O my beloved friend, dedicate yourself to the devotional worship of your Husband Lord. Serve your Guru constantly, and obtain the wealth of the Naam. Dedicate yourself to the worship of your Husband Lord; this is pleasing to your Beloved Husband. If you walk in accordance with your own will, then your Husband Lord will not be pleased with you. This path of loving devotional worship is very difficult; how rare are those who find it, through the Gurdwara, the Guru’s Gate. Says Nanak, that one, upon whom the Lord casts His Glance of Grace, links his consciousness to the worship of the Lord. || 1 || O my detached mind, unto whom do you show your detachment? Those who sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord live in the joy of the Lord, forever and ever. So become detached, and renounce hypocrisy; Your Husband Lord knows everything. The One Lord is pervading the water, the land and the sky; the Gurmukh realizes the Command of His Will. One who realizes the Lord’s Command, obtains all peace and comforts. Thus says Nanak: such a detached soul remains absorbed in the Lord’s Love, day and night. || 2 || Wherever you wander, O my mind, the Lord is there with you. Renounce your cleverness, O my mind, and reflect upon the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. Your Husband Lord is always with you, if you remember the Lord’s Name, even for an instant. The sinful residues of countless incarnations shall be washed away, and in the end, you shall obtain the supreme status. You shall be linked to the True Lord, and as Gurmukh, remember Him forever. Thus says Nanak: wherever you go, O my mind, the Lord is there with you. || 3 || Meeting the True Guru, the wandering mind is held steady; it comes to abide in its own home. It purchases the Naam, chants the Naam, and remains absorbed in the Naam. The outgoing, wandering soul, upon meeting the True Guru, opens the Tenth Gate. There, Ambrosial Nectar is food and the celestial music resounds; the world is held spell-bound by the music of the Word. The many strains of the unstruck melody resound there, as one merges in Truth. Thus says Nanak: by meeting the True Guru, the wandering soul becomes steady, and comes to dwell in the home of its own self. || 4 || O my mind, you are the embodiment of the Divine Light — recognize your own origin. O my mind, the Dear Lord is with you; through the Guru’s Teachings, enjoy His Love. Acknowledge your origin, and then you shall know your Husband Lord, and so understand death and birth. By Guru’s Grace, know the One; then, you shall not love any other. Peace comes to the mind, and gladness resounds; then, you shall be acclaimed. Thus says Nanak: O my mind, you are the very image of the Luminous Lord; recognize the true origin of your self. || 5 || O mind, you are so full of pride; loaded with pride, you shall depart. The fascinating Maya has fascinated you, over and over again, and lured you into reincarnation. Clinging to pride, you shall depart, O foolish mind, and in the end, you shall regret and repent. You are afflicted with the diseases of ego and desire, and you are wasting your life away in vain. The foolish self-willed manmukh does not remember the Lord, and shall regret and repent hereafter. Thus says Nanak: O mind, you are full of pride; loaded with pride, you shall depart. || 6 || O mind, don’t be so proud of yourself, as if you know it all; the Gurmukh is humble and modest. Within the intellect are ignorance and ego; through the True Word of the Shabad, this filth is washed off. So be humble, and surrender to the True Guru; do not attach your identity to your ego. The world is consumed by ego and self-identity; see this, lest you lose your own self as well. Make yourself follow the Sweet Will of the True Guru; remain attached to His Sweet Will. Thus says Nanak: renounce your ego and self-conceit, and obtain peace; let your mind abide in humility. || 7 || Blessed is that time, when I met the True Guru, and my Husband Lord came into my consciousness. I became so very blissful, and my mind and body found such a natural peace. My Husband Lord came into my consciousness; I enshrined Him within my mind, and I renounced all vice. When it pleased Him, virtues appeared in me, and the True Guru Himself adorned me. Those humble beings become acceptable, who cling to the One Name and renounce the love of duality. Thus says Nanak: blessed is the time when I met the True Guru, and my Husband Lord came into my consciousness. || 8 || Some people wander around, deluded by doubt; their Husband Lord Himself has misled them. They wander around in the love of duality, and they do their deeds in ego. Their Husband Lord Himself has misled them, and put them on the path of evil. Nothing lies in their power. You alone know their ups and downs, You, who created the creation. The Command of Your Will is very strict; how rare is the Gurmukh who understands. Thus says Nanak: what can the poor creatures do, when You mislead them into doubt? || 9 || O My True Lord Master, True is Your glorious greatness. You are the Supreme Lord God, the Infinite Lord and Master. Your creative power cannot be described. True is Your glorious greatness; when You enshrine it within the mind, one sings Your Glorious Praises forever. He sings Your Glorious Praises, when it is pleasing to You, O True Lord; he centers his consciousness on You. One whom You unite with Yourself, as Gurmukh, remains absorbed in You. Thus says Nanak: O my True Lord Master, True is Your Glorious Greatness. || 10 || 2 || 7 || 5 || 2 || 7 ||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ਛੰਤ ਘਰੁ ੩ ॥
आसा महला ३ छंत घरु ३ ॥
Āsā mėhlā 3 cẖẖanṯ gẖar 3.
Aasaa, Third Mehl, Chhant, Third House:
ਸਾਜਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮਹੁ ਤੁਮ ਸਹ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇਹੋ ॥
साजन मेरे प्रीतमहु तुम सह की भगति करेहो ॥
Sājan mere parīṯmahu ṯum sah kī bẖagaṯ kareho.
O my beloved friend, dedicate yourself to the devotional worship of your Husband Lord.
ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਲੇਹੋ ॥
गुरु सेवहु सदा आपणा नामु पदारथु लेहो ॥
Gur sevhu saḏā āpṇā nām paḏārath leho.
Serve your Guru constantly, and obtain the wealth of the Naam.
ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਤੁਮ ਸਹੈ ਕੇਰੀ ਜੋ ਸਹ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਭਾਵਏ ॥
भगति करहु तुम सहै केरी जो सह पिआरे भावए ॥
Bẖagaṯ karahu ṯum sahai kerī jo sah pi▫āre bẖāv▫e.
Dedicate yourself to the worship of your Husband Lord; this is pleasing to your Beloved Husband.
ਆਪਣਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਤੁਮ ਕਰਹੁ ਤਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਸਹ ਖੁਸੀ ਨ ਆਵਏ ॥
आपणा भाणा तुम करहु ता फिरि सह खुसी न आवए ॥
Āpṇā bẖāṇā ṯum karahu ṯā fir sah kẖusī na āv▫e.
If you walk in accordance with your own will, then your Husband Lord will not be pleased with you.
ਭਗਤਿ ਭਾਵ ਇਹੁ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਬਿਖੜਾ ਗੁਰ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਕੋ ਪਾਵਏ ॥
भगति भाव इहु मारगु बिखड़ा गुर दुआरै को पावए ॥
Bẖagaṯ bẖāv ih mārag bikẖ▫ṛā gur ḏu▫ārai ko pāv▫e.
This path of loving devotional worship is very difficult; how rare are those who find it, through the Gurdwara, the Guru's Gate.
ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਏ ॥੧॥
कहै नानकु जिसु करे किरपा सो हरि भगती चितु लावए ॥१॥
Kahai Nānak jis kare kirpā so har bẖagṯī cẖiṯ lāv▫e. ||1||
Says Nanak, that one, upon whom the Lord casts His Glance of Grace, links his consciousness to the worship of the Lord. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਬੈਰਾਗੀਆ ਤੂੰ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਸੁ ਦਿਖਾਵਹਿ ॥
मेरे मन बैरागीआ तूं बैरागु करि किसु दिखावहि ॥
Mere man bairāgī▫ā ṯūʼn bairāg kar kis ḏikẖāvėh.
O my detached mind, unto whom do you show your detachment?
ਹਰਿ ਸੋਹਿਲਾ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਸਦ ਸਦਾ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ॥
हरि सोहिला तिन्ह सद सदा जो हरि गुण गावहि ॥
Har sohilā ṯinĥ saḏ saḏā jo har guṇ gāvahi.
Those who sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord live in the joy of the Lord, forever and ever.
ਕਰਿ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ਤੂੰ ਛੋਡਿ ਪਾਖੰਡੁ ਸੋ ਸਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਾਣਏ ॥
करि बैरागु तूं छोडि पाखंडु सो सहु सभु किछु जाणए ॥
Kar bairāg ṯūʼn cẖẖod pakẖand so saho sabẖ kicẖẖ jāṇ▫e.
So become detached, and renounce hypocrisy; Your Husband Lord knows everything.
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਏ ॥
जलि थलि महीअलि एको सोई गुरमुखि हुकमु पछाणए ॥
Jal thal mahī▫al eko so▫ī gurmukẖ hukam pacẖẖāṇ▫e.
The One Lord is pervading the water, the land and the sky; the Gurmukh realizes the Command of His Will.
ਜਿਨਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹਰੀ ਕੇਰਾ ਸੋਈ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਏ ॥
जिनि हुकमु पछाता हरी केरा सोई सरब सुख पावए ॥
Jin hukam pacẖẖāṯā harī kerā so▫ī sarab sukẖ pāv▫e.
One who realizes the Lord's Command, obtains all peace and comforts.
ਇਵ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸੋ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵਏ ॥੨॥
इव कहै नानकु सो बैरागी अनदिनु हरि लिव लावए ॥२॥
Iv kahai Nānak so bairāgī an▫ḏin har liv lāv▫e. ||2||
Thus says Nanak: such a detached soul remains absorbed in the Lord's Love, day and night. ||2||
ਜਹ ਜਹ ਮਨ ਤੂੰ ਧਾਵਦਾ ਤਹ ਤਹ ਹਰਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਲੇ ॥
जह जह मन तूं धावदा तह तह हरि तेरै नाले ॥
Jah jah man ṯūʼn ḏẖāvḏā ṯah ṯah har ṯerai nāle.
Wherever you wander, O my mind, the Lord is there with you.
ਮਨ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਛੋਡੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਮਾਲੇ ॥
मन सिआणप छोडीऐ गुर का सबदु समाले ॥
Man si▫āṇap cẖẖodī▫ai gur kā sabaḏ samāle.
Renounce your cleverness, O my mind, and reflect upon the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਸਾਥਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਸੋ ਸਹੁ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਹੇ ॥
साथि तेरै सो सहु सदा है इकु खिनु हरि नामु समालहे ॥
Sāth ṯerai so saho saḏā hai ik kẖin har nām samālhe.
Your Husband Lord is always with you, if you remember the Lord's Name, even for an instant.
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਕਟੇ ਅੰਤਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਵਹੇ ॥
जनम जनम के तेरे पाप कटे अंति परम पदु पावहे ॥
Janam janam ke ṯere pāp kate anṯ param paḏ pāvhe.
The sins of countless incarnations shall be washed away, and in the end, you shall obtain the supreme status.
ਸਾਚੇ ਨਾਲਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਗੰਢੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਸਮਾਲੇ ॥
साचे नालि तेरा गंढु लागै गुरमुखि सदा समाले ॥
Sācẖe nāl ṯerā gandẖ lāgai gurmukẖ saḏā samāle.
You shall be linked to the True Lord, and as Gurmukh, remember Him forever.
ਇਉ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਹ ਮਨ ਤੂੰ ਧਾਵਦਾ ਤਹ ਹਰਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਲੇ ॥੩॥
इउ कहै नानकु जह मन तूं धावदा तह हरि तेरै सदा नाले ॥३॥
I▫o kahai Nānak jah man ṯūʼn ḏẖāvḏā ṯah har ṯerai saḏā nāle. ||3||
Thus says Nanak: wherever you go, O my mind, the Lord is there with you. ||3||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਧਾਵਤੁ ਥੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਿਆ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਆਏ ॥
सतिगुर मिलिऐ धावतु थम्हिआ निज घरि वसिआ आए ॥
Saṯgur mili▫ai ḏẖāvaṯ thamiĥ▫ā nij gẖar vasi▫ā ā▫e.
Meeting the True Guru, the wandering mind is held steady; it comes to abide in its own home.
ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਹਾਝੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਏ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
नामु विहाझे नामु लए नामि रहे समाए ॥
Nām vihājẖe nām la▫e nām rahe samā▫e.
It purchases the Naam, chants the Naam, and remains absorbed in the Naam.
ਧਾਵਤੁ ਥੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਿਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਦਸਵਾ ਦੁਆਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
धावतु थम्हिआ सतिगुरि मिलिऐ दसवा दुआरु पाइआ ॥
Ḏẖāvaṯ thamiĥ▫ā saṯgur mili▫ai ḏasvā ḏu▫ār pā▫i▫ā.
The outgoing, wandering soul, upon meeting the True Guru, opens the Tenth Gate.
ਤਿਥੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਸਹਜ ਧੁਨਿ ਉਪਜੈ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਗਤੁ ਥੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਰਹਾਇਆ ॥
तिथै अम्रित भोजनु सहज धुनि उपजै जितु सबदि जगतु थम्हि रहाइआ ॥
Ŧithai amriṯ bẖojan sahj ḏẖun upjai jiṯ sabaḏ jagaṯ thamiĥ rahā▫i▫ā.
There, Ambrosial Nectar is food and the celestial music resounds; the world is held spell-bound by the music of the Word.
ਤਹ ਅਨੇਕ ਵਾਜੇ ਸਦਾ ਅਨਦੁ ਹੈ ਸਚੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
तह अनेक वाजे सदा अनदु है सचे रहिआ समाए ॥
Ŧah anek vāje saḏā anaḏ hai sacẖe rahi▫ā samā▫e.
The many strains of the unstruck melody resound there, as one merges in Truth.
ਇਉ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਧਾਵਤੁ ਥੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਿਆ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਆਏ ॥੪॥
इउ कहै नानकु सतिगुरि मिलिऐ धावतु थम्हिआ निज घरि वसिआ आए ॥४॥
I▫o kahai Nānak saṯgur mili▫ai ḏẖāvaṯ thamiĥ▫ā nij gẖar vasi▫ā ā▫e. ||4||
Thus says Nanak: by meeting the True Guru, the wandering soul becomes steady, and comes to dwell in the home of its own self. ||4||
ਮਨ ਤੂੰ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਰੂਪੁ ਹੈ ਆਪਣਾ ਮੂਲੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥
मन तूं जोति सरूपु है आपणा मूलु पछाणु ॥
Man ṯūʼn joṯ sarūp hai āpṇā mūl pacẖẖāṇ.
O my mind, you are the embodiment of the Divine Light - recognize your own origin.
ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਣੁ ॥
मन हरि जी तेरै नालि है गुरमती रंगु माणु ॥
Man har jī ṯerai nāl hai gurmaṯī rang māṇ.
O my mind, the Dear Lord is with you; through the Guru's Teachings, enjoy His Love.
ਮੂਲੁ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ਤਾਂ ਸਹੁ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਮਰਣ ਜੀਵਣ ਕੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਈ ॥
मूलु पछाणहि तां सहु जाणहि मरण जीवण की सोझी होई ॥
Mūl pacẖẖāṇėh ṯāʼn saho jāṇėh maraṇ jīvaṇ kī sojẖī ho▫ī.
Acknowledge your origin, and then you shall know your Husband Lord, and so understand death and birth.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਤਾਂ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
गुर परसादी एको जाणहि तां दूजा भाउ न होई ॥
Gur parsādī eko jāṇėh ṯāʼn ḏūjā bẖā▫o na ho▫ī.
By Guru's Grace, know the One; then, you shall not love any other.
ਮਨਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਆਈ ਵਜੀ ਵਧਾਈ ਤਾ ਹੋਆ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
मनि सांति आई वजी वधाई ता होआ परवाणु ॥
Man sāʼnṯ ā▫ī vajī vaḏẖā▫ī ṯā ho▫ā parvāṇ.
Peace comes to the mind, and gladness resounds; then, you shall be acclaimed.
ਇਉ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮਨ ਤੂੰ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਰੂਪੁ ਹੈ ਅਪਣਾ ਮੂਲੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥੫॥
इउ कहै नानकु मन तूं जोति सरूपु है अपणा मूलु पछाणु ॥५॥
I▫o kahai Nānak man ṯūʼn joṯ sarūp hai apṇā mūl pacẖẖāṇ. ||5||
Thus says Nanak: O my mind, you are the very image of the Luminous Lord; recognize the true origin of your self. ||5||

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਣੀ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੂਨੀ ਭਵਾਹਿ ॥
माइआ मोहणी मोहिआ फिरि फिरि जूनी भवाहि ॥
Mā▫i▫ā mohṇī mohi▫ā fir fir jūnī bẖavāhi.
The fascinating Maya has fascinated you, over and over again, and lured you into reincarnation.
ਗਾਰਬਿ ਲਾਗਾ ਜਾਹਿ ਮੁਗਧ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਇਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਵਹੇ ॥
गारबि लागा जाहि मुगध मन अंति गइआ पछुतावहे ॥
Gārab lāgā jāhi mugaḏẖ man anṯ ga▫i▫ā pacẖẖuṯāvhe.
Clinging to pride, you shall depart, O foolish mind, and in the end, you shall regret and repent.
ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਰੋਗੁ ਲਗਾ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਵਹੇ ॥
अहंकारु तिसना रोगु लगा बिरथा जनमु गवावहे ॥
Ahaʼnkār ṯisnā rog lagā birthā janam gavāvhe.
You are afflicted with the diseases of ego and desire, and you are wasting your life away in vain.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੁਗਧ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਅਗੈ ਗਇਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਵਹੇ ॥
मनमुख मुगध चेतहि नाही अगै गइआ पछुतावहे ॥
Manmukẖ mugaḏẖ cẖīṯėh nāhī agai ga▫i▫ā pacẖẖuṯāvhe.
The foolish self-willed manmukh does not remember the Lord, and shall regret and repent hereafter.
ਇਉ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮਨ ਤੂੰ ਗਾਰਬਿ ਅਟਿਆ ਗਾਰਬਿ ਲਦਿਆ ਜਾਵਹੇ ॥੬॥
इउ कहै नानकु मन तूं गारबि अटिआ गारबि लदिआ जावहे ॥६॥
I▫o kahai Nānak man ṯūʼn gārab ati▫ā gārab laḏi▫ā jāvhe. ||6||
Thus says Nanak: O mind, you are full of pride; loaded with pride, you shall depart. ||6||
ਮਨ ਤੂੰ ਮਤ ਮਾਣੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਜਿ ਹਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਹੋਹੁ ॥
मन तूं मत माणु करहि जि हउ किछु जाणदा गुरमुखि निमाणा होहु ॥
Man ṯūʼn maṯ māṇ karahi jė ha▫o kicẖẖ jāṇḏā gurmukẖ nimāṇā hohu.
O mind, don't be so proud of yourself, as if you know it all; the Gurmukh is humble and modest.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਹਉ ਬੁਧਿ ਹੈ ਸਚਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਲੁ ਖੋਹੁ ॥
अंतरि अगिआनु हउ बुधि है सचि सबदि मलु खोहु ॥
Anṯar agi▫ān ha▫o buḏẖ hai sacẖ sabaḏ mal kẖohu.
Within the intellect are ignorance and ego; through the True Word of the Shabad, this filth is washed off.
ਹੋਹੁ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਅਗੈ ਮਤ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪੁ ਲਖਾਵਹੇ ॥
होहु निमाणा सतिगुरू अगै मत किछु आपु लखावहे ॥
Hohu nimāṇā saṯgurū agai maṯ kicẖẖ āp lakẖāvhe.
So be humble, and surrender to the True Guru; do not attach your identity to your ego.
ਆਪਣੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਜਗਤੁ ਜਲਿਆ ਮਤ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਵਹੇ ॥
आपणै अहंकारि जगतु जलिआ मत तूं आपणा आपु गवावहे ॥
Āpṇai ahaʼnkār jagaṯ jali▫ā maṯ ṯūʼn āpṇā āp gavāvhe.
The world is consumed by ego and self-identity; see this, lest you lose your own self as well.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਕਰਹਿ ਕਾਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਲਾਗਿ ਰਹੁ ॥
सतिगुर कै भाणै करहि कार सतिगुर कै भाणै लागि रहु ॥
Saṯgur kai bẖāṇai karahi kār saṯgur kai bẖāṇai lāg rahu.
Make yourself follow the Sweet Will of the True Guru; remain attached to His Sweet Will.
ਇਉ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਆਪੁ ਛਡਿ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮਨ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਹੋਇ ਰਹੁ ॥੭॥
इउ कहै नानकु आपु छडि सुख पावहि मन निमाणा होइ रहु ॥७॥
I▫o kahai Nānak āp cẖẖad sukẖ pāvahi man nimāṇā ho▫e rahu. ||7||
Thus says Nanak: renounce your ego and self-conceit, and obtain peace; let your mind abide in humility. ||7||
ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਵੇਲਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਮੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੋ ਸਹੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
धंनु सु वेला जितु मै सतिगुरु मिलिआ सो सहु चिति आइआ ॥
Ḏẖan so velā jiṯ mai saṯgur mili▫ā so saho cẖiṯ ā▫i▫ā.
Blessed is that time, when I met the True Guru, and my Husband Lord came into my consciousness.
ਮਹਾ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਸਹਜੁ ਭਇਆ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
महा अनंदु सहजु भइआ मनि तनि सुखु पाइआ ॥
Mahā anand sahj bẖa▫i▫ā man ṯan sukẖ pā▫i▫ā.
I became so very blissful, and my mind and body found such a natural peace.
ਸੋ ਸਹੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਇਆ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਅਵਗਣ ਸਭਿ ਵਿਸਾਰੇ ॥
सो सहु चिति आइआ मंनि वसाइआ अवगण सभि विसारे ॥
So saho cẖiṯ ā▫i▫ā man vasā▫i▫ā avgaṇ sabẖ visāre.
My Husband Lord came into my consciousness; I enshrined Him within my mind, and I renounced all vice.
ਜਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਣਾ ਗੁਣ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਆਪਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
जा तिसु भाणा गुण परगट होए सतिगुर आपि सवारे ॥
Jā ṯis bẖāṇā guṇ pargat ho▫e saṯgur āp savāre.
When it pleased Him, virtues appeared in me, and the True Guru Himself adorned me.
ਸੇ ਜਨ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਹੋਏ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਇਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਿੜਿਆ ਦੁਤੀਆ ਭਾਉ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
से जन परवाणु होए जिन्ही इकु नामु दिड़िआ दुतीआ भाउ चुकाइआ ॥
Se jan parvāṇ ho▫e jinĥī ik nām ḏiṛi▫ā ḏuṯī▫ā bẖā▫o cẖukā▫i▫ā.
Those humble beings become acceptable, who cling to the One Name and renounce the love of duality.
ਇਉ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਵੇਲਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਮੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੋ ਸਹੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਇਆ ॥੮॥
इउ कहै नानकु धंनु सु वेला जितु मै सतिगुरु मिलिआ सो सहु चिति आइआ ॥८॥
I▫o kahai Nānak ḏẖan so velā jiṯ mai saṯgur mili▫ā so saho cẖiṯ ā▫i▫ā. ||8||
Thus says Nanak: blessed is the time when I met the True Guru, and my Husband Lord came into my consciousness. ||8||
ਇਕਿ ਜੰਤ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲੇ ਤਿਨਿ ਸਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ॥
इकि जंत भरमि भुले तिनि सहि आपि भुलाए ॥
Ik janṯ bẖaram bẖule ṯin sėh āp bẖulā▫e.
Some people wander around, deluded by doubt; their Husband Lord Himself has misled them.
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਏ ॥
दूजै भाइ फिरहि हउमै करम कमाए ॥
Ḏūjai bẖā▫e firėh ha▫umai karam kamā▫e.
They wander around in the love of duality, and they do their deeds in ego.
ਤਿਨਿ ਸਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ਕੁਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਏ ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
तिनि सहि आपि भुलाए कुमारगि पाए तिन का किछु न वसाई ॥
Ŧin sėh āp bẖulā▫e kumārag pā▫e ṯin kā kicẖẖ na vasā▫ī.
Their Husband Lord Himself has misled them, and put them on the path of evil. Nothing lies in their power.
ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਅਵਗਤਿ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਇਹ ਰਚਨ ਰਚਾਈ ॥
तिन की गति अवगति तूंहै जाणहि जिनि इह रचन रचाई ॥
Ŧin kī gaṯ avgaṯ ṯūʼnhai jāṇėh jin ih racẖan racẖā▫ī.
You alone know their ups and downs, You, who created the creation.
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਖਰਾ ਭਾਰਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਿਸੈ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥
हुकमु तेरा खरा भारा गुरमुखि किसै बुझाए ॥
Hukam ṯerā kẖarā bẖārā gurmukẖ kisai bujẖā▫e.
The Command of Your Will is very strict; how rare is the Gurmukh who understands.
ਇਉ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਿਆ ਜੰਤ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ॥੯॥
इउ कहै नानकु किआ जंत विचारे जा तुधु भरमि भुलाए ॥९॥
I▫o kahai Nānak ki▫ā janṯ vicẖāre jā ṯuḏẖ bẖaram bẖulā▫e. ||9||
Thus says Nanak: what can the poor creatures do, when You mislead them into doubt? ||9||
ਸਚੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਾ ਸਚੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
सचे मेरे साहिबा सची तेरी वडिआई ॥
Sacẖe mere sāhibā sacẖī ṯerī vadi▫ā▫ī.
O My True Lord Master, True is Your glorious greatness.
ਤੂੰ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
तूं पारब्रहमु बेअंतु सुआमी तेरी कुदरति कहणु न जाई ॥
Ŧūʼn pārbarahm be▫anṯ su▫āmī ṯerī kuḏraṯ kahaṇ na jā▫ī.
You are the Supreme Lord God, the Infinite Lord and Master. Your creative power cannot be described.
ਸਚੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹੇ ॥
सची तेरी वडिआई जा कउ तुधु मंनि वसाई सदा तेरे गुण गावहे ॥
Sacẖī ṯerī vadi▫ā▫ī jā ka▫o ṯuḏẖ man vasā▫ī saḏā ṯere guṇ gāvhe.
True is Your glorious greatness; when You enshrine it within the mind, one sings Your Glorious Praises forever.
ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਹੇ ॥
तेरे गुण गावहि जा तुधु भावहि सचे सिउ चितु लावहे ॥
Ŧere guṇ gāvahi jā ṯuḏẖ bẖāvėh sacẖe si▫o cẖiṯ lāvhe.
He sings Your Glorious Praises, when it is pleasing to You, O True Lord; he centers his consciousness on You.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਹਿ ਸੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
जिस नो तूं आपे मेलहि सु गुरमुखि रहै समाई ॥
Jis no ṯūʼn āpe melėh so gurmukẖ rahai samā▫ī.
One whom You unite with Yourself, as Gurmukh, remains absorbed in You.
ਇਉ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਚੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਾ ਸਚੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੧੦॥੨॥੭॥੫॥੨॥੭॥
इउ कहै नानकु सचे मेरे साहिबा सची तेरी वडिआई ॥१०॥२॥७॥५॥२॥७॥
I▫o kahai Nānak sacẖe mere sāhibā sacẖī ṯerī vadi▫ā▫ī. ||10||2||7||5||2||7||

ਰਾਗ ਆਸਾ, ਘਰ ੩ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ 'ਛੰਤ'।
ਸਾਜਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮਹੁ ਤੁਮ ਸਹ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇਹੋ ॥
O my beloved friend, dedicate yourself to the devotional worship of your Husband Lord.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਤੇ ਯਾਰ ਬੇਲੀਆ! ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ।
ਸਾਜਨ ਮੇਰੇ = ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੱਜਣੋ! ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮਹੁ = ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰਿਓ! ਸਹ ਕੀ = ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ। ਕਰੇਹੋ = ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੋ।
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ (ਸਤਸੰਗੀ) ਸੱਜਣੋ ਪਿਆਰਿਓ! ਤੁਸੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਰੋ,
ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਲੇਹੋ ॥
Serve your Guru constantly, and obtain the wealth of the Naam.
ਤੂੰ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਘਾਲ ਕਮਾ, ਅਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ।
ਲੇਹੋ = ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰੋ।
ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹੋ (ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਚੀਜ਼ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰੋ।
ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਤੁਮ ਸਹੈ ਕੇਰੀ ਜੋ ਸਹ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਭਾਵਏ ॥
Dedicate yourself to the worship of your Husband Lord; this is pleasing to your Beloved Husband.
ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ, ਜਿਹੜੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਕੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਹੈ ਕੇਰੀ = ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ। ਸਹ ਭਾਵਏ = ਸਹ ਭਾਵੈ, ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਸੰਦ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਜੋ = ਜੇਹੜੀ, ਉਹ ਭਗਤੀ।
(ਹੇ ਸੱਜਣੋ!) ਤੁਸੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੋ, ਇਹ ਭਗਤੀ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਸੰਦ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਆਪਣਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਤੁਮ ਕਰਹੁ ਤਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਸਹ ਖੁਸੀ ਨ ਆਵਏ ॥
If you walk in accordance with your own will, then your Husband Lord will not be pleased with you.
ਜੇਕਰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਨਿੱਜੀ ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਚੱਲੇਗਾਂ, ਤਦ, ਕੰਤ ਨੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਣਾ।
ਭਾਣਾ = ਮਰਜ਼ੀ। ਸਹ ਖੁਸੀ = ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨਤਾ। ਨ ਆਵਏ = ਨ ਆਵੈ, ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ, ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ।
ਜੇ (ਇਸ ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ) ਤੁਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਹੀ ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੋਗੇ ਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨਤਾ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲੇਗੀ।
ਭਗਤਿ ਭਾਵ ਇਹੁ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਬਿਖੜਾ ਗੁਰ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਕੋ ਪਾਵਏ ॥
This path of loving devotional worship is very difficult; how rare are those who find it, through the Gurdwara, the Guru's Gate.
ਇਸ ਪਿਆਰ-ਉਪਾਸਨਾ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਔਖਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਾਵ ਮਾਰਗੁ = ਪਿਆਰ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ। ਬਿਖੜਾ = ਔਖਾ, ਔਖਿਆਈਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ। ਦੁਆਰੈ = ਦਰ ਤੇ। ਕੋ = ਕੋਈ (ਵਿਰਲਾ)।
(ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰਿਓ!) ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਰਸਤਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਔਕੜਾਂ-ਭਰਿਆ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ ਰਸਤਾ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆ ਡਿੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਏ ॥੧॥
Says Nanak, that one, upon whom the Lord casts His Glance of Grace, links his consciousness to the worship of the Lord. ||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਹਰ ਧਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਲਾਵਏ = ਲਾਵੈ, ਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਆਪ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਬੈਰਾਗੀਆ ਤੂੰ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਸੁ ਦਿਖਾਵਹਿ ॥
O my detached mind, unto whom do you show your detachment?
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਤਿਆਗਣ ਜਿੰਦੜੀਏ! ਤੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਲੋਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਉਪਰਾਮਤਾ ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਖਾਲਦੀ ਹੈਂ?
ਬੈਰਾਗੀਆ = ਵੈਰਾਗ ਵਿਚ ਆਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ। ਕਰਿ = ਕਰ ਕੇ। ਕਿਸੁ = ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ?
ਹੇ ਵੈਰਾਗ ਵਿਚ ਆਏ ਹੋਏ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਵੈਰਾਗ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ? (ਇਸ ਉਪਰੋਂ ਉਪਰੋਂ ਵਿਖਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਵੈਰਾਗ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣ ਸਕੇਗਾ)।
ਹਰਿ ਸੋਹਿਲਾ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਸਦ ਸਦਾ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ॥
Those who sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord live in the joy of the Lord, forever and ever.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਤੇ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹੀ ਰੱਬੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਚਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸੋਹਿਲਾ = ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ। ਸਦ = ਸਦਾ। ਜੋ = ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ।
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਖਿੜਾਉ ਤੇ ਚਾਉ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਿ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ਤੂੰ ਛੋਡਿ ਪਾਖੰਡੁ ਸੋ ਸਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਾਣਏ ॥
So become detached, and renounce hypocrisy; Your Husband Lord knows everything.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਪਾ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦੰਭ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਦੇ। ਉਹ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਾਰਾ ਕੁਝ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਛੋਡਿ = ਛੱਡ ਦੇ। ਜਾਣਏ = ਜਾਣੈ, ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! (ਬਾਹਰਲੇ ਵਿਖਾਵੇ ਵਾਲੇ ਵੈਰਾਗ ਦਾ) ਪਖੰਡ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ (ਤੇ, ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਮਿਲਣ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਹ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਅੰਦਰ ਦੀ) ਹਰੇਕ ਗੱਲ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਏ ॥
The One Lord is pervading the water, the land and the sky; the Gurmukh realizes the Command of His Will.
ਉਹ ਇੱਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹੀ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ, ਮਾਰੂਥਲ ਧਰਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਲਿ = ਜਲ ਵਿਚ। ਥਲਿ = ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ। ਮਹੀਅਲਿ = ਮਹੀ ਤਲਿ, ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਤਲ ਉਤੇ, ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ। ਸੋਈ = ਉਹ ਹੀ। ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ = ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ। ਪਛਾਣਏ = ਪਛਾਣੈ, ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਲ ਵਿਚ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਸਮਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ) ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਨਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹਰੀ ਕੇਰਾ ਸੋਈ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਏ ॥
One who realizes the Lord's Command, obtains all peace and comforts.
ਗੁਰੂ-ਅਨੁਸਾਰੀ ਸਾਈਂ ਦੀ ਰਜਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਆਣਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕੇਵਲ ਓਹੀ, ਜੋ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਫੁਰਮਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੇ ਆਰਾਮ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਨਿ = ਜਿਸ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਨੇ। ਕੇਰਾ = ਦਾ। ਪਾਵਏ = ਪਾਵੈ, ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਸਮਝ ਲਈ ਉਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਇਵ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸੋ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵਏ ॥੨॥
Thus says Nanak: such a detached soul remains absorbed in the Lord's Love, day and night. ||2||
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਐਸਾ ਵਿਰੱਕਤ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਰੈਣ ਦਿਹੁੰ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਵ = ਇਉਂ। ਅਨਦਿਨੁ = ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ॥੨॥
ਨਾਨਕ (ਤੈਨੂੰ) ਇਉਂ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਜਹ ਜਹ ਮਨ ਤੂੰ ਧਾਵਦਾ ਤਹ ਤਹ ਹਰਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਲੇ ॥
Wherever you wander, O my mind, the Lord is there with you.
ਜਿੱਥੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਭੀ ਤੂੰ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੰਨੂਏ! ਓਥੇ ਓਥੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਗ ਸੰਗ ਹੈ।
ਜਹ = ਜਿੱਥੇ। ਮਨ = ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਧਾਵਦਾ = ਦੌੜਦਾ। ਤਹ = ਉਥੇ। ਨਾਲੇ = ਨਾਲ ਹੀ।
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਜਿੱਥੇ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਤੂੰ ਦੌੜਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਉਥੇ ਉਥੇ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਮਨ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਛੋਡੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਮਾਲੇ ॥
Renounce your cleverness, O my mind, and reflect upon the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਤਿਆਗ ਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਾਰ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨੁਏ।
ਸਿਆਣਪ = ਚਤੁਰਾਈ। ਸਮਾਲੇ = ਸਮਾਲਿ, ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਾਂਭ ਕੇ ਰੱਖ।
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਆਪਣੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ (ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ) ਛੱਡ ਦੇ ਤੇ, ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕੇ ਰੱਖ!
ਸਾਥਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਸੋ ਸਹੁ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਹੇ ॥
Your Husband Lord is always with you, if you remember the Lord's Name, even for an instant.
ਉਹ ਭਰਤਾ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਗ ਸੰਗ ਹੈ, ਜੇਕਰ ਤੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਮੁਹਤ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ ਲਵੇਂ।
ਸਮਾਲਹੇ = ਸਮਾਲਹਿ, ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰੇਂ।
(ਫਿਰ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਸ ਪਏਗਾ ਕਿ) ਉਹ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਹੇ ਮਨ!) ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਸਾਏਂ,
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਕਟੇ ਅੰਤਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਵਹੇ ॥
The sins of countless incarnations shall be washed away, and in the end, you shall obtain the supreme status.
ਤੇਰੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੁਨਾਹ ਧੋਤੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਅਖੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਮਹਾਨ ਮਰਤਬਾ ਪਾ ਲਵੇਗਾ।
ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ = ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ। ਪਾਵਹੇ = ਪਾਵਹਿ, ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਏਂ।
ਤਾਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਪ ਕੱਟੇ ਜਾਣ, ਤੇ, ਆਖ਼ਰ ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਏਂ।
ਸਾਚੇ ਨਾਲਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਗੰਢੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਸਮਾਲੇ ॥
You shall be linked to the True Lord, and as Gurmukh, remember Him forever.
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਸੱਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜ ਜਾਵੇਗੀਂ।
ਗੰਢੁ = ਜੋੜ, ਪੱਕਾ ਸੰਬੰਧ। ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ = ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ। ਸਮਾਲੇ = ਸਮਾਲਿ।
(ਹੇ ਮਨ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖ, (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਸ) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰਾ ਪੱਕਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਏਗਾ।
ਇਉ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਹ ਮਨ ਤੂੰ ਧਾਵਦਾ ਤਹ ਹਰਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਲੇ ॥੩॥
Thus says Nanak: wherever you go, O my mind, the Lord is there with you. ||3||
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ: ਜਿਥੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨੁਏ, ਓਥੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਥ ਹੈ।

ਨਾਨਕ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਇਉਂ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜਿੱਥੇ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਤੂੰ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਉੱਥੇ ਉੱਥੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਧਾਵਤੁ ਥੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਿਆ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਆਏ ॥
Meeting the True Guru, the wandering mind is held steady; it comes to abide in its own home.
ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਟ ਕੇ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨ ਅਸਥਿਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਿੱਜ ਦੇ ਧਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਟਿੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਧਾਵਤੁ = ਭਟਕਦਾ (ਮਨ)। ਥੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਿਆ = (ਭਟਕਣ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੋਕ ਲਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ = ਆਪਣੇ ਅਸਲ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ। ਆਏ = ਆਇ, ਆ ਕੇ।
ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਮਨ (ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੁਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਹਾਝੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਏ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
It purchases the Naam, chants the Naam, and remains absorbed in the Naam.
ਤਦੋਂ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਖਰੀਦਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਵਿਹਾਝੇ = ਖ਼ਰੀਦਦਾ ਹੈ। ਲਏ = ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਨਾਮਿ = ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ।
(ਫਿਰ ਇਹ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੌਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ,) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਧਾਵਤੁ ਥੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਿਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਦਸਵਾ ਦੁਆਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
The outgoing, wandering soul, upon meeting the True Guru, opens the Tenth Gate.
ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਟ ਕੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੋਈ ਆਤਮਾ ਸਥਿਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਦਸਮੇ ਦੁਆਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ਼ ਕਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਧਾਵਤੁ = ਭਟਕਦਾ (ਮਨ)। ਥੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਿਆ = (ਭਟਕਣ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੋਕ ਲਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ = ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ। ਦਸਵਾ ਦੁਆਰੁ = ਨੌ ਗੋਲਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਨਿਕਲ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਦਸਵਾਂ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਾ ਜਿਥੇ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
(ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਮਨ (ਭਟਕਣ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੁਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ) ਦਸਵਾਂ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਾ ਜੋ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜੋ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਕਰਮ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਤਿਥੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਸਹਜ ਧੁਨਿ ਉਪਜੈ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਗਤੁ ਥੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਰਹਾਇਆ ॥
There, Ambrosial Nectar is food and the celestial music resounds; the world is held spell-bound by the music of the Word.
ਉਥੇ ਆਬਿਹਿਯਾਤ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੀ ਖੁਰਾਕ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਗੂੰਜਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਥੇ ਇਲਾਹੀ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਜਿਸ ਰਾਗ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਜਹਾਨ ਥੰਮਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਥੈ = ਉਸ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ। ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ = ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ। ਸਹਜ ਧੁਨਿ = ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੀ ਰੌ। ਜਿਤੁ = ਜਿਸ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ। ਸਬਦਿ = ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ (ਜੁੜ ਕੇ)। ਜਗਤੁ = ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ। ਥੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ = ਰੋਕ ਕੇ।
ਉਸ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ (ਪਹੁੰਚ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਮਨ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ; (ਇਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੀ ਰੌ ਚੱਲ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ (ਇਹ ਮਨ) ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਹ ਅਨੇਕ ਵਾਜੇ ਸਦਾ ਅਨਦੁ ਹੈ ਸਚੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
The many strains of the unstruck melody resound there, as one merges in Truth.
ਉਥੇ ਘਣੇਰੇ ਸੰਗੀਤਕ ਸਾਜ ਅਤੇ ਖੁਦ-ਬ-ਖੁਦ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਗੂੰਜਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਸੱਚੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚੇ = ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ।
(ਜਿਵੇਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਜ ਵੱਜਣ ਨਾਲ ਬੜਾ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਰਾਗ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਉਸ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ (ਮਨ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ, ਮਾਨੋ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਸੰਗੀਤਕ ਸਾਜ ਵੱਜਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਨ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਉ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਧਾਵਤੁ ਥੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਿਆ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਆਏ ॥੪॥
Thus says Nanak: by meeting the True Guru, the wandering soul becomes steady, and comes to dwell in the home of its own self. ||4||
ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਟਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਭੱਜਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਮਨ ਅਹਿਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਿੱਜ ਦੇ ਧਾਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਟਿੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਨਾਨਕ ਇਉਂ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਮਨ (ਭਟਕਣ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੁਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਟਿਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਮਨ ਤੂੰ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਰੂਪੁ ਹੈ ਆਪਣਾ ਮੂਲੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥
O my mind, you are the embodiment of the Divine Light - recognize your own origin.
ਮੇਰੀ ਆਤਮਾ! ਤੂੰ ਰੱਬੀ ਨੂਰ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈਂ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੁੱਢ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ।
ਮਨ = ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜੋਤਿ = ਨੂਰ, ਚਾਨਣ। ਮੂਲੁ = ਅਸਲਾ। ਪਛਾਣੁ = ਸਾਂਝ ਬਣਾਈ ਰੱਖ।
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਅੰਸ ਹੈਂ ਜੋ ਨਿਰਾ ਨੂਰ ਹੀ ਨੂਰ ਹੈ (ਹੇ ਮਨ!) ਆਪਣੇ ਉਸ ਅਸਲੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਬਣਾ।
ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਣੁ ॥
O my mind, the Dear Lord is with you; through the Guru's Teachings, enjoy His Love.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੜੀਏ! ਪੂਜਯ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਗ ਸੰਗ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਲੈ।
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ = ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਲੈ ਕੇ। ਰੰਗੁ = ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ। ਸਹੁ = ਖ਼ਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ।
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਲੈ।
ਮੂਲੁ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ਤਾਂ ਸਹੁ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਮਰਣ ਜੀਵਣ ਕੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਈ ॥
Acknowledge your origin, and then you shall know your Husband Lord, and so understand death and birth.
ਜੇਕਰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੰਥੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੰਆਣ ਲਵੇਂ, ਤਦ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣ ਲਵੇਗੀਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੌਤ ਤੇ ਪੈਦਾਇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਭੇਤ ਦੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ।
ਸੋਝੀ = ਸਮਝ।
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਅਸਲਾ ਸਮਝ ਲਏਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰੀ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਬਣ ਜਾਏਗੀ, ਤਦੋਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਭੀ ਆ ਜਾਇਗੀ ਕਿ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਕੀਹ ਚੀਜ਼ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਕੀਹ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਤਾਂ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
By Guru's Grace, know the One; then, you shall not love any other.
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਜੇਕਰ ਤੂੰ ਇਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰ ਲਵੇਂ ਤਦ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੋਰਸ (ਮਾਇਆ) ਦੀ ਮੁਹੱਬਤ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ।
ਪਰਸਾਦੀ = ਪਰਸਾਦਿ, ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ। ਜਾਣਹਿ = ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲਏਂ। ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ = (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਆਦਿਕ ਦਾ) ਹੋਰ ਪਿਆਰ।
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲਏਂ, ਤਾਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਮੋਹ ਪ੍ਰਬਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕੇਗਾ।
ਮਨਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਆਈ ਵਜੀ ਵਧਾਈ ਤਾ ਹੋਆ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
Peace comes to the mind, and gladness resounds; then, you shall be acclaimed.
ਜੇਕਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਠੰਢ-ਚੈਨ ਆ ਜਾਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਗੂੰਜੇ, ਕੇਵਲ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਣੀਕ ਹੋਵੇਗਾਂ।
ਮਨਿ = ਮਨ ਵਿਚ। ਵਜੀ ਵਧਾਈ = ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਕਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਬਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ (ਜਿਵੇਂ ਵਾਜਾ ਵੱਜਿਆਂ ਹੋਰ ਸਭ ਨਿੱਕਾ-ਮੋਟਾ ਰੌਲਾ ਸੁਣਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਂਦਾ)। ਤਾ = ਤਦੋਂ, ਤਾਂ।
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਕਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਬਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਕਬੂਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਉ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮਨ ਤੂੰ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਰੂਪੁ ਹੈ ਅਪਣਾ ਮੂਲੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥੫॥
Thus says Nanak: O my mind, you are the very image of the Luminous Lord; recognize the true origin of your self. ||5||
ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੜੀਏ! ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਵਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਤਸਵੀਰ ਹੈਂ। ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਜੂਦ ਦੇ ਅਸਲੀ ਮੰਥੇ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰ।

ਨਾਨਕ ਇਉਂ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ-ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਅੰਸ ਹੈਂ ਜੋ ਨਿਰਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਹੀ ਚਾਨਣ ਹੈ (ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਆਪਣੇ ਉਸ ਅਸਲੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਬਣਾ ॥੫॥
ਮਨ ਤੂੰ ਗਾਰਬਿ ਅਟਿਆ ਗਾਰਬਿ ਲਦਿਆ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
O mind, you are so full of pride; loaded with pride, you shall depart.
ਹੇ ਇਨਸਾਨ! ਤੂੰ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਪਰੀਪੂਰਨ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੀ ਟੁਰ ਜਾਵੇਗਾਂ।
ਮਨ = ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਗਾਰਬਿ = ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ। ਅਟਿਆ = ਲਿਬੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ। ਜਾਹਿ = ਜਾਏਂਗਾ।
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ (ਹੁਣ) ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਲਿਬੜਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈਂ, ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਲੱਦਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੀ (ਜਗਤ ਤੋਂ) ਚਲਾ ਜਾਵੇਂਗਾ,
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਣੀ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੂਨੀ ਭਵਾਹਿ ॥
The fascinating Maya has fascinated you, over and over again, and lured you into reincarnation.
ਫਰੇਫਤਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਫਰੇਫਤਾ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਜੂਨੀਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਧੱਕਿਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾਂ।
ਭਵਾਹਿ = ਭਵਾਇਆ ਜਾਹਿਂਗਾ।
(ਵੇਖਣ ਨੂੰ) ਸੋਹਣੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਦਾ ਨਤੀਜਾ ਇਹ ਨਿਕਲੇਗਾ ਕਿ) ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇਗਾ।
ਗਾਰਬਿ ਲਾਗਾ ਜਾਹਿ ਮੁਗਧ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਇਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਵਹੇ ॥
Clinging to pride, you shall depart, O foolish mind, and in the end, you shall regret and repent.
ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਚਿਮੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਤੂੰ ਲੱਗਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਬੰਦੇ! ਅਖੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਟੁਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਤੂੰ ਪਸਚਾਤਾਪ ਕਰੇਗਾਂ।
ਮੁਗਧ = ਮੂਰਖ। ਪਛੁਤਾਵਹੇ = ਪਛੁਤਾਵਹਿ, ਪਛੁਤਾਹਿਂਗਾ।
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨ! ਜਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੀ (ਇਥੋਂ) ਤੁਰੇਂਗਾ ਤਾਂ ਤੁਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ ਹੱਥ ਮਲੇਂਗਾ,
ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਰੋਗੁ ਲਗਾ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਵਹੇ ॥
You are afflicted with the diseases of ego and desire, and you are wasting your life away in vain.
ਹੰਗਤਾ ਤੇ ਖਾਹਿਸ਼ ਦੀ ਬੀਮਾਰੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚਿਮੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਬਰਬਾਦ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਤਿਸਨਾ = ਲਾਲਚ। ਗਵਾਵਹੇ = ਗਵਾਵਹਿ।
ਤੈਨੂੰ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਚੰਬੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਲੱਗਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਤੂੰ (ਇਹ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ) ਜਨਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗਵਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੁਗਧ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਅਗੈ ਗਇਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਵਹੇ ॥
The foolish self-willed manmukh does not remember the Lord, and shall regret and repent hereafter.
ਆਪ-ਹੁੱਦਰਾ ਮੂਰਖ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਅਗਾਹ (ਪ੍ਰਲੋਕ) ਨੂੰ ਟੁਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਫਸੋਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਮੁਖ = ਹੇ ਆਪ-ਹੁਦਰੇ (ਮਨ)! ਚੇਤਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ = ਤੂੰ ਚੇਤਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਹੇ ਆਪ-ਹੁਦਰੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ, ਪਰਲੋਕ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਅਫਸੋਸ ਕਰੇਂਗਾ।
ਇਉ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮਨ ਤੂੰ ਗਾਰਬਿ ਅਟਿਆ ਗਾਰਬਿ ਲਦਿਆ ਜਾਵਹੇ ॥੬॥
Thus says Nanak: O mind, you are full of pride; loaded with pride, you shall depart. ||6||
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ: ਹੇ ਇਨਸਾਨ! ਤੂੰ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਲੱਦਿਆ ਲਦਾਇਆ ਹੀ ਟੁਰ ਜਾਵੇਗਾਂ।
ਜਾਵਹੇ = ਜਾਵਹਿ, ਜਾਏਂਗਾ ॥੬॥
(ਤੈਨੂੰ) ਨਾਨਕ ਇਉਂ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਇੱਥੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈਂ (ਜਗਤ ਤੋਂ ਤੁਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ ਭੀ) ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਲੱਦਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੀ ਜਾਵੇਂਗਾ ॥੬॥
ਮਨ ਤੂੰ ਮਤ ਮਾਣੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਜਿ ਹਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਹੋਹੁ ॥
O mind, don't be so proud of yourself, as if you know it all; the Gurmukh is humble and modest.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਾਂ ਕਰ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ। ਤੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਅਤੇ ਅਜਿਜ਼ ਥੀਂ ਵੰਞ।
ਜਿ = ਕਿ। ਹਉ = ਮੈਂ। ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ = ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ। ਨਿਮਾਣਾ = ਆਜਿਜ਼, ਮਾਣ-ਰਹਿਤ।
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਵੇਖੀਂ, ਕਿਤੇ ਇਹ ਮਾਣ ਨਾਹ ਕਰ ਬੈਠੀਂ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਹਾਂ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਮਾਣ ਤਿਆਗੀ ਰੱਖ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਹਉ ਬੁਧਿ ਹੈ ਸਚਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਲੁ ਖੋਹੁ ॥
Within the intellect are ignorance and ego; through the True Word of the Shabad, this filth is washed off.
ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਬੇਸਮਝੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਕਲ ਦਾ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਹੈ। ਸੱਚੀ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਇਸ ਮੈਲ ਨੂੰ ਧੋ ਸੁਟ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ = (ਤੇਰੇ) ਅੰਦਰ। ਹਉ ਬੁਧਿ = 'ਮੈਂ ਮੈਂ' ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਕਲ। ਸਚਿ = ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰੀ ਵਿਚ। ਸਬਦਿ = ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ।
(ਹੇ ਮਨ!) ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਵਿੱਥ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ 'ਮੈਂ, ਮੈਂ' ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਕਲ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਮੈਲ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ।
ਹੋਹੁ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਅਗੈ ਮਤ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪੁ ਲਖਾਵਹੇ ॥
So be humble, and surrender to the True Guru; do not attach your identity to your ego.
ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਮੂਹਰੇ ਮਸਕੀਣ ਬਣ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਹਰ ਨਾਂ ਕਰ।
ਆਪੁ = ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ। ਲਖਾਵਹੇ = ਜਣਾਏਂ, ਵਿਖਾਏਂ।
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਨਿਰਮਾਣ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਢਹਿ ਪਉ। ਵੇਖੀਂ, ਕਿਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਜਤਾਣ ਨਾਹ ਲੱਗ ਪਈਂ।
ਆਪਣੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਜਗਤੁ ਜਲਿਆ ਮਤ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਵਹੇ ॥
The world is consumed by ego and self-identity; see this, lest you lose your own self as well.
ਆਪਣੇ ਗ਼ਰੂਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸੜ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਏਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਤਬਾਹ ਨਾਂ ਕਰ ਲਈਂ।
ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ = ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ।
ਜਗਤ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੀ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਸੜ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਵੇਖੀਂ ਕਿਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਭੀ (ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਨਾ ਕਰ ਲਈਂ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਕਰਹਿ ਕਾਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਲਾਗਿ ਰਹੁ ॥
Make yourself follow the Sweet Will of the True Guru; remain attached to His Sweet Will.
ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਆਪਣਾ ਕਾਰ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹੁ।
ਭਾਣੈ = ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ।
(ਇਸ ਖ਼ਤਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਬਚੇਂਗਾ, ਜੇ) ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰੇਂਗਾ। (ਸੋ, ਹੇ ਮਨ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹੁ।
ਇਉ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਆਪੁ ਛਡਿ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮਨ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਹੋਇ ਰਹੁ ॥੭॥
Thus says Nanak: renounce your ego and self-conceit, and obtain peace; let your mind abide in humility. ||7||
ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਫੁਰਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਵੈ ਹੰਗਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਮਸਕੀਨ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹੁ, ਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਐਕੁਰ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ।
ਛਡਿ = ਛੱਡ ਕੇ। ਮਨ = ਰੇ ਮਨ! ॥੭॥
(ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਤੈਨੂੰ) ਨਾਨਕ ਇਉਂ ਸਮਝਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ-ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ, ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵੇਂਗਾ ॥੭॥
ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਵੇਲਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਮੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੋ ਸਹੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
Blessed is that time, when I met the True Guru, and my Husband Lord came into my consciousness.
ਮੁਬਾਰਕ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਮਾਂ ਜਦ ਮੈਂ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਭਰਤੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਧੰਨੁ = ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ। ਜਿਤੁ = ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ, ਜਦੋਂ। ਮੈਂ = ਤੈਨੂੰ। ਸਹੁ = ਖਸਮ। ਚਿਤਿ = ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ।
ਉਹ ਵੇਲਾ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੀ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਸੀ (ਤੇ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਉਹ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਿਆ;
ਮਹਾ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਸਹਜੁ ਭਇਆ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
I became so very blissful, and my mind and body found such a natural peace.
ਮੈਂ ਸੁਭਾਵਕ ਹੀ ਪਰਮ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦਿਲ ਅਤੇ ਦੇਹਿ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
ਸਹਜੁ = ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ। ਮਨਿ = ਮਨ ਨੇ। ਤਨਿ = ਤਨ ਨੇ, ਹਿਰਦੇ ਨੇ।
ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਬੜਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ, ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਨੇ ਸੁਖ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਸੋ ਸਹੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਇਆ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਅਵਗਣ ਸਭਿ ਵਿਸਾਰੇ ॥
My Husband Lord came into my consciousness; I enshrined Him within my mind, and I renounced all vice.
ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਕੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਟਿਕਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਬਦੀਆਂ ਭੁਲਾ ਛੱਡੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਮੰਨਿ = ਮਨਿ, ਮਨ ਵਿਚ। ਸਭਿ = ਸਾਰੇ।
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਉਹ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਿਆ, (ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ) ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਔਗੁਣ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ।
ਜਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਣਾ ਗੁਣ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਆਪਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
When it pleased Him, virtues appeared in me, and the True Guru Himself adorned me.
ਜਦ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਨੇਕੀਆਂ ਜ਼ਾਹਰ ਹੋ ਆਈਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਖੁਦ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਸ਼ੋਭਤ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
ਤਿਸੁ = ਉਸ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਨੂੰ। ਸਵਾਰੇ = (ਜੀਵਨ) ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਰੌਸ਼ਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਆਪ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੇ ਜਨ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਹੋਏ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਇਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਿੜਿਆ ਦੁਤੀਆ ਭਾਉ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
Those humble beings become acceptable, who cling to the One Name and renounce the love of duality.
ਜੋ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਇਕ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਪੱਕੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜੁੜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਕਬੂਲ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਦਿੜਿਆ = ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪੱਕਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਦੁਤੀਆ = ਦੂਜਾ। ਭਾਉ = ਪਿਆਰ।
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਵਿਚ ਕਬੂਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਇਉ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਵੇਲਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਮੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੋ ਸਹੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਇਆ ॥੮॥
Thus says Nanak: blessed is the time when I met the True Guru, and my Husband Lord came into my consciousness. ||8||
ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਫੁਰਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ-ਭਾਗਾਂ ਭਰਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਵਕਤ, ਜਦ ਮੈਂ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਕੀਤਾ।

ਨਾਨਕ ਇਉਂ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੀ ਉਹ ਵੇਲਾ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਸੀ ਤੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਉਹ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਿਆ ਸੀ ॥੮॥
ਇਕਿ ਜੰਤ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲੇ ਤਿਨਿ ਸਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ॥
Some people wander around, deluded by doubt; their Husband Lord Himself has misled them.
ਕਈ ਲੋਕੀਂ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਅੰਦਰ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੰਤ ਨੇ ਖੁਦ ਗੁਮਰਾਹ ਕਰ ਛੱਡਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਇਕਿ = {ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਇਕ' ਤੋਂ ਬਹੁ-ਵਚਨ}। ਭਰਮਿ = ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ। ਭੁਲੇ = ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਹੋਏ। ਤਿਨਿ = ਉਸ ਨੇ। ਸਹਿ = ਸ਼ਹੁ ਨੇ। ਤਿਨਿ ਸਹਿ = ਉਸ ਖਸਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ।
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੀਵ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, (ਉਸ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ) ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ,
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਏ ॥
They wander around in the love of duality, and they do their deeds in ego.
ਉਹ ਹੋਰਸ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਾਰ-ਵਿਹਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ = ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ। ਕਮਾਏ = ਕਮਾਇ, ਕਮਾ ਕੇ, ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ।
ਅਜੇਹੇ ਜੀਵ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਤਿਨਿ ਸਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ਕੁਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਏ ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
Their Husband Lord Himself has misled them, and put them on the path of evil. Nothing lies in their power.
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੇ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਗੁਮਰਾਹ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਖੋਟੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਖਤਿਆਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਕੁਮਾਰਗਿ = ਭੈੜੇ ਰਾਹ ਤੇ। ਵਸਾਈ = ਵੱਸ, ਜੋਰ।
ਉਸ ਖਸਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤੇ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੱਲਦਾ (ਕਿ ਆਪਣੇ ਉੱਦਮ ਨਾਲ ਕੁਮਾਰਗ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਣ)।
ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਅਵਗਤਿ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਇਹ ਰਚਨ ਰਚਾਈ ॥
You alone know their ups and downs, You, who created the creation.
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਉ ਤੇ ਉਤਰਾਉ ਕੇਵਲ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਸਾਜੀ ਹੈ।
ਅਵਿਗਤਿ = ਮੰਦੀ ਹਾਲਤ। ਜਿਨਿ = ਜਿਸ (ਤੈਂ) ਨੇ।
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਤੈਂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ-ਰਚਨਾ ਰਚੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਹੋਏ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਮੰਦੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਹਾਲਤ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ (ਜਿਸ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਤੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੈ)।
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਖਰਾ ਭਾਰਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਿਸੈ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥
The Command of Your Will is very strict; how rare is the Gurmukh who understands.
ਪਰਮ ਕਠਨ ਹੈ ਤੇਰੇ ਫੁਰਮਾਨ ਤੇ ਅਮਲ ਕਰਨਾ। ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਖਰਾ = ਬਹੁਤ। ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ = ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਾ ਕੇ। ਬੁਝਾਏ = ਸਮਝਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤੇਰਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਬੜਾ ਡਾਢਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ)। ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਸਮਝਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਉ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਿਆ ਜੰਤ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ॥੯॥
Thus says Nanak: what can the poor creatures do, when You mislead them into doubt? ||9||
ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਫੁਰਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗਰੀਬ ਜੀਵ ਕੀ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਦ ਤੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਅੰਦਰ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ?
ਤੁਧੁ = ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ॥੯॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਉਂ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਕੀਹ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ? ॥੯॥
ਸਚੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਾ ਸਚੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
O My True Lord Master, True is Your glorious greatness.
ਮੈਡੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ, ਸੱਚੀ ਹੈ ਤੈਡੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲਤਾ।
ਸਚੇ = ਹੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ! ਵਡਿਆਈ = ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗੀ, ਵਡੱਪਣ।
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਮਾਲਕ! ਤੇਰਾ ਵਡੱਪਣ ਭੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਤੂੰ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
You are the Supreme Lord God, the Infinite Lord and Master. Your creative power cannot be described.
ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੇ ਅਨੰਤ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ। ਤੇਰੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਕੁਦਰਤਿ = ਤਾਕਤ।
ਤੂੰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਹੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਸਚੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹੇ ॥
True is Your glorious greatness; when You enshrine it within the mind, one sings Your Glorious Praises forever.
ਸੱਚੀ ਹੈ ਤੈਡੀ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗੀ। ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਟਿਕਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਹ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਤੈਡੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ!
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਮੰਨਿ = ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ। ਗਾਵਹੇ = ਗਾਵਹਿ।
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਇਹ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵਸਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਹੇ ॥
He sings Your Glorious Praises, when it is pleasing to You, O True Lord; he centers his consciousness on You.
ਜਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੀ ਬਿਰਤੀ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ।
ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਹਿ = ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ। ਸਿਉ = ਨਾਲ। ਲਾਵਹੇ = ਲਾਵਹਿ।
ਪਰ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਚੰਗੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਫਿਰ ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਹਿ ਸੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
One whom You unite with Yourself, as Gurmukh, remains absorbed in You.
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਹ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਤੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ = {ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਜਿਸੁ' ਦਾ ੁ ਸੰਬੰਧਕ 'ਨੋ' ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਉੱਡ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ}। ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ = ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ।
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਉ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਚੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਾ ਸਚੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੧੦॥੨॥੭॥੫॥੨॥੭॥
