Why are you imbued with the love of another? That path is very dangerous. You are committing sins — no one is your friend. No one shall be your friend; you shall regret and repent forever. You have not chanted with your tongue the Praises of the Lord, Waheguru Ji of the World; when will these days come again? The leaf, once separated from the branch, shall not join with it again; all alone, it falls on its way to death. Prays Nanak, without the Lord, Waheguru Ji’s Name, the soul wanders in suffering forever. || 1 || You are practicing deception secretly, but the Lord, Waheguru Ji, the Knower, knows all. When the Righteous Judge of Dharma reads your account, you shall be squeezed like a sesame seed in the oil-press. For the actions you committed, you shall suffer in pain, O mortal being; you shall be consigned to countless reincarnations. Emotionally attached to Maya, the great enticer, you shall lose this jewel of human life. Except for the Name of the One Lord, Waheguru Ji, you are clever in everything else. Prays Nanak, those who have such pre-ordained destiny are attracted to doubt and emotional attachment. || 2 || No one advocates for the ungrateful person, who is separated from the Lord, Waheguru Ji. The hard-hearted Messengers of Death come and seize him. They seize him, and lead him away, to pay for his evil deeds; he was imbued with Maya, the great enticer. He was not Gurmukh — he did not chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord, Waheguru Ji of the Universe; and now, the hot irons are put to his chest. He is ruined by sexual desire, anger and egotism; deprived of spiritual wisdom, he comes to regret. Prays Nanak, by his cursed destiny he has gone astray; with his tongue, he does not chant the Name of the Lord, Waheguru Ji. || 3 || Without You, God, Waheguru Ji, no one is our savior and protector. It is Your Nature, Lord, Waheguru Ji, to save the sinners. O Savior of sinners, I have entered Your Sanctuary, O Lord, Waheguru Ji and Master, Compassionate Ocean of Mercy. Please, save me from the deep, dark pit, O Creator, Cherisher of all hearts. I seek Your Sanctuary; please, cut away these heavy bonds, and give me the Support of the One Name. Prays Nanak, please give me Your Hand and save me, O Lord, Waheguru Ji of the Universe, Merciful to the meek. || 4 || That day is judged to be fruitful, when I met with the Lord, Waheguru Ji God, Waheguru Ji. Total happiness was revealed, and pain was taken far away. Intuitive peace and poise, joy and eternal happiness come from constantly singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, Waheguru Ji of the World. Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I lovingly worship the Lord, Waheguru Ji; I shall not wander again in reincarnation. He has hugged me close in His Loving Embrace, with intuitive ease, and the seed of my primal destiny has sprouted. Prays Nanak, He Himself has met me; He shall never leave me again. || 5 || 4 || 7 ||

Bihaagraa, Fifth Mehl, Chhant:
ਅਨ ਕਾਏ ਰਾਤੜਿਆ ਵਾਟ ਦੁਹੇਲੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
अन काए रातड़िआ वाट दुहेली राम ॥
An kā▫e rāṯ▫ṛi▫ā vāt ḏuhelī rām.
Why are you imbued with the love of another? That path is very dangerous.
ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾਵਦਿਆ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਬੇਲੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
पाप कमावदिआ तेरा कोइ न बेली राम ॥
Pāp kamāvḏi▫ā ṯerā ko▫e na belī rām.
O sinner, no one is your friend.
ਕੋਏ ਨ ਬੇਲੀ ਹੋਇ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ ਪਛੋਤਾਵਹੇ ॥
कोए न बेली होइ तेरा सदा पछोतावहे ॥
Ko▫e na belī ho▫e ṯerā saḏā pacẖẖoṯāvhe.
No one shall be your friend, and you shall forever regret your actions.
ਗੁਨ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਨ ਜਪਹਿ ਰਸਨਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਕਦਹੁ ਸੇ ਦਿਹ ਆਵਹੇ ॥
गुन गुपाल न जपहि रसना फिरि कदहु से दिह आवहे ॥
Gun gupāl na jāpėh rasnā fir kaḏahu se ḏih āvhe.
You have not chanted with your tongue the Praises of the Sustainer of the World; when will these days come again?
ਤਰਵਰ ਵਿਛੁੰਨੇ ਨਹ ਪਾਤ ਜੁੜਤੇ ਜਮ ਮਗਿ ਗਉਨੁ ਇਕੇਲੀ ॥
तरवर विछुंने नह पात जुड़ते जम मगि गउनु इकेली ॥
Ŧarvar vicẖẖune nah pāṯ juṛ▫ṯe jam mag ga▫un ikelī.
The leaf, separated from the branch, shall not be joined with it again; all alone, it falls on its way to death.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਫਿਰਤ ਦੁਹੇਲੀ ॥੧॥
बिनवंत नानक बिनु नाम हरि के सदा फिरत दुहेली ॥१॥
Binvanṯ Nānak bin nām har ke saḏā firaṯ ḏuhelī. ||1||
Prays Nanak, without the Lord, Waheguru Ji's Name, the soul wanders, forever suffering. ||1||
ਤੂੰ ਵਲਵੰਚ ਲੂਕਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਸਭ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਾਣੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
तूं वलवंच लूकि करहि सभ जाणै जाणी राम ॥
Ŧūʼn valvancẖ lūk karahi sabẖ jāṇai jāṇī rām.
You are practicing deception secretly, but the Lord, Waheguru Ji, the Knower, knows all.
ਲੇਖਾ ਧਰਮ ਭਇਆ ਤਿਲ ਪੀੜੇ ਘਾਣੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
लेखा धरम भइआ तिल पीड़े घाणी राम ॥
Lekẖā ḏẖaram bẖa▫i▫ā ṯil pīṛe gẖāṇī rām.
When the Righteous Judge of Dharma reads your account, you shall be squeezed like a sesame seed in the oil-press.
ਕਿਰਤ ਕਮਾਣੇ ਦੁਖ ਸਹੁ ਪਰਾਣੀ ਅਨਿਕ ਜੋਨਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਾਇਆ ॥
किरत कमाणे दुख सहु पराणी अनिक जोनि भ्रमाइआ ॥
Kiraṯ kamāṇe ḏukẖ saho parāṇī anik jon bẖarmā▫i▫ā.
For the actions you committed, you shall suffer the penalty; you shall be consigned to countless reincarnations.
ਮਹਾ ਮੋਹਨੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਰਤਨ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
महा मोहनी संगि राता रतन जनमु गवाइआ ॥
Mahā mohnī sang rāṯā raṯan janam gavā▫i▫ā.
Imbued with the love of Maya, the great enticer, you shall lose the jewel of this human life.
ਇਕਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਆਨ ਕਾਜ ਸਿਆਣੀ ॥
इकसु हरि के नाम बाझहु आन काज सिआणी ॥
Ikas har ke nām bājẖahu ān kāj si▫āṇī.
Except for the One Name of the Lord, Waheguru Ji, you are clever in everything else.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਲੇਖੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਭਰਮਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਲੁਭਾਣੀ ॥੨॥
बिनवंत नानक लेखु लिखिआ भरमि मोहि लुभाणी ॥२॥
Binvanṯ Nānak lekẖ likẖi▫ā bẖaram mohi lubẖāṇī. ||2||
Prays Nanak, those who have such pre-ordained destiny are attracted to doubt and emotional attachment. ||2||
ਬੀਚੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ਕਰੇ ਅਕ੍ਰਿਤਘਣੁ ਵਿਛੁੜਿ ਪਇਆ ॥
बीचु न कोइ करे अक्रितघणु विछुड़ि पइआ ॥
Bīcẖ na ko▫e kare akriṯ▫gẖaṇ vicẖẖuṛ pa▫i▫ā.
No one advocates for the ungrateful person, who is separated from the Lord, Waheguru Ji.
ਆਏ ਖਰੇ ਕਠਿਨ ਜਮਕੰਕਰਿ ਪਕੜਿ ਲਇਆ ॥
आए खरे कठिन जमकंकरि पकड़ि लइआ ॥
Ā▫e kẖare kaṯẖin jamkankar pakaṛ la▫i▫ā.
The hard-hearted Messenger of Death comes and seizes him.
ਪਕੜੇ ਚਲਾਇਆ ਅਪਣਾ ਕਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਾ ਮੋਹਨੀ ਰਾਤਿਆ ॥
पकड़े चलाइआ अपणा कमाइआ महा मोहनी रातिआ ॥
Pakṛe cẖalā▫i▫ā apṇā kamā▫i▫ā mahā mohnī rāṯi▫ā.
He seizes him, and leads him away, to pay for his evil deeds; he was imbued with Maya, the great enticer.
ਗੁਨ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨ ਜਪਿਆ ਤਪਤ ਥੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਗਲਿ ਲਾਤਿਆ ॥
गुन गोविंद गुरमुखि न जपिआ तपत थम्ह गलि लातिआ ॥
Gun govinḏ gurmukẖ na japi▫ā ṯapaṯ thamĥ gal lāṯi▫ā.
He was not Gurmukh - he did not chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord, Waheguru Ji of the Universe; and now, the hot irons are put to his chest.
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਮੂਠਾ ਖੋਇ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਪਛੁਤਾਪਿਆ ॥
काम क्रोधि अहंकारि मूठा खोइ गिआनु पछुतापिआ ॥
Kām kroḏẖ ahaʼnkār mūṯẖā kẖo▫e gi▫ān pacẖẖuṯāpi▫ā.
He is ruined by sexual desire, anger and egotism; deprived of spiritual wisdom, he comes to regret.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਜੋਗਿ ਭੂਲਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪੁ ਰਸਨ ਨ ਜਾਪਿਆ ॥੩॥
बिनवंत नानक संजोगि भूला हरि जापु रसन न जापिआ ॥३॥
Binvanṯ Nānak sanjog bẖūlā har jāp rasan na jāpi▫ā. ||3||
Prays Nanak, by his cursed destiny he has gone astray; with his tongue, he does not chant the Name of the Lord, Waheguru Ji. ||3||
ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਕੋ ਨਾਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
तुझ बिनु को नाही प्रभ राखनहारा राम ॥
Ŧujẖ bin ko nāhī parabẖ rākẖanhārā rām.
Without You, God, Waheguru Ji, no one is our savior.
ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰਣ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਤੁਮਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
पतित उधारण हरि बिरदु तुमारा राम ॥
Paṯiṯ uḏẖāraṇ har biraḏ ṯumārā rām.
It is Your Nature, Lord, Waheguru Ji, to save the sinners.
ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰਨ ਸਰਨਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
पतित उधारन सरनि सुआमी क्रिपा निधि दइआला ॥
Paṯiṯ uḏẖāran saran su▫āmī kirpā niḏẖ ḏa▫i▫ālā.
O Savior of sinners, I have entered Your Sanctuary, O Lord, Waheguru Ji and Master, Compassionate Ocean of Mercy.
ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਤੇ ਉਧਰੁ ਕਰਤੇ ਸਗਲ ਘਟ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਾ ॥
अंध कूप ते उधरु करते सगल घट प्रतिपाला ॥
Anḏẖ kūp ṯe uḏẖar karṯe sagal gẖat parṯipālā.
Please, rescue me from the deep, dark pit, O Creator, Cherisher of all hearts.
ਸਰਨਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਟਿ ਮਹਾ ਬੇੜੀ ਇਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥
सरनि तेरी कटि महा बेड़ी इकु नामु देहि अधारा ॥
Saran ṯerī kat mahā beṛī ik nām ḏėh aḏẖārā.
I seek Your Sanctuary; please, cut away these heavy bonds, and give me the Support of the One Name.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰ ਦੇਇ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਰਾ ॥੪॥
बिनवंत नानक कर देइ राखहु गोबिंद दीन दइआरा ॥४॥
Binvanṯ Nānak kar ḏe▫e rākẖo gobinḏ ḏīn ḏa▫i▫ārā. ||4||
Prays Nanak, please, give me Your Hand and save me, O Lord, Waheguru Ji of the Universe, Merciful to the meek. ||4||
ਸੋ ਦਿਨੁ ਸਫਲੁ ਗਣਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥
सो दिनु सफलु गणिआ हरि प्रभू मिलाइआ राम ॥
So ḏin safal gaṇi▫ā har parabẖū milā▫i▫ā rām.
That day is judged to be fruitful, when I merged with my Lord, Waheguru Ji.
ਸਭਿ ਸੁਖ ਪਰਗਟਿਆ ਦੁਖ ਦੂਰਿ ਪਰਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥
सभि सुख परगटिआ दुख दूरि पराइआ राम ॥
Sabẖ sukẖ pargati▫ā ḏukẖ ḏūr parā▫i▫ā rām.
Total happiness was revealed, and pain was taken far away.
ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜ ਅਨਦ ਬਿਨੋਦ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਗੁਨ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਨਿਤ ਗਾਈਐ ॥
सुख सहज अनद बिनोद सद ही गुन गुपाल नित गाईऐ ॥
Sukẖ sahj anaḏ binoḏ saḏ hī gun gupāl niṯ gā▫ī▫ai.
Peace, tranquility, joy and eternal happiness come from constantly singing the Glorious Praises of the Sustainer of the World.
ਭਜੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੇ ਮਿਲੇ ਰੰਗੇ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਧਾਈਐ ॥
भजु साधसंगे मिले रंगे बहुड़ि जोनि न धाईऐ ॥
Bẖaj sāḏẖsange mile range bahuṛ jon na ḏẖā▫ī▫ai.
Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I lovingly remember the Lord, Waheguru Ji; I shall not wander again in reincarnation.
ਗਹਿ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਏ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ਆਦਿ ਅੰਕੁਰੁ ਆਇਆ ॥
गहि कंठि लाए सहजि सुभाए आदि अंकुरु आइआ ॥
Gėh kanṯẖ lā▫e sahj subẖā▫e āḏ ankur ā▫i▫ā.
He has naturally hugged me close in His Loving Embrace, and the seed of my primal destiny has sprouted.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਕਤਹੂ ਨ ਜਾਇਆ ॥੫॥੪॥੭॥
बिनवंत नानक आपि मिलिआ बहुड़ि कतहू न जाइआ ॥५॥४॥७॥
Binvanṯ Nānak āp mili▫ā bahuṛ kaṯhū na jā▫i▫ā. ||5||4||7||
Prays Nanak, He Himself has met me, and He shall never again leave me. ||5||4||7||
ਬਿਹਾਗੜਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਛੰਤ ॥ ਅਨ ਕਾਏ ਰਾਤੜਿਆ ਵਾਟ ਦੁਹੇਲੀ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾਵਦਿਆ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਬੇਲੀ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਕੋਏ ਨ ਬੇਲੀ ਹੋਇ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ ਪਛੋਤਾਵਹੇ ॥ ਗੁਨ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਨ ਜਪਹਿ ਰਸਨਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਕਦਹੁ ਸੇ ਦਿਹ ਆਵਹੇ ॥ ਤਰਵਰ ਵਿਛੁੰਨੇ ਨਹ ਪਾਤ ਜੁੜਤੇ ਜਮ ਮਗਿ ਗਉਨੁ ਇਕੇਲੀ ॥ ਬਿਨਵੰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਫਿਰਤ ਦੁਹੇਲੀ ॥੧॥
ਬਿਹਾਗੜਾ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਛੰਤ। ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਹੋਰਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈਂ? ਬਿਖੜਾ ਹੈ ਤੇਰਾ ਮਾਰਗ। ਹੇ ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਿਆ, ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਯਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ। ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਹਾਇਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਣਾ। ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅਮਲਾਂ ਤੇ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹੀ ਪਸਚਾਤਾਪ ਕਰੇਗਾ। ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਦੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ। ਇਹ ਦਿਨ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਕਦੋ ਆਉਣਗੇ? ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਬ੍ਰਿਛ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਿਛੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਪੱਤਾ, ਮੁੜ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੁੜਦਾ। ਕੱਲਮਕੱਲਾ ਇਹ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਨਾਨਕ ਅਰਜ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਆਤਮਾ, ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹੀ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਅੰਦਰ ਭਟਕਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਕ = {अनक, अणक} ਤੁੱਛ, ਬਹੁਤ ਨਿੱਕੀ। ਅਨਕਾਏ = ਤੁੱਛ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ। ਰਾਤੜਿਆ = ਹੇ ਰੱਤੇ ਹੋਏ! ਵਾਟ = (ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ) ਰਸਤਾ। ਦੁਹੇਲੀ = ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਭਰੀ। ਕਮਾਵਦਿਆ = ਹੇ ਕਮਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ! ਬੇਲੀ = ਸਾਥੀ। ਪਛੋਤਾਵਹੇ = ਪਛੋਤਾਵਹਿ, ਤੂੰ ਪਛੁਤਾਂਦਾ ਰਹੇਂਗਾ। ਨ ਜਪਹਿ = ਤੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਪਦਾ। ਰਸਨਾ = ਜੀਭ (ਨਾਲ)। ਸੇ ਦਿਹ = ਇਹ ਦਿਨ (ਬਹੁ-ਵਚਨ)। ਆਵਹੇ = ਆਵਹਿ, ਆਵਣਗੇ। ਪਾਤ = ਪੱਤਰ। ਤਰਵਰ = ਰੁੱਖ। ਮਗਿ = ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ। ਗਉਨੁ = ਗਮਨ, ਤੋਰ।੧।
ਹੇ ਤੁੱਛ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ (ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਵਿਚ ਰੱਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ! (ਇਸ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਤੇਰਾ ਜੀਵਨ-ਪੰਧ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਦਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਤੇਰਾ (ਸਦਾ ਦਾ) ਸਾਥੀ ਨਹੀਂ। (ਕੀਤੇ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਭਾਈਵਾਲ ਬਣਨ ਲਈ) ਤੇਰਾ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਸਾਥੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣੇਗਾ, ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਹੱਥ ਮਲਦਾ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਏਂਗਾ। ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਪਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਪਦਾ, ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਇਹ ਦਿਨ ਫਿਰ ਕਦੇ ਵਾਪਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਣਗੇ (ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਰੁੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਪੱਤਰ (ਮੁੜ ਰੁੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਨਹੀਂ ਜੁੜ ਸਕਦੇ। (ਕੀਤੇ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ) ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਇਕੱਲੀ ਹੀ ਤੁਰੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ-ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਸਦਾ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਘਿਰੀ ਹੋਈ ਭਟਕਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।੧।
ਤੂੰ ਵਲਵੰਚ ਲੂਕਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਸਭ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਾਣੀ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਲੇਖਾ ਧਰਮ ਭਇਆ ਤਿਲ ਪੀੜੇ ਘਾਣੀ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਕਿਰਤ ਕਮਾਣੇ ਦੁਖ ਸਹੁ ਪਰਾਣੀ ਅਨਿਕ ਜੋਨਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਾਇਆ ॥ ਮਹਾ ਮੋਹਨੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਰਤਨ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥ ਇਕਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਆਨ ਕਾਜ ਸਿਆਣੀ ॥ ਬਿਨਵੰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਲੇਖੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਭਰਮਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਲੁਭਾਣੀ ॥੨॥
ਤੂੰ ਵਲਛਲ ਲੁਕ ਕੇ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਅੰਦਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਜਾਨਣਹਾਰ, ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸਾਰਾ ਕੁਝ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਦ ਧਰਮਰਾਜ ਨੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਕੀਤਾ, ਤਦ ਤੂੰ ਕੋਲੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਤਿਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਰਾਗੇ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੀੜਿਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਹੇ ਜੀਵ! ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਕਰਮ ਦੀ ਖਾਤਰ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਭੁਗਤਣੀ ਪਉਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਬਹੁਤੀਆਂ ਜੂਨੀਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਧਕਿਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਪਰਮ ਠਗਣੀ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਜ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨੁਖੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਹੀਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਵੰਞਾ ਲਵੇਗਾ। ਇਕ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ, ਤੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਚਤੁਰ ਹੈਂ। ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਭਾਵੀ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਿਖੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਲੰਪਟ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਵਲਵੰਚ = ਵਲ-ਛਲ। ਲੂਕਿ = ਲੁਕ ਕੇ। ਜਾਣੀ = ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ। ਤਿਲ ਘਾਣੀ = ਤਿਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਘਾਣੀ (ਵਾਂਗ)। ਪੀੜੇ = ਕੋਹਲੂ ਵਿਚ ਪੀੜੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਕਿਰਤ = ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ। ਕਮਾਣੇ = ਕਮਾਏ ਹੋਏ। ਪਰਾਣੀ = ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ! ਸੰਗਿ = ਨਾਲ। ਰਾਤਾ = ਮਸਤ। ਆਨ ਕਾਜ = ਹੋਰ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ। ਭਰਮਿ = ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ। ਮੋਹਿ = ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ। ਲੁਭਾਣੀ = ਫਸੀ ਹੋਈ।੨।
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ!) ਤੂੰ (ਲੋਕਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਲੁਕ ਲੁਕ ਕੇ ਵਲ-ਛਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਪਰ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਰਤੂਤ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਦੋਂ ਧਰਮਰਾਜ ਦਾ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ (ਮੰਦੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਇਉਂ) ਪੀੜੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤਿਲ (ਘਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ) ਪੀੜੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ! ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਮਾਏ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹਾਰ। (ਮੰਦ-ਕਰਮੀ-ਜੀਵ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਵਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਇਸ ਵੱਡੀ ਮੋਹ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਗਵਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ-(ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦੇ!) ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਗ਼ੈਰ ਤੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਆਣੀ (ਬਣੀ ਫਿਰਦੀ ਹੈਂ। ਤੇਰੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ ਹੀ) ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਤਾਹੀਏਂ ਤੂੰ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈਂ।੨।
ਬੀਚੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ਕਰੇ ਅਕ੍ਰਿਤਘਣੁ ਵਿਛੁੜਿ ਪਇਆ ॥ ਆਏ ਖਰੇ ਕਠਿਨ ਜਮਕੰਕਰਿ ਪਕੜਿ ਲਇਆ ॥ ਪਕੜੇ ਚਲਾਇਆ ਅਪਣਾ ਕਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਾ ਮੋਹਨੀ ਰਾਤਿਆ ॥ ਗੁਨ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨ ਜਪਿਆ ਤਪਤ ਥੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਗਲਿ ਲਾਤਿਆ ॥ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਮੂਠਾ ਖੋਇ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਪਛੁਤਾਪਿਆ ॥ ਬਿਨਵੰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਜੋਗਿ ਭੂਲਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪੁ ਰਸਨ ਨ ਜਾਪਿਆ ॥੩॥
ਨਾਂ-ਸ਼ੁਕਰਾ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲੋ ਵੱਖਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਵਿਚੋਲਗੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ। ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਪਰਮ ਕਠੋਰ ਫਰੇਸ਼ਤੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਊਸ ਨੂੰ ਫੜ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਅਮਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਖਾਤਿਰ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਗੇ ਲਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਪਰਮ ਠਗਣੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਤਾਬੇ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਛਾਤੀ ਤੱਤਿਆਂ ਥਮਲਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਲਾਈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਭੋਗ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਅਤੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਰਬਾਦ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬੋਧ ਤੋਂ ਸਖਣਾ ਹੋ ਉਹ ਪਸਚਾਤਾਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਮੰਦ ਭਾਵੀ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਹ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਰਾਮ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ।
ਬੀਚੁ = ਵਿਚੋਲਾ-ਪਨ। ਅਕ੍ਰਿਤਘਣੁ = {कृतघ्न} ਕੀਤੀ ਭਲਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਹ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ, ਨਾ-ਸ਼ੁਕਰਾ। ਖਰੇ = ਬਹੁਤ। ਕਠਿਨ = ਨਿਰਦਈ। ਜਮ ਕੰਕਰਿ = ਜਮ-ਕੰਕਰ ਨੇ; ਜਮਦੂਤ ਨੇ {ਇਕ-ਵਚਨ}। ਚਲਾਇਆ = ਅੱਗੇ ਲਾ ਲਿਆ। ਰਾਤਿਆ = ਰੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ, ਮਸਤ। ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ = ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ। ਗਲਿ = ਗਲ ਨਾਲ। ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ = ਕਾਮਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ, ਕਾਮ ਵਿਚ, ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਵਿਚ। ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ = ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ। ਮੂਠਾ = ਠੱਗਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ। ਸੰਜੋਗਿ = (ਕਾਮ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸੰਜੋਗ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ। ਭੂਲਾ = ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਿਆ ਰਿਹਾ। ਰਸਨ = ਜੀਭ (ਨਾਲ)।੩।
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਉਪਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਹ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਮੁੜ ਮਿਲਾਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਕੋਈ (ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਵਿਚੋਲਾ-ਪਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ। (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਬੜਾ ਨਿਰਦਈ ਜਮਦੂਤ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆ ਫੜਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਜਮਦੂਤ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਫੜ ਕੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਡਾਢੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਕਦੇ ਯਾਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੜਨ ਵਿਚ ਇਉਂ ਬੀਤਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਸੜਦੇ-ਬਲਦੇ ਥੰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਕਾਮ ਵਿਚ, ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਵਿਚ, ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ (ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) ਆਪਣਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਲੁਟਾ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਗਵਾ ਕੇ (ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਹੱਥ ਮਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ-ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਜੋਗ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ (ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਦੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਪਦਾ {ਨੋਟ: ਭੂਤ ਕਾਲ ਨੂੰ ਵਰਤਮਾਨ ਕਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਅਰਥਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ}।੩।
ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਕੋ ਨਾਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰਣ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਤੁਮਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰਨ ਸਰਨਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥ ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਤੇ ਉਧਰੁ ਕਰਤੇ ਸਗਲ ਘਟ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਾ ॥ ਸਰਨਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਟਿ ਮਹਾ ਬੇੜੀ ਇਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥ ਬਿਨਵੰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰ ਦੇਇ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਰਾ ॥੪॥
ਤੇਰੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪ੍ਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ! ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ। ਪਾਪੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਾਰਨਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਿਤ-ਕ੍ਰਮ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ! ਹੇ ਪਾਪੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਅਤੇ ਰਹਿਮਤ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ, ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਮਾਲਕ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਪਨਾਹ ਲਈ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦਿਲਾਂ, ਦੇ ਪਾਲਣ-ਪੋਸਣਹਾਰ, ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਖੂਹ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਕੱਢ ਲੈ। ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸ਼ਰਣਾਗਤ ਸੰਭਾਲੀ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਭਾਰੀਆਂ ਜ਼ੰਜੀਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਢ ਸੁਟ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੇਵਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਖਸ਼। ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਆਲਮ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਅਤੇ ਮਸਕੀਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ! ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਦੇ, ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬਚਾ ਲੈ।
ਪਤਿਤ = ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਡਿੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ। ਬਿਰਦੁ = ਮੁੱਢ-ਕਦੀਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ। ਉਧਾਰਣ = (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਡੁਬਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਣਾ। ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨਿਧਿ = ਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ। ਦਇਆਲਾ = ਹੇ ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਘਰ! ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ = ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਖੂਹ। ਤੇ = ਤੋਂ। ਉਧਰੁ = (ਬਾਹਰ) ਕੱਢ ਲੈ। ਕਰਤੇ = ਹੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ! ਅਧਾਰਾ = ਆਸਰਾ। ਕਰ = ਹੱਥ {ਬਹੁ-ਵਚਨ}। ਦੇਇ = ਦੇ ਕੇ। ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਰਾ = ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ!।੪।
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਪਸ਼ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਡਿੱਗੇ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬਣੋਂ) ਬਚਾਣਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਮੁੱਢ-ਕਦੀਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਡਿੱਗੇ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਡੁੱਬਣੋਂ) ਬਚਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ! ਹੇ ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਘਰ! ਹੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ! ਹੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਖੂਹ (ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬਣ) ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਲੈ। ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ-ਹੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ! ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ; ਮੇਰੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ) ਕਰੜੀ ਬੇੜੀ ਕੱਟ ਦੇ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ-ਆਸਰਾ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼, ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬਣੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈ।੪।
ਸੋ ਦਿਨੁ ਸਫਲੁ ਗਣਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਸਭਿ ਸੁਖ ਪਰਗਟਿਆ ਦੁਖ ਦੂਰਿ ਪਰਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜ ਅਨਦ ਬਿਨੋਦ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਗੁਨ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਨਿਤ ਗਾਈਐ ॥ ਭਜੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੇ ਮਿਲੇ ਰੰਗੇ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਧਾਈਐ ॥ ਗਹਿ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਏ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ਆਦਿ ਅੰਕੁਰੁ ਆਇਆ ॥ ਬਿਨਵੰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਕਤਹੂ ਨ ਜਾਇਆ ॥੫॥੪॥੭॥
ਫਲਦਾਇਕ ਗਿਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਦਿਹਾੜਾ ਜਦ ਮੈਂ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਈ। ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਖੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਪਰਕਾਸ਼ ਹੋ ਆਈਆਂ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਸੀਬਤ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲੋ ਬੜੀ ਦੁਰੇਡੇ ਚਲੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਪਾਲਕ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਆਰਾਮ, ਚੈਨ, ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨਤਾ ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਸਤਿ ਸੰਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮੈਂ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਜੂਨੀਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਟਕਾਂਗਾ। ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਸੁਭਾਵਕ ਹੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਛਾਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਲਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਪੂਰਬਲੀ ਪਰਾਲਬਧ ਦਾ ਬੀਜ ਪੁੰਗਰ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਕਦਾਚਿੱਤ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲੋ ਪਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ।
ਸਫਲੁ = ਕਾਮਯਾਬ, ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ। ਗਣਿਆ = ਸਮਝਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਭਿ = ਸਾਰੇ। ਦੂਰਿ ਪਰਾਇਆ = ਦੂਰ ਜਾ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਸਹਜ = ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ। ਬਿਨੋਦ = ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ। ਗਾਈਐ = ਰਲ, ਰਲ ਕੇ ਗਾਵੀਏ। ਭਜੁ = ਭਜਨ ਕਰ, ਯਾਦ ਕਰ। ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗੇ = ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ। ਮਿਲੇ = ਮਿਲਿ, ਮਿਲ ਕੇ। ਰੰਗੇ = ਰੰਗਿ, ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ। ਬਹੁੜਿ = ਮੁੜ, ਫਿਰ। ਗਹਿ = ਫੜ ਕੇ। ਕੰਠਿ = ਗਲ ਨਾਲ। ਸਹਜਿ = ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ। ਸੁਭਾਏ = ਸੁਭਾਇ, ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ। ਆਦਿ = ਮੁੱਢਲਾ। ਅੰਕੁਰੁ = ਅੰਗੂਰ। ਕਤਹੂ = ਕਿਤੇ ਭੀ।੫।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ ਦਿਨ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਮਝਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਹਰਿ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ) ਮਿਲਾਇਆ (ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ)। (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ, ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਜਾ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਓ, ਜਗਤ-ਪਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਨਿੱਤ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹੀਏ (ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੇ ਸੁਖ-ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਬਣੀਆਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ (ਭਜਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਈਦਾ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਬਾਹੋਂ) ਫੜ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ (ਲੀਨ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ) ਮੁੱਢਲਾ ਅੰਗੂਰ ਪੁੰਗਰ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ-(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਆ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਫਿਰ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦਰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ) ਹੋਰ ਕਿਤੇ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਟਕੀਦਾ।੫।੪।੭।
