ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਤੂੰ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਹਿ ਤੇ ਪਾਹੁਨ ਦੋ ਦਾਹਾ ॥
जिस नो तूं असथिरु करि मानहि ते पाहुन दो दाहा ॥
Jis no ṯūʼn asthir kar mānėh ṯe pāhun ḏo ḏāhā.

पुत्र कलत्र ग्रिह सगल समग्री सभ मिथिआ असनाहा ॥१॥
Puṯar kalṯar garih sagal samagrī sabẖ mithi▫ā asnāhā. ||1||

रे मन किआ करहि है हा हा ॥

O mind, why do you burst out laughing?
ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਦੇਖੁ ਜੈਸੇ ਹਰਿਚੰਦਉਰੀ ਇਕੁ ਰਾਮ ਭਜਨੁ ਲੈ ਲਾਹਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
द्रिसटि देखु जैसे हरिचंदउरी इकु राम भजनु लै लाहा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Ḏarisat ḏekẖ jaise haricẖanḏ▫urī ik rām bẖajan lai lāhā. ||1|| rahā▫o.
See with your eyes, that these things are only mirages. So earn the profit of meditation on the One Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਜੈਸੇ ਬਸਤਰ ਦੇਹ ਓਢਾਨੇ ਦਿਨ ਦੋਇ ਚਾਰਿ ਭੋਰਾਹਾ ॥
जैसे बसतर देह ओढाने दिन दोइ चारि भोराहा ॥
Jaise basṯar ḏeh odẖāne ḏin ḏo▫e cẖār bẖorāhā.
It is like the clothes which you wear on your body - they wear off in a few days.
ਭੀਤਿ ਊਪਰੇ ਕੇਤਕੁ ਧਾਈਐ ਅੰਤਿ ਓਰਕੋ ਆਹਾ ॥੨॥
भीति ऊपरे केतकु धाईऐ अंति ओरको आहा ॥२॥
Bẖīṯ ūpre keṯak ḏẖā▫ī▫ai anṯ orko āhā. ||2||
How long can you run upon a wall? Ultimately, you come to its end. ||2||
ਜੈਸੇ ਅੰਭ ਕੁੰਡ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਓ ਪਰਤ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਗਲਿ ਜਾਹਾ ॥
जैसे अम्भ कुंड करि राखिओ परत सिंधु गलि जाहा ॥
Jaise ambẖ kund kar rākẖi▫o paraṯ sinḏẖ gal jāhā.
It is like salt, preserved in its container; when it is put into water, it dissolves.
ਆਵਗਿ ਆਗਿਆ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੀ ਉਠਿ ਜਾਸੀ ਮੁਹਤ ਚਸਾਹਾ ॥੩॥
आवगि आगिआ पारब्रहम की उठि जासी मुहत चसाहा ॥३॥
Āvag āgi▫ā pārbarahm kī uṯẖ jāsī muhaṯ cẖasāhā. ||3||
When the Order of the Supreme Lord God comes, the soul arises, and departs in an instant. ||3||
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਲੇਖੈ ਚਾਲਹਿ ਲੇਖੈ ਬੈਸਹਿ ਲੇਖੈ ਲੈਦਾ ਸਾਹਾ ॥
रे मन लेखै चालहि लेखै बैसहि लेखै लैदा साहा ॥
Re man lekẖai cẖālėh lekẖai baisėh lekẖai laiḏā sāhā.
O mind, your steps are numbered, your moments spent sitting are numbered, and the breaths you are to take are numbered.
ਸਦਾ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਉਬਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਚਰਣ ਓਟਾਹਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੨੩॥
सदा कीरति करि नानक हरि की उबरे सतिगुर चरण ओटाहा ॥४॥१॥१२३॥

ਰਾਗ ਆਸਾ, ਘਰ ੧੦ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ।
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਤੂੰ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਹਿ ਤੇ ਪਾਹੁਨ ਦੋ ਦਾਹਾ ॥

ਦੇਹਿ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਮੁਸਤਕਿਲ ਕਰਕੇ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਕੇਵਲ ਦੋ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਰੋਹਨੀ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ = {ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਜਿਸ' ਦਾ ੁ ਸੰਬੰਧਕ 'ਨੋ' ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਉੱਡ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ}। ਅਸਥਿਰੁ = {स्थिर} ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ। ਮਾਨਹਿ = ਤੂੰ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈਂ। ਤੇ = ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ। ਪਾਹੁਨ = ਪ੍ਰਾਹੁਣੇ। ਦਾਹਾ = ਦਿਨ।
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜਿਸ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਸ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਸ ਘਰੋਗੇ ਸਾਮਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮੰਨੀ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੈਂ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਦੋ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਹੁਣੇ ਹਨ।

ਬੱਚੇ, ਵਹੁਟੀ, ਘਰ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਮੂਹ ਸਾਮਾਨ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਚੀਜਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੁਹੱਬਤ ਝੁਠੀ ਹੈ।
ਕਲਤ੍ਰ = ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ। ਸਗਲ ਸਮਗ੍ਰੀ = ਸਾਰਾ ਸਾਮਾਨ। ਮਿਥਿਆ = ਝੂਠਾ। ਅਸਨਾਹਾ = ਅਸਨੇਹ, ਪਿਆਰ ॥੧॥
ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ, ਘਰ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਸਾਮਾਨ-ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੋਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਝੂਠਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਹੈ ਹਾ ਹਾ ॥

ਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਖਿੜਖਿੜ ਹਸਦਾ ਹੈ?
ਹੈ ਹਾ ਹਾ = ਆਹਾ, ਆਹਾ।
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! (ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਕੀਹ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਮਨਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ) ਕੀਹ ਆਹਾ ਆਹਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ? ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਧੂੰਏਂ ਦੇ ਪਹਾੜ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੈ।

ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖ, ਕਿ ਇਹ ਚੀਜ਼ਾ ਜਾਦੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੀ ਮਾਨਿੰਦ ਹਨ, ਤੂੰ ਇਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਲਾਭ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ। ਠਹਿਰਾਉ।
ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ = ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ। ਹਰਿ ਚੰਦਉਰੀ = ਹਰੀ-ਚੰਦ-ਪੁਰੀ, ਹਰਿਚੰਦ ਦੀ ਨਗਰੀ, ਗੰਧਰਬ ਨਗਰੀ, ਠੱਗ-ਨਗਰੀ, ਧੂੰਏਂ ਦਾ ਪਹਾੜ। ਲਾਹਾ = ਲਾਭ ॥੧॥
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ, ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਹੀ (ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ) ਲਾਭ (ਖੱਟਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ॥

ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਉਤੇ ਪਹਿਨੇ ਹੋਏ ਕਪੜੇ ਦੋ ਚਾਰ ਦਿਹਾੜਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਭੁਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਏਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਸਰੀਰ ਹੈ।
ਬਸਤਰ = ਕੱਪੜੇ। ਓਢਾਨੇ = ਪਹਿਨੇ ਹੋਏ। ਭੋਰਾਹਾ = ਭੁਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹੇ ਮਨ! (ਇਹ ਜਗਤ-ਪਸਾਰਾ ਇਉਂ ਹੀ ਹੈ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸਰੀਰ ਉਤੇ ਪਹਿਨੇ ਹੋਏ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਦੋ ਚਾਰ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਭੀਤਿ ਊਪਰੇ ਕੇਤਕੁ ਧਾਈਐ ਅੰਤਿ ਓਰਕੋ ਆਹਾ ॥੨॥

ਕਿੰਨੇ ਚਿਰ ਤਾਈ ਆਦਮੀ ਕੰਧ ਉਤੇ ਭੱਜ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਛੇਕੜ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਅਖੀਰ ਤੇ ਪੁਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭੀਤਿ = ਕੰਧ। ਊਪਰੇ = ਉੱਤੇ। ਕੇਤਕੁ = ਕਿਤਨਾ ਕੁ। ਧਾਈਐ = ਦੌੜ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅੰਤਿ = ਆਖ਼ਿਰ। ਓਰਕੋ = ਓਰਕੁ, ਓੜਕੁ, ਅਖ਼ੀਰਲਾ ਸਿਰਾ। ਆਹਾ = ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਕੰਧ ਉਤੇ ਕਿਥੋਂ ਤਕ ਦੌੜ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ? ਆਖ਼ਰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਅਖ਼ੀਰਲਾ ਸਿਰਾ ਆ ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਗਿਣੇ-ਮਿਥੇ ਸੁਆਸ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਮੁੱਕ ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ॥੨॥
ਜੈਸੇ ਅੰਭ ਕੁੰਡ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਓ ਪਰਤ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਗਲਿ ਜਾਹਾ ॥

ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਚੁਬੱਚੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਖੇ ਹੋਏ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਡਿਗ ਕੇ ਲੁਣ ਖੁਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਏਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਦੇਹਿ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਭ = {अभ्भस्} ਪਾਣੀ। ਕੁੰਡ = ਹੌਜ਼। ਪਰਤ = ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੀ। ਸਿੰਧੁ = ਲੂਣ।
ਹੇ ਮਨ! (ਇਹ ਉਮਰ ਇਉਂ ਹੀ ਹੈ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਹੌਜ਼ਾ ਬਣਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤੇ ਲੂਣ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਂਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਗਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਜਦ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਇਕ ਲੰਮ੍ਹੇ ਤੇ ਛਿੰਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਭਉਰ ਖੜਾ ਹੋ ਤੁਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਵਗਿ = ਆਵੇਗੀ। ਜਾਸੀ = ਚਲਾ ਜਾਇਗਾ। ਮੁਹਤ = ਮਹੂਰਤ, ਦੋ ਘੜੀਆਂ। ਚਸਾ = ਪਲ ਦਾ ਤੀਜਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ॥੩॥
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜਦੋਂ (ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ (ਸੱਦਾ) ਆਵੇਗਾ, ਉਹ ਉਸੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਠ ਕੇ ਤੁਰ ਪਏਗਾ ॥੩॥

ਲੇਖੈ = ਲੇਖੇ ਵਿਚ, ਗਿਣੇ-ਮਿਥੇ ਸੁਆਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ। ਚਾਲਹਿ = ਤੂੰ ਚੱਲਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਗਿਣੇ-ਮਿਥੇ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੁਆਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਿਆ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈਂ (ਗਿਣੇ-ਮਿਥੇ) ਲੇਖੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਹ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, (ਇਹ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਣੇ ਹਨ)।

ਕੀਰਤਿ = ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ। ਉਬਰੇ = ਬਚ ਗਏ। ਓਟਾਹਾ = ਆਸਰਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੨੩॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ। ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ) ਉਹ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਣੋਂ) ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੨੩॥
