੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਰਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਸੰਪੈ = ਦੌਲਤ। ਸੰਚੀਐ = ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਵਾਰੀਅਹਿ = ਬਣਾਈਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹਰ ਰੰਗੀ = ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ।੧੫।
ਧਨ, ਦੌਲਤ ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਇਕੱਠੀ ਕਰੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਅਖ਼ੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ; ਘਰ, ਮੰਦਰ ਤੇ ਮਹਿਲ ਬਣਾਈਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਕੁਝ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ; ਕਈ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਘੋੜੇ ਸਦਾ ਪਾਲੀਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੇ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ਸੱਜਣੋ! ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜੋ, ਜੋ ਅਖ਼ੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਥੀ ਬਣੇ। ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੧੫।
